My brother-in-law, sister, and their daughter and me went to see Loretta Lynn home place in the late 80s. Stopped by the old store and Herman was there. I talked to him and ask, can I get your autograph because you’re probably the closest I’ll ever get to Loretta Lynn. Lol

Back in the early 90s her daughter Casey was performing at my towns local fair and she was using her tour bus to help Casey out and her and Dooy was in the infield while the tractor pulls were running and me and a few others just set with them and treated them like if they where friends and not famous people, they appreciate us locals treating them like that, great memories. As a side note back in the mid 70s as a kid my uncle lived across from a small campground in Ohio and every weekend they had bluegrass music so we would listen and on a few occasions a red and white caddy would stop in from the show and he would set with us ,I did know until the early 80s who he was but it was Jerry Clower 😊😊 great people and down to earth.

My aunt from Indiana married my uncle who was from West Van Leer. Don Perkins. He was born in 1930 two years older than Loretta. He was an only child, joined the military then was part owner of a filling station in Elwood Indiana where he met my aunt. They married in 1955 and then moved to Mesa Arizona in 1961. His parents still lived in Van Leer till they passed away in the 1980’s. His father was a coal miner. He didn’t go back much and never talked about Kentucky much. He died in 2014 of Alzheimer’s at the age of 83. My aunt is still living and is 92. Still drives and is very independent in Chandler Arizona. I find this area fascinating but know nothing about it as my aunt knows very little about her husband’s time there and he never talked about it.

Loretta Lynn has or had a nice convenience store. On Hwy 167, going up to Batesville Arkansas, just as you turn on to Hwy-167 north.

@@Storyhunter520 When you stop at a Rest area, Travel center, ask for a map, and a coffee, the maps are the best, sometimes they have a travel catalog of all the towns.

They probably made a lot of money over the years. I'm surprised they didn't modernize the store. Maybe they drive late model cars.
