I am enjoying the videos because I tend to do other things whilst I listen. You have really filled in the background & made the stories more understandable. So soon I will listen to the books from the Lord of the Rings & should enjoy them better now that I have all the background thanks to all that you have done over the past 6 or more years. So pat yourself on the back as you have done an excellent job!!

@David-qm2qj8 жыл бұрын
nicely done Im eager for the future lore videos. but there is one bummer for me after reading the books. It is so irritating that Gandalf, after just saving the world and caring so much for the hobbits, just deserts them albeit he knows that they will face more danger and that Saruman plans something, remaining an evil spirit in middle earth. He outright tells them that he doesnt care for their problems anymore and they should look for themself now. While the ruffians and saruman could have easily destroyed the shire and enslaved the hobbits. While Gandalf drinks tee in lindon. I just mean he loved the shire before the war and looses any interest in its protection afterwards. You dont stop cutting the lawn after 95% just finish it for crying out loud. ps: "turning the shire in an industrial power" ... more like they do everything to destroy what is green and lavish in the shire.
@karafprof70537 жыл бұрын
Well, Gandalf does care about the Shire more than any other place in Middle-Earth, at least as far as I can tell. He has great affection for Hobbits, because they are simple and not easily corrupted (in contrast to Elves, dwarves, humans). When he leaves Middle-Earth, he leaves because he is ordered to, by Eru (I guess, again). It was HE who made him come back, to defeat Sauron. That was his task, and he completed it! He knew that Saruman would be stopped by the good Hobbits, but even if he didn't, his work was done! Also, I don't really think he means what he says ''Alright, Ima go now, I don't give two flying shits about you, bye!''. He probably means that the problems they have to face from now on are nothing compared to Sauron, whom they have already defeated, so they will prevail!

The Ents don't actually break a dam in the battle of Isengard, like they do in the film. They in fact make a dam of their own to lead River Isen into Isengard to clear out any traps or escape routes that Saruman might have in store. Once they feel it's safe enough, they dismantle the dam and return the river back to its original course. There's also no indication that the "ruffians" would be Breelanders. Aside from the fact that men of Bree are largely peaceful and friendly with hobbits, they also got attacked in the same way that Shire did. Based on what Barliman Butterbur tells the hobbits, large numbers of men came from the south after they originally left; some who were just poor refugees, but also many who were rogues and brigands, and the Bree-folk drove them off with a great difficulty. It doesn't take much to put two and two together and see that these people are the same who then invaded Shire. There's no reason why many of them couldn't be Dunlanders, either, as the Dunlanders could have banished their own criminals and dissenters at the time, and they could also be fleeing after their defeat in Rohan, afraid of retribution in spite of the peace agreement imposed on them. And finally, several of them are described as having orcish blood, suggesting that they include remains of Saruman's Uruk-Hai army, as well.

So what did Imladris contribute to the final battles of the War of the Ring? It seems like they didn't get involved at all. I know that Elrohir and Elladan were with the Grey Company and Aragorn but did Elrond or any of his forces help?
8 жыл бұрын
No they did not. Although bare in mind that 'his forces', especially in Imladris, is nothing more than a mere personal bodyguard. Imladris is like a small manor house not a city. The Elf population there is likely less than a hundred. In fact, the Grey company, which is the majority of the Dunedain of the north, numbered something like 40 men. The elves have even less. :P
@TheJoezak8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response, I guess playing too much DaC has warped my impression of the 'forces' available to both factions! haha
@TheJoezak8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was kind of thinking the same, he could only get those Dunedain that were close enough to muster. Any idea how many elves live in the Grey Havens during the War of the Ring? Or do very few elves actually live there just to facilitate the journey west?

If you really think about it, Saruman had nowhere to go at all. Gondor and Rohan would have killed him, the Ents would have killed him, The Elves and Dwarves wouldn't want him among them, Any Orcs still alive as well as, Southernmen, and Easternlings would probably have blamed him for losing the war and killed him, and finally The Hobbits throw him out. Dude had no choice but to die.
@Lightice17 жыл бұрын
Saruman could have become anonymous quite easily if he wanted to. Hell, he did, becoming the bandit chief Sharky. It's not like they had photographs in Middle-Earth; few people knew what Saruman looked like, and he was quite apt at altering his appearance, in any case. As long as he stayed away from spiritually sensitive individuals, like the elves, he would have been just fine.

Any particular reason why Imladris is never attacked ? Just curious. Is it not important enough ?
@BernddasBrotB78 жыл бұрын
Imladris is rather out of the way, it would be a nightmare to bring an army to it and then sustain a siege. If it were attacked I imagine just about every ranger would be harassing the supply lines of an attacking army. Also it is a small settlement, not really hugely strategic.
@Wolfeson288 жыл бұрын
A combination of its strength and its location. It's too far west, and with too many things in the way, for Sauron's main forces to reach. The only evil forces that could potentially reach Imladris would be the orcs of the Misty Mountains, and they aren't strong enough to attack it on their own (particularly after the devastating losses they suffered earlier at the Battle of the Five Armies).

13:30 That's debateable, we don't know if the dwarves of the Red Mountains are attacked, or the Avari elves. It's also possible that there are kingdoms in the far East of Endor (for the benefit of the less lore-wise, Endor is the name of the planet, Middle Earth is just the area the books mainly cover) of men who don't follow the ways of darkness.
@MrWheelman828 жыл бұрын

Endor is the Quenyan form of Ennorath and it means Middle-earth. As Wheelman says, the planet is called Arda. Also whilst I wasn't clear enough I did mean every good nation that we are familiar with from the the core of middle-earth. I kinda thought that was implied.
