I need to make a clarification to the Misconception given by air filled balloon tires making the tractor light enough to float. A battleship floats too, but you wouldn't want to drop it on your field. It's not about the AIR making it lighter as much as the total surface AREA in contact with the ground. Whereas a battleship has a pointed keel the tires are relatively flat. A barge would be a better representation. It's the more square inches in contact to distribute the load than it is the overall weight. The air just inflates those tires to make them bigger, not lighter so there are more square inches to distribute the load and thus less pressure on the soil. These are fun videos, keep up the good work.
@twokssei13 жыл бұрын
Additionally, the materials make a huge difference as well as the size. I suspect the materials in the construction of said tires are lighter/stronger/tougher compared to the heavier brethren of similar sized tires. I'd be interested to know! (having worked on a farm and having had to move tractor tires - you don't just toss them like you would a car tire - lol ) Metal world comparison: Titanium vs Steel -- and since we're using using boat analogies... I figure a barge made from Titanium, would provide WAY more potential payload for its given displacement... Though, how Much titanium would be needed for just ONE 'regular' barge!!?? - not to mention the COST - heh - but as with anything, if theres a market for it... (*although - I suspect a light weight tractor tire has a more viable market than a titanium hulled barge)
@bigredc2222 жыл бұрын
I agree with what you're saying, but battleships, aircraft carriers, pretty much all giant ships do have flat bottoms.

@@SuburbanFarmer96 What’s the point of that? “Let’s put on the giant inflatable tires and drive into the lake to see if our tractor is in balance!” The video says nothing about that. You can also just drive onto some heavy duty scales to check your weight distribution if you think that matters.
@SuburbanFarmer963 жыл бұрын
@@Engineer9736 when you have wider tires it helps spread out the overall weight being put on those tires so get less ground compaction not about the tractor itself being in balance...

an absolutely useless piece of equipment in any respectable salvage yard... in our yard we have a machine (or crusher as it is called) that we toss the cars/trucks or whatever that turns them into cute little cubes in about 2 minutes. It does this more than once at a time as well. Engines are taken more care of since we do sell cores. But if non-salvageable it's just a quick 3-4 minute air drill away from being thrown into our aluminum pile, or if all aluminum just toss the whole thing. Our pincer machine is about 4 times bigger and mainly used for tearing apart large silos or pinching things out of very large equipment. It's kind of humorous to see an excavator cannibalize another excavator...
