Hi there, great information. Does peripheral sensitization also cause sensitivity to cold? Could this also be repeated with a cold stimulus? Cheers

Does he mean Peripheral sensitization causes the pain to be increased on heating the tissue as he told that peripheral sensitization reduces the heat pain threshold ? But the example he gave is quite the opposite..any ideas!!

I've had a knee problem for about 9 months. During the summer the knee swelled so badly that it dropped into the foot and I could hardly walk on bad days. Since the weather cooled down, the swelling has receded and I've been able to rehabilitate myself considerably from the deconditioning in response to the swelling. I consider this to be an example of peripheral sensitization. Yesterday was unusually warm and I was active in long trousers. My knee started to hurt and stiffen. I cooled the knee and removed the warm clothing and the pain and stiffness went away after a short time. I'm hoping that by next summer the central part of my sensitization is sufficiently under control that I don't fall back into the heat-swelling cycle. I'm doing strengthening exercises daily with care and recently graduated from crutches at all times except cross-country rough terrain walking. It's been extremely slow, and could not have been done if I had not used crutches to assist returning to a normal gait with gradual increase in weight-bearing. I have gained more for my recovery from the internet than I have from any physios or Drs.

How did you go? Did you find any answers? It's a surprisingly new field and health professionals have either not heard of it, or don't know how to safely treat it.
