The year 2100. In an effort to combat overpopulation, the postmortem social network "Anvil" is released.
A fusion of both Japanese and Belgian comics inspirations and sensibilities, such as Ghost in the Shell, Akira or Peeters & Schuiten's work. "Anvil" invites us on a journey through the eyes of a young woman in her final moments on earth.
Artist: Lorn
Title: Anvil
Label: Wednesday Sound
Directed by GERIKO (Hélène Jeudy & Antoine Caëcke)
Design, Script & Animation by Antoine Caëcke & Hélène Jeudy

i was going to point out that this Video was uploaded 1 year BEFORE Cassini plummeted into Jupiter. But the dates were too close to not be coincidental, *this music video was released almost exactly 1 year* # before Cassini plummeted into Jupiter, an end-of-mission which was decided on over 3 yrs prior (at least). So yeah the dates & names could have been specified. (#: give or take 1 day, i'm not good with international date conversions)

I don't think anybody is going to read this, but I'd like to share it anyway. A couple of years ago I went on an exchange to Edinburgh, Scotland, for a fall term during my undergraduate studies. It was my first time living abroad for a couple of months on end, I was very excited but also fairly nervous. When I was younger, I used to be afraid of leaving home for extended periods of time, so this was quite a big step. Contrary to my own expectations, however, everything went exceptionally well, I found dozens of new friends from around the globe that I am still in touch with to this day and I got to explore Scotland which - if you have never been - I can only highly recommend. On my very last day, I was even sad to leave which I never would have guessed before going there. To mark the occasion, I decided to hike Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh in the early hours of the morning so as to be at the summit at sunrise. I started walking around 3.30am when it was still fully dark and managed to make it to the top just in time to the see the sun come up. When I sat down at the top, I put on this song and listened to it while watching the city wake up. It was incredible and whenever I hear this song now, I always have to think back to that moment.

A bit more backstory from GERIKO, creators of this video "“Right from birth, people receive a robot for their daily needs - cleaning up, games, education, social and sexual life - until the day it signals the end of their right to live on Earth,” the duo explains. “The robot then follows his owner to one of the Anvil facilities, activating the machine that will end the citizen’s days. During this transition, the body is destroyed and a part of the robot is recycled as a server/funerary urn.”"
@teknoboy15
@teknoboy15 8 ай бұрын
I feel that the robot doesn’t signal your end, it is your choice with the world being so over populated. She has the walk and look of determination and confidence, this is when she will move on from her physical place on earth. She is able to choose her own dimension onto which she will end.

I actually took it a different way. Her entire nervous system is being digitized and failing in the real space. Her body is arcing due to the sensation of her nerves registering in her real brain for the last time. Something she is willingly doing to herself; as its a form of ego masturbation to become eternal, no?

I guess I just want somewhere to share my story. When I was 19 I took shrooms, and it was like I was turned inside out. As a child, I was very extroverted and loved being around people. And after the shrooms, I felt disconnected from everyone and everything around me. I just wanted to alone. I am learning to feel happiness from within myself, not running from myself. It's been a LONG and PAINFUL process but once it's healed, it's healed and beautiful.

This raises interesting questions on what it means to be human. It's my dream to have my mind uploaded into simulated reality so I can be whoever and whatever I want, relive my memories and do the impossible without limitations. Do all of those things lose value simply because they are virtual? Is the virtual world not also real? What does it even mean to be human? Is it our consciousness that makes us human or our physical bodies?

I’m a linguist and I took the time to frame by frame the messages scrolling. Here’s what I can gather: Ana is uploading here consciousness to a system that lets you select from different “digital planes of existence”. Ana chose one called Anvil. In Anvil the scrolling text appears to be messages from the other consciousnesses that populate it. Deconstructing the text it appears to be a sort of neo-English combined with evolved emoji speak. The messages are all the the effect of “Welcome to Anvil” “Greeting Ana with love” People telling her their names I think there may also be a welcoming party planned. Best video ever!

I was wondering. What if a program accessing your brain could release you into a malleable, dreamy virtual world of your choosing, while at the same time making you forget about your real life, and even your existence as a physical entity. Where you just become a bodiless being, totally free of pain and mental suffering, and perhaps filled with sensuality. It would be like a powerful escapist drug.

Gives me the whole Soylent Green vibe, creepy and sad. (2 hours later) EDIT: The more I watch this, the more terrifying it is. (4 Hours later): This is truly horrifying, this is about a woman using a suicide machine. We watch her consciousness get disassembled (as she dies) and her digital copy waking up. Finding itself in the strange ruins of a social media site. Whilst that’s going on the body has been disposed of (fire, liquefaction?) and placed in to a funeral urn! She’s dead and we had a front row seat!

Always, come back to this one from time to time, still gets me 27 years and life is over. Makes you look at your own life and think, damn did I do enough, was my life full, fulfilling, and did I leave any kind of legacy? Crazy how a song by Lorn was transformed by the Geriko crew into this short anime odyssey. I'm sure I'll be hitting play on this for years to come!
