This song was written by Ron Miller and Ken Hirsch. He also wrote the Stevie Wonder hit "For Once in My Life " Ron Miller (R.I.P) heard me sing HIS song one evening in Las Vegas. I didn't know who he was until he introduced himself to me and said "Loretta, you just sang the definitive" version of MY song." I usually do a monologue of my life just before singing this song. This too will be part of my life's story. "I've Been To Georgia, and California.......Nice and Greece and Monte Carlo." Sometimes, this songs will get the best of me and sometimes.....BUT NOW. Hello #gomogo2000: I thank you for taking the time to watch and listen to my version of this classic song. My version comes from an experience of "Living." I was friends with the writer RON MILLER....he heard me sing HIS song one evening and introduced himself as having written the song. His words "You just sang the definitive version of "I've Never Been To Me." The monologue I did before the song spoke about an older lady that I took the time to listen to as she was singing in a bar "to no one who was listening"....she was "Incidental," you see. Life is DRAMA. This song is ABOUT LIFE...taking the bitter with the sweet....traveling from place to place, country to country to find one's self or to run away from one's self. The lyrics "But, I TOOK THIS LIFE".... my interpretation I chose taking the LIFE was of an unborn child...choosing MY CAREER over "A family." The subtle "Whoring" which we all have found ourselves doing to advance a career or to win someone's heart who is Un-deserving of our love. All of us at some point have done this or OR DOING this....they will take your SOUL if let them. I DIDN'T let them. So, my dear gomogo2000....if you prefer the "sing-song version and the "la de la da" approach which I'v heard from so many singers choose when singing this dynamic masterpiece of a song ...that is your taste and preference. Just for the record...when Ron Miller re-released this song with Charlene (His Muse) on a Stevie Wonder compilation, he TOOK the idea of my MONOLOGUE and tagged it onto the end of her version. It fell flat and usless. Nonetheless, Charlene enjoyed a resurgence of her career and Ron Miller and I were no longer friends, by then. May he rest in PEACE. Loretta Holloway
