QUINLAN ROAD / LOREENA MCKENNITT: While we periodically reach out through social media, it’s something we do by default. In general, we do not endorse social media. Since 1998, the unregulated era of technology has all but decimated traditional media, which we feel is more accountable to a civil society. We’re also learning that digital technologies are responsible for 4% of greenhouse gas emissions, a figure expected to double by 2025. We therefore plan to continue advocating for a responsible and accountable media in whatever form that may take. In the meantime, we encourage you to stay in touch through the closest and most direct method possible, our email list. loreenamckenni...

@@TaraCicora Right? I'd love for an update! If they did follow through with their dream, after 7 - 8 years is generally when a residency is completed and they no longer need to tail a senior physician. But since they mentioned they were "studying" with no indication of what year they were in, hopefully if nothing changed, they were able to get a bachelors, masters and are in residency now.

This song is breathtaking to say the least, it's unfortunate that so many blow off her fabulous gift. Does anyone else think that she has a very old style grace and beauty, which is accentuated by the old fashioned dress she wears in this song?

Her clothing has nothing to do with it. Her beautiful voice is amazingly beautiful to me. Although I am still young enough to realize that I am not mature enough to appreciate all beauty. She may not be the most beautiful but she is especially amazing. I enjoy her art but some of it has depressed me but I am unsure if it is due to her or someone else.

I know absolutely nothing about music, but I would never have believed that a "call-and-response" between electric guitar and violin could be so entrancing. An extraordinary composition.

You know nothingness about music? By knowing the term 'call and response' you just displayed that you know something that most musician's I know wouldn't. If only every one were so modest. And yes, it's an amazing interplay. An amazing song.

Lyrics for anyone curious or wishing to sing-along: A farmer there lived in the north country A hey ho and me bonny-o And he had daughters one, two, three The swans swim so bonny-o These daughters they walked by the river's brim A hey ho and me bonny-o The eldest pushed the youngest in The swans swim so bonny-o Oh sister, oh sister, pray lend me your hand A hey ho and me bonny-o And I will give you house and land The swans swim so bonny-o I'll give you neither hand nor glove A hey ho and me bonny-o Unless you give me your own true love The swans swim so bonny-o Sometimes she sank, sometimes she swam A hey ho and me bonny-o Until she came to a miller's dam The swans swim so bonny-o The miller's daughter, dressed in red A hey ho and me bonny-o She went for some water to make her bread The swans swim so bonny-o Oh father, oh daddy, here swims a swan A hey ho and me bonny-o It's very like a gentle woman The swans swim so bonny-o They laid her on the bank to dry A hey ho and me bonny-o There came a harper passing by The swans swim so bonny-o He made harp pins of her fingers fair A hey ho and me bonny-o He made harp strings of her golden hair The swans swim so bonny-o He made a harp of her breast bone A hey ho and me bonny-o And straight it began to play alone The swans swim so bonny-o He brought it to her father's hall A hey ho and me bonny-o And there was the court assembled all The swans swim so bonny-o He laid the harp upon the stone A hey ho and me bonny-o And straight it began to play alone The swans swim so bonny-o There does sit my father, the King A hey ho and me bonny-o And yonder sits my mother the Queen The swans swim so bonny-o And there does sit my brother Hugh A hey ho and me bonny-o And by him William, sweet and true The swans swim so bonny-o And there does sit my false sister Anne A hey ho and me bonny-o Who drowned me for the sake of a man The swans swim so bonny-o

"And there doth sit my false sister Ann, who drowned me for the sake of a man. The swans swim so bonny, oh..." Is it just me or is there something chilling about Loreena's expression when she sings that part? Chilling or grimly amusing, maybe. She reveals her sister's treachery and then keeps singing about swans with an "I'm just sayin'" look on her face. Anyway, it's always been one of my favorite moments of this video.

@@julianlewis1792 Yes, I agree! The Cymbeline arrangement is sublime and her voice delicately floats above the underlying theme of the mystic of love from the cold rationality of Roman rule. Definitely alot to interpret, but Brilliantly done.

@AnonymousXIII Good point, this song is actually a mix of several versions of the theme for "Two Sisters". Wikipedia has an article called "The Twa Sisters" (medieval spelling) explaining both the bit about its origins and also has a paragraph about Loreena McKennitt's song being a pastiche of several traditional variants of the ballad.

in the song a line is "the miller's daughter dressed in red....". she's the one who finds the princess in the water ("oh father oh daddy, here swims a swan, it's very like a gentle woman"). and I think it's no coincidence that loreena mckennitt wears a red dress at this part...
