Hi Rick! You said just about everything I have been thinking about my lorex system. I bought mine thru Amazon with 6 cameras and I just added 2 more. So far I have caught 2 coyotes eating my neighbors cat (sad), a catalytic converter thief (driving a newer mercedes, believe it or not) and a drive by shooter from around the corner. Unfortunately because it was 1130 at night, all I could see of the shooters car was a red blur as he was flying past my house. When you have cameras the neighbors knock on the door asking if I saw anything. Then the police knocked on my door asking about the shooter. I also have ezviz wireless cameras as well as a wireless reolink that I mounted to a street sign hoping to catch license plates. The lorex system is the most reliable, the wireless systems are easier to place, but are prone to drop out or are late in activating. Anyone who would ask me what I would recommend, the lorex system would be my first response. Followed by, "get a doorbell camera." Most people don't look up at your cameras, but they all look down at the doorbell camera. Thanks for the video!

@@guadalupeceballos8176 You are welcome. Don't forget to purchase a doorbell camera. That camera will get a perfect picture of who is in front of your door and will get a picture of any package thieves. Burglars will also knock on your door to see if anyone is home and then break in thru the back of your house. A wired doorbell camera is always ON. A battery powered doorbell camera will take a second to turn on. By that time the thief has your package and you will only have a picture of the back of their head. Thanks!

@@QuincyKintay Hi. I use a Ezviz DB1 system. There are a dozen reviews of different models. Each will have their strengths and weaknesses. If your door is facing south, the camera could be blinded by the sun. If it is in a dark area and there is too much sun behind the person, you won't get a clear picture of the person. You can change the lenses on all these lorex / dahua / hik cameras and get any zoom you want. It's all based on field of view. The default lens on a bullet cam is like 2.8mm. Takes 10 minutes or less to replace it with a narrower field of view (closer zoon). Maybe a couple screws to undo, remove old lens -- usually threadlockered in -- screw in new lens while it's hooked up and make sure it's focused. Then reassemble. New lense will run you

I use mine to monitor lawn conditions while at work. I'm even thinking of buying a few more cameras just for that. Worked great also for catching a hit and run driver who hit a car parked in front of my home. I was able to use the camera footage....and audio....to trace where the driver went. The next day we found his car parked a few blocks down....got pictures of the his license, the damage on his car, and called the police who watched the footage and immediately investigated the person and cited him for hit and run. Without the footage we would have had no idea what car to look for.

This is a well made video by an excellent speaker. Rick does not bore and is refreshingly succinct in his dissertation. No dead air space or vanity; and no arrogance! Rick is straight to the point! I just had a six cam Lorex system professionally installed for $1400; system cost $400 at Costco. I am not at all pleased with it, but I have only had it a week and maybe I don’t understand how it works yet. Have not read instructions or called Lorex, but thought the installer would have been more helpful to teach me the ropes. I dislike the cams.there are lights only on some cams, but they are worthless anyway, and no voice. Cams are grainy. . Every cam must load Every time I want to see it. Videos are jerky. You could never make out detail. I really hate this system. It freezes up my phone at times- so if I saw someone in the yard I couldn’t call the cops anyway! Uggh!

I have the Lorex 400 series 16 ch cameras with 12 cameras installed. 8 of the cameras are Lorex dome PTZ cameras, 3 Lorex bullet cameras and one Dahua fisheye ONVIF protocol rated camera. I have my NVR since 2020 and gradually upgraded cameras through 2022. I am overall pleased with the purchase though not without its challenges. 1) the non-Lorex Onvif fish eye camera required configuration to work with Lorex NVR. Yes, it is doable and non Lorex cameras as long as ONVIF compliant works with the NVR. However for any power interruptions, it kicks it offline though it is a quick switching back to Camera to ONVIF setting from the NVR. The only reason I pick up a fish eye is to cover 360 deg on my 2nd floor without having to invest in 2 cameras. 2) the HDMI port got damaged because my NVR is placed in an area where the cable is curved at an angle because of the tight space. I tried to replace it but the HDMI itself is Lorex proprietary and not available to purchase. Soldering is out of the question because the pins that connect to the board snapped. My fix is using a VGA to HDMI adapter to hook the NVR to my TV. Also I highly recommend to plug your NVR to a good power surge and UPS to protect from power surge. Learned this when a power surge fried the power supply of the NVR. Quick fix but a hassle. I used APC UPS 650 VA. Down the line, I’d probably upgrade to the Lorex Fussion to allow wireless Lorex cameras to be saved in the drive.

I'm a bit late to this party, but Lorex does now offer what they call Fusion NVRs that can connect both wired and wireless cameras (as well as other sensors) together all on the same system. Lorex has been good for me. I have had no system issues - no reboots needed. Granted I still don’t have my cameras mounted but I have one looking over my cats liter box and one in my indoor garden rack. Lawn guy said the window broke so I thankfully had cameras at the basement window and saw if it cracked or not. No issues with exporting video footage. The only con I have is the lack of storing the video footage on a network share. I understand you can connect a usb drive and then storage it there but I want to offload it to a network drive.

You can already cast to TV with Lorex or any other cam system with HDMI output as there are lots of HDMI transmitters and receivers. This tech has been around for several years already. You can usually pick up a transmitter and receiver set for about $30, but if you are already using the one HDMI line to a monitor somewhere, you will need an HDMI splitter as well to add more HDMI outs.

I live in an apartment, so it makes it harder to install a system, because hard wiring cameras through walls is not an option. I went with a Reolink system that came with a DVR and Poe cameras. I use a combination of wired and Reolink wireless cameras to get the coverage I need. The wireless cameras will link up to the DVR and footage will be recorded on the DVR. The wireless cameras can also record to a micro-SD card so that is an added bonus. I went with a combination of both types of cameras, because I tried an all wi-fi camera system and it tends to bog down the wi-fi. It is now becoming more common for a thief to jamb the wi-fi systems of a house they are breaking into. Unfortunately, I have to use 3 DVRs because I use wired cameras in different areas that I can't connect to one DVR because I can't run wires through the wall. I can connect to all the DVRs at once through the Reolink app so I can monitor all the cameras. I use a 32-inch HD TV next to my regular TV to monitor the cameras. It is interesting to be watching TV, but if something catches my eye on the camera monitor, I can see what is going on. After a while of doing this, you can multitask watching TV and the camera monitor without realizing you are doing it. I also run 2 different routers for wi-fi. I run one router for security and home automation, and a separate router for everything else. If one router dies, I can transfer everything over to one router till I can replace the bad one. The best thing is, it is very reliable and except for a little maintenance I don't spend much time maintaining the system. I clean the camera lens when needed and format the hard drive and micro-SD cards every so often and that's about it.

Ive got a 16 ch system from lorex. Ive had it for 2+ years.. You can add wireless cameras to this system through your network / wifi router. So in my instance I didn't want to run a bunch of wires all over the yard from the front yard to the back yard.(my old flooded house is in the front yard my RV I live in is in the back yard) so I purchased a unmanaged poe switch since it was 1/2 to a 1/3 of the price of a managed switch. The 7 cameras there are connected to that poe network switch that switch it connected to my RV about 200 ft away with a nice heavy duty uv protected cat 6 cable to my wifi router in the RV I then have a few cameras mounted around my RV and 1 wireless camera at the back gate. Now on a fresh boot/restart yes the cameras plugged directly into the NVR (Network Video Recorder) do pop up quickly the others can be slightly sluggish to pop up on the screen but as far as real time video and quality there's no difference either way they they are hooked up. Yes I too have caught many people with my cameras from neighbors trying to take my dog the kids playing outside crazy family members coming over while I'm gone looking through my stuff and taking it. Had 1 guy try to destroy a camera unsuccessfully he just broke the wire and then come driving by hours later when I was outside with my local PD making the report needless to say BUSTED. Lol The PD sped off after him and he was caught. Ive also caught some beautiful humming birds mid flight checking out the camera to see what it was. I love the camera system the only 3 major cons I have about the lorex system is the setup/menus is not very user-friendly for novice users. The ai (artificial intelligence) that is suppose to pick up or detect people and vehicles for alerts is not that great. It alerts me there is a person in front of ???? Camera when in fact its a dog or other animals and last thing is on video play back. I have used different systems in the past including commercial once with previous employers and you can't quickly scroll through the video. Like other systems ive used you can roll the wheel on the mouse and it will scroll through frame by frame as fast or slow as you spin the wheel and as far as hitting fast forward you sometimes get decoding error messages where the unit is not able to process the video fast enough to match as fast as your trying to play it and so therefore it through up that message. Well there is a 4th con im sorry but lights like headlights and lightning set off the motion detection at night and sometimes the lightning causes the camera system or app to take random snap shots like it was a flash from a camera taking a picture. Besides all of that its an awesome system thats been very reliable. Arlo had the best ai ive seen on the market it detects people animals packages and vehicles its just the cost of the system the monthly service fees swapping out batteries cause its a wireless system no true on-site recording beside a thumb drive and internet is required for playback unless you remove and place the thumb drive or USB flash drive into a computer etc its just a huge expensive headache stick to the lorex system you will be pleased.

Probably the most informative point you should have brought to the attention of your viewers is 30 FPS (frames per second) vs the blurry 15 frames per second 4K systems >> junk systems being pawned off on the unsuspecting consumer. You can have all the 4K you want but "movement blur" reduces the footage to cheap dime store surveillance videos, worth nothing. 60 FPS would be twice that of 30 FPS giving added clarity per frame. I would have mentioned that in this review, to warn your viewer/buyers from purchasing 15 FPS systems, pushing Lorex into recognizing the necessity of... higher end 60 FPS systems. In my neighborhood, we are not only fighting the criminals but the cops who act ignorant to Felony Vandals claiming the video is not clear enough! In our videos we prove beyond a reasonable doubt, that the cops are RICO racketeering agents, allowing the criminals to get away >> stalking and harassing our information against their unlawful activity. Otherwise, it was a good video.

Thank you for a very informative explanation of the Lorex 4K Security System. I like the POE system but I am a bit curious about the 2nd connector on the camera labeled “power.”

@12:10 As a person who works with $1M dollar system and cameras (Genetec and Axis), the downfall of zoom cameras is that someone has to manually zoom in otherwise your left with the same problem unless the analytics are amazing. What you're looking for is an LPR camera but are cost prohibitive for the home user. You can try the LNB9292B but just know its half the price of your entire system which is not surprising.

One thing you didn't mention was playback. While a lot of people can set up alarm zones for our purposes we frequently find ourselves needing to search the video. An example was a delivery driver failing to follow instructions. Unfortunately we needed to manually search the video however it was very time consuming because it only has 8x ff. We also have a Swann NVR and it plays back at up to 120x ff. Big difference however the Swann cameras are far inferior in my opinion. That being said we have had 2 cameras fail in the 1 year that we've had the system.

You can highlight an area when looking at footage and it will show you anything that happened in that area. As an example say I had my car broken into. I could put a box around the car hit search and it will look for any motion in that box from the day.

Wireless isn’t as dependable and mine(Ring) froze up after a 10 seconds during a possible home invasion which I scared them off. My wifi router isn’t far from the camera but we also can’t get quality internet from a company like Comcast or AT&T. I’m buying wired now.

Looks like Lorex listened to you and other customers on needs as their fusion line appears to offer the mix of wired and wifi. Looking into security for my house upgrading from Wireless based yearly paid services for cameras that you can't see diddly and don't really get the job done when you need them to. Great video. Will watch your other on the installation. Perhaps it's something I can do myself and not have to call the electrician. Thanks again!

Great insight thank you. The biggest flaw for me would be that power can be cut to the home and it would be useless.
@RickvanderValk14
@RickvanderValk14 2 жыл бұрын
they are pretty much all the same in that respect. I would say however if you have a good system, you will record somebody coming up to the house to cut power..you would have that footage when the power is restored. The system is about not only capturing things but also acts as deterrent to people who are looking for easy targets. Plus a security system is one layer in your home defence. You have deadbolts, locks, sensors etc. All in the hopes that each layer either makes your house less attractive or slows people down.

@@RickvanderValk14 Great points for NVR or DVR systems. However, this would be a pro of battery powered cameras on the market. I decided to go battery powered and cloud based. Of course there are cons here as well. I do agree the sheer presence of a camera is a deterrent. Thanks for the vid!

A big problem with the wireless cameras is that they stop working in extreme cold. Probably only an issue in Canada and some of the northern United States but if that’s where you live you want to primarily be looking at the wired systems

I bought the Lorex 8 camera 5mp system for my house. It is easy to work for playback and zooming in on objects. So a year later I bought a 32 camera 4k system nvr system for my business. I did get 8 zoom able lense 4k cameras and the other 24 are standard digital zoom cameras. A mix of bullet and dome cameras. Picture quality is great. As with you I hardly have to touch either system. But when I want to do a playback the NVR system seems harder to use to do zooms and pausing on than the other analog system I have at home. The apps are also different and the NVR app is harder again to use. Lorex Home is better than Lorex Cloud in my opinion for ability to use the app. Lorex customer support was great, had an issue with my NVR, they sent me a new one and needed a little assistance trying to set my NVR up using wireless repeaters to a poe switch then to outdoor cameras. My home system is 8 analog with 1 wifi doorbell camera and I can tell alexe to view front door and it displays on my TV. Would I buy another Lorex system... YES.... that will only happen if I move or this one blows up. Lol. Now analog or nvr.... NVR hands down has a better picture... 4k vs 5mp. Also it was easier to wire one wire than the 2 analog cables. And I did not like the idea of having batteries in a WiFi camera. Lorex doorbell camera is powered by the electric to the doorbell so no batteries and I was thinking about the spot light camera that is hardwired to electric and wifi from lorex as an add on.

My Lorex is older with 1080P I use 3,systems because of changing needs. I think there are 6 Lorex wired, 4 Lorex powered cameras on wifi because not feasible to hard wire and 3 Arlo for moving around as needed. Raccoons and other things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I lose some of my vantage points when these leaves are on the trees so I supplement with other solutions. I see there's a Lorex converter to 4K cameras without changing wires so I want to investigate that. We are in BC

Idk if you'll see this but I was taking a look at their 4K fusion camera system. And after watching LifeHackster's review, the biggest thing holding me back is the ghosting effect at night. I don't even want color video in low light conditions. I just want a crisp B/W image at night. Do you know of a Lorex camera system that does not have a ghosting effect at night? I'm thinking of purchasing 4-6 4K cameras, and 2-4 4/5MP cameras (to place in side yards where the area being recorded is relatively small). Features that I'm going for: 1. Person/vehicle detection. 2. No ghosting at night. 3. Easily review footage, user friendly interface. 4. Thumbnail notifications. 5. Maybe more than 15fps. 6. A good build and customer service.

I find this review mostly accurate although I would add one major thing that Lorex is now missing. I bought a lorex system five or six years ago before it was purchased by the Chinese hardware company that was making the cameras. At that point Lorex offered cloud storage of videos for a fee, which was several hundred dollars a year. That was one of the main features that I wanted because if somebody breaks in and smashes your NVR you’re up the creek. When Lorex was purchased that cloud storage was discontinued. Not only that but the new company didn’t even bother to refund the prepaid fees for the cloud storage for the time that was not used. I don’t mind that they don’t run the storage although that would be better, but they need to engineer into their product the ability to upload files to any of the cloud services on a regular basis. Obviously this needs some criteria but the current back up capability is rudimentary at best. My experience with Support has also been very different. I would call it a total lack of support, but as I said my purchase was five or six years ago so they may have finally improved that area.

Hey, I appreciate the making this video. I purchased one of the same systems with 9 Cameras almost a year ago and just now I will install it. One thing for sure is that I will not buy wireless wen it comes to security! Why? Wireless is unreliable vs wired. I as a videographer u zest and perfectly the pro and cons of wireless. However, I will be filming the installation from start to finish and upload the video. I have my stepson helping me.inly to fish the wires. Talk soon! Spring Hill, Florida USA

My personal experience…..after 2 year warranty is up, Lorex gives u the shaft. My NVR stopped booting up. Just stayed on the “Lorex” logo. They could not remote in. After 2 hrs on the phone with Tech support, they said I was out of warranty & could not replace & offered to transfer me to sales…..basically giving a customer the shaft

You did good not getting Arlo. I had them. They were a pain to recharge when the batteries died. And the system itself wasn't great.
