Transcript:
Samus Aran's story begins on K-2L, a colony housing the precious crystal, Afloraltite. Ridley and the Space Pirates raid the colony for Afloraltite, destroying everything in the process. Samus' father, Rodney, decides that the only sensible thing to do is to blow up the ship carrying all the Afloraltite, along with himself. Ridley encounters a young Samus, and just before he kills her, Samus' mother, sacrifices herself to save her.
The Chozo, an race of alien birds, discover the orphaned Samus and take her to Zebes to raise her because having alien birds for parents isn't creepy or traumatic at all. They infuse her with Chozo DNA and gift her with the Power Suit to help her endure Zebes conditions.
The Chozo elders meet to discuss the threat of X-Parasites, an organism that can infect a host, replicate its DNA, and kill the host in the process. The Chozos fear that if revealed to the galaxy, X-Parasites might be abused for its power. To combat X-Parasites, they engineered the Metroid, a bioweapon meant to prey on X-Parasites because fighting a deadly parasite with another deadly parasite was the only solution they could come up with.
Ridley and his Space Pirates raid Zebes for Chozo tech and their Metroid. In the process, the Chozo-built supercomputer, Mother Brain, decides she is way too smart for her creators and joins Ridley to replace the obsolete Chozo race with Space Pirates.
But Samus escapes Zebes and so begins Metroid!

So Ridley kills Samus' human family, then Ridley and Mother Brain kill Samus' Chozo family, then Samus adopts the last Metroid, which dies protecting Samus from Mother Brain, then Samus' crush and captain sacrifices himself to kill a revived Mother Brain, who revived Ridley and escaped, and THEN the AI based off of Samus' crush/ex-commander sacrifices itself to kill a new threat, introduced by the Space Pirates led by Mother Brain and Ridley. Goddamn Samus' life sucks.

+HP Marratick I don't think the feds will hate her that much for that since...they know they NEED Samus. She's probably the most respected bounty hunter in the galaxy and has saved their ass in more than one ocassion. If anything they're gonna ban off the solar system of their main base but I doubt they're gonna go chase her and kill her or anything like that. Imagine trying that, the space pirates do another bad thing so they're like "Um hey Samus can you uh help us again??". Awkwaaard!

Adding more details: -The Metroids are not parasites, they're predators, in Chozo language Metroid means "Ultimate Warrior". -The Chozo gave a directive to Mother Brain and that was to bring order and balance to the galaxy, and Mother Brain thought that the Space Pirates were best suited for that task, because they're actually really intelligent, they're evil, because they use barbaric and cruel methods. -The Metroids became highly dangerous, because they started to evolve. In Samus Returns (a remake for the second Metroid game) it is implied that the Chozo did not made the Metroids with those capabilities, they did it on they're own, and since they became a problem too, the Chozo decided to seal them underground. Another thing happened that made them leave the planet without solving completely the Metroid problem, but that would spoil too much, so I'll leave it here.

To be fair to the Chozo: Literally the only weakness the X had were Metroids. Metroids, however, were far easier to manage, as they were just weak to cold, and the Chozo did invent the Ice Beam. Therefore, they could manage the Metroids while they deal with the X. Only problem is that they didn’t expect the Metroids to mutate and evolve, and become way more dangerous.

Plot reminds me off Halo in a way. The Chozo(Forerunners) create the Metroid(Halos) to destroy the X Parasite(Flood). The Space Pirates(The Covenant) use the Metroid(Halos) as weapons. It's your job as Samus(Master Chief, also an orphan with power armor) to destroy the Metroid(Halo) and stop the Space Pirates(Covenant). And in both games they always have you escaping places before they blow up.

@@LuminousLead Yes, but for all we know, the Chozo might have been very long lived and so Samus with their DNA might also be aging slower than a normal Human. Or it's future space and Humans age slowly/have fantastic medicine to keep them young. Or it's like Halo where a lot of people travel in Cryo Sleep so their biological age is far younger than their chronological age.

@@SubduedRadical I was under the impression that they were indeed long lived. Was it in the manga they released? I can't remember. Either way Samus doesn't look too old and Other M (I feel sad that I'm calling back to that game) goes out of its way to portray Samus as pretty young. I don't think there's much time to create perfectly tuned bioweapons. It feels like that's something they did prior to K2L, or that it was at least ongoing before Samus was adopted.

Dread spoilers: After taking in Samus, the chozo tribes gathered and donated their strongest dna to Samus in order to make her the ultimate warrior or "Metroid" in chozo terms. Apparently these 2 donors were grey voice of the Toha tribe, and Raven beak of the mawkin/warrior faction. Basically unlike some people are saying, Raven beak calls Samus "daughter" by extension and reveals he plans to use her superior dna, infused with Metroid, to make the most powerful army the galaxy has seen. Honestly awesome plot that's finally closed, love Dread man.

It makes sense. The Chozo seem to have a habit of creating proxies to deal with problems. Samus was intended as the cure to both metroid and x, one that was also sentient and capable of making her own choices. Of course she came to mean more than just a weapon to them, but their hope for the future.

@@drpottymouth They were a more of a re-emerged threat. When the Metroids were around, the X were basically wiped out and gone, the survivors being trapped or hibernating in crystals. It’s only after the Metroids are wiped out that the X come back.

@@nevermore7285 Samus has Thoha DNA, and Mawkin DNA, in her. We *know* from the manga (which is canon, pieces of it can be seen in Zero Mission) that Old Bird gave her his DNA. Raven Beak is the Mawkin donor. Thus, Old Bird is Thoha. On top of this, there's a part of the manga where the Chozo raising Samus talk about the need to make a predator for the X...you know, what the Thoha did. I wouldn't discount the possibility of additional tribes of Chozo - the people from Prime 2 might be descendants of or visited by such a tribe. But those tribes wouldn't have any "blood relation" to Samus like the Thoha and Mawkin do.

For one thing, I don't remember Samus' mom sacrificing herself to save her from Ridley, but rather Ridley having pity on Samus (I read the E-manga). Even before Dread came out and opened a whole new can of worms, this was already inaccurate... the Metroids were born on SR388, Ridley's space pirates didn't attack Zebes for it's Metroid, as there weren't any on Zebes until AFTER Ridley had already taken over. The Metroid's were discovered by the Galactic Federation Space Research Vessel Marina on SR388 after the Chozo populations on Zebes AND SR388 had already been been mostly wiped out.

On the topic of when he made comments on the decision to make it so that Samus was raised by the Chozo and when the Chozo made the Metroids... Do you have any other options for Samus when her home world was destroyed? And how about when the Chozo used a parasite to kill the X Parasites? What's the better choice in each of those scenarios? The Chozo were incredibly intelligent, and the fact that they literally gave birth to a whole new race (though was destroyed by their adopted human child) and allowed Samus to get revenge for her family's demise. Had she not gone with the Chozo, she would have died as well. It's better to just accept that they did what they could at the time, as we humans might do in an act of desperation.

So we are left to assume that the Chozo had some idea to control them, but Mother Brain screwed it all up so she could control them herself instead.

Samus was raised as a means to destroy both the X-parasites and the metroid. This is just my own theory, but it's possible Ridley was also created by the Chozo for this purpose but he began to lust for chaos and destruction. This would make Ridley somewhat of a prototype of Samus.

EpicFailureFive Ridley is just an asshole is all. If I remember right, his race isn't as war happy as he is. Samus wasn't raised for any specific purpose though. The Chozo were visiting her home colony when Ridley attacked and killed her parents (in front of her) and the Chozo took her in and raised her as one of her own. Nothing sinister going on behind the scenes on their raising her.

The Space Pirates have a ton of salvaged technology from (presumably the Galactic Federation) that they supposedly changed to suit themselves. After Ridley died by Phazon explosion, they most likely (with great difficulty) found and rebuilt him (How they rebuilt him from goop is beyond me, but hey! It's the future) and for some reason decided to get rid of all the previous upgrades and start from scratch.

I'm pretty certain that the Chozo created the Metroids long before Samus was born. By the time that Earth mastered interstellar spaceflight the X-parasites had already been almost wiped out from the universe.

I looked up info on the manga just recently, and it was made to tie-in with the release of Zero Mission. It was even advised by Yoshio Sakamoto, the director of Other M. But even then it doesn't help that the manga wasn't released overseas, and we're just supposed to accept that its kinda-sorta canon, but most have never read it so how would we know fact X, Y, etc. But regardless, there's a big split in the fandom regarding the manga being canon or not.

This. I don't remember the Chozo creating Metroids, Samus' childhood (beyond the fact that the space pirates orphaned her), or Samus being infused with Chozo DNA. I believe the last one was confused with Fusion, where Samus is infused with Metroid DNA. The Chozo just trained her and gave her the modified armor we know and love.

They did make a Manga that sets things straight. It goes Manga, then Prime series, followed by Metroid/ Metroid Zero Mission, then Super Metroid, Metroid Other M, then Metroid Fusion. Though some say it goes Metroid/ Zero Mission, then Prime series due to power ups and the characters you meet.
