I feel like Spooky Sextravaganza Spectacular is an overlooked album. Back when the collection first released both fans and reviewers were over the moon with how well Lordi could pull off a disco album like Superflytrap, how brilliantly they were able to write songs in the vein of Desmond Child with Humanimals, and how heavy they got in Abracadaver, but very few seemed to even note that this album was even there. There's just so much to love here. Demon Supreme, Lizzard of Oz, Killusion, Goliath, Drekavac, Shake the Baby Silent of course, and let's not forget the best of the bunch: Terror Extra-Terrestrial, with its ridiculously catchy chorus. It may not be my favorite album from the collection, as that honor belongs to Humanimals, but it's certainly the one I listen to the most, and ranks very high when it comes to Lordi's overall discography.

I listen to the albums as they're released digitally so I can't judge Masterbeast or Skelectric Dinosaur yet but Sextravaganza is easily my favorite out of the bunch so far and also one of my top 3 Lordi albums of all time. It's just that good!

In my review it is clear that SSS (or Spooky (more short than full name) is my favorite album
@genericeurasianwarlord95422 жыл бұрын
The sheer amount of care and thought they put into it, how each track reflects a certain style within the industrial spectrum. I loved the industrial influences in their first three albums, really hope they come back to it in future albums.

This sound suits Lordi so well! Would love more of this. Industrial heavy riffs. They've done it all! Just need a covers album now.. Imagine how cool an album of covers would be, Alice Coopers Feed My Frankenstein, Rob Zombie Living Dead Girl, Motorhead Hellraiser etc Would love to hear Lordi cover Children of Bodom In Your Face!

SSS was trury the positive surprise from lordiversity for me. I allready knew that Abusement and Humanimals will be my favourites and they are, but this is close 3rd. Never been fan of industrial, but this album sound so great. Demon supreme is maybe my favourite track, but I really like the style of Killusion and Terror-extra terrestrial. Re-animate sounds very lot of Bend over and pray the lord stuff, Drekavac would be my choice for album opening track as it hits shockingly hard. Only thing I would like hear more is machine made/keyboard solos, only shake the baby silent and some get heavy songs have those.

Thanks to ZealSeraph for tips! Really liked nerdy discoalbum too. I think Lordi had a few ideas in store that could't be expressed in other way! But it came to mind he really could offer songs to Eurovision competators! Not a joke!
@ZealSeraph Жыл бұрын
He certainly could. And he actually was going to. Back when Hanna Pakarinen represented Finland, Mr. Lordi wrote a song he was planning to offer her for her entry, but didn't get around to sending it in time. Instead of letting that song go to waste, he reworked it and released it on the album Deadache. That song is Evilyn.

Covid ruined their tour for the last album, so Mr. Lordi used his time on what he loves the most: creating new songs. He wanted to further explore the core idea of the last album, what Lordi would've sounded like if they had been around ever since the early 70's. The result is Lordiversity, a collection of seven new studio albums, all written and recorded in different styles and using methods they would've been recorded with throughout 70's, 80's and 90's. It took them 3 months to write everything, and 9 more to practice and record the albums. And the craziest part is, they wanted to do ten albums, and they even managed to write enough material for ten, but the record label gave permission to "only" seven, meaning there's still about 30 leftover songs that we haven't heard from this project.

This song is part of a collection of 7 albums that was released last year, every album emulating the sound and genres of a specific year from the early 70s to the late 90s. This particular song is from the last album of that collection and is supposed to sound like 90s industrial metal.

I don't know... I really liked the first 2-3 albums of Lordi, and then the rest just... seems sort of bland to me. Like, the elements are there, but the whole just lacks that certain something to me. That, plus a lot of sort of sexy sort of jokes and jargon that are neither particularly attractive nor particularly funny... still a slightly disappointed meh from me, I'm afraid.

I love this band, but this is for me the "worst" Lordi album which was ever released. Because it isn't their style (only one demo album has some licks of industrial metal), and I don't like this genre so much... But If I should make a Best Of Lordi playlist, "Killusion" and "Terror Extra-Terrestrial" will be there! :)
@theindigoboogeyman2432 жыл бұрын
Mr. Lordi said in an interview a couple months ago that he didn't have to absorb other people's music as inspiration for one of the albums, he just had to remember what some of the old Lordi demos sounded like and he went with that.
@lordcevap962 жыл бұрын
Actually their very first album, "Bend over and pray the Lord" was very similar with this one. I personally dig the little machine sounding details in between the songs, and the whole style in general, to me it suits them perfectly 🤟🏻
@SimonBucherHistory2 жыл бұрын
I think this is one of the most Lordi sounding albums ever. It's pretty much just a throwback to their first albums from the 90s so this is exactly the type of sound and genre they originated from!
