Lorenzo Monaco: el ilustre maestro de Fra angelico (The illustrious teacher of Fra Angelico)

A partir de 1404 su estilo se orientó hacia el gótico internacional , influido por las primeras obras de Ghiberti y las obras de Gherardo Starnina , quien regresó en esos años de España , donde había aprendido todas las innovaciones internacionales. Destaca de ese año la Piedad de la Galleria dell'Accademia , donde comienza a prevalecer una línea nerviosa y una cierta tensión emocional. En las numerosas láminas con fondo dorado creadas por él se evidencia un estilo caracterizado por figuras extremadamente alargadas, con las líneas sinuosas de los drapeados en forma de media luna, los contornos definidos, los colores brillantes y muy ricos (profusión de oro y lapislázuli), los gestos insinuados, el espacio casi eliminado.
