This never fails to move me almost to tears. So come all ye at hame wi' freedom, never heed what the hoodies croak for doom In yer hoose a' the bairns o' Adam will find breed, barley bree and painted room When MacLean meets wi' his freends in Springburn a' they roses and geans will turn tae bloom And a black lad frae 'yont Nyanga dings the fell gallows o' the burgers doon.

What foul heart can listen to this and not weep? This is a song of triumph and liberation and every soul that carries the spirit can hear its words loud and clear. Scots, you bear witness.

I absolutely love this song, particularly this version. Gives me goosebumps. Great for our anthem.

Agreed. That's the whole point of the song. It's a Scottish Patriotic song about living up to our responsibilities, and looking ourselves in the mirror.

Whatever you lot are arguing about patriotism blah blah, the song is beautiful and Lorraine has the voice of an Angel, love it all.

Lorraine this is so lovely best version of Freedom come all ye I've heard! We are going to sing it in this style (more gentle and peaceful) at our wedding celebrations on the evening of 30 December this year (2014) leading up to my woman partner Gerrie and me making our legal vows of marriage before our family and friends! We will be among the first to be able to do so and are therefore celebrating equality, peace and freedom too!

Congratulations on your wedding....many years of happiness to ye both. Sing it loudly!

What a beatiful version of this song. Never tire of listening to it. Love Luke Kelly's version too - very different approach.

Luke Kelly added something to every song he sang :-) His Parcel O' Rogues, his Ould Triangle, are two others that give me goosebumps.

There is a sense of innocence deep in her voice, and hearing that can really relaxed me… Dad said that we are still related to her, don't know how far or he's just making things out. But if it was the truth I couldn't be more proud.

I love her version of this song. She adds something new to it. The only tiny thing is that she gets the words wrong! I think she realised it too. It's a difficult song to sing accurately but she does a good job overall.

I think it's beautiful, as her. Dick Gaughan was good, but we need the now, the present, and the future. Freedom is till to be won, and even harder to keep, but life is pointless without the promise of attaining it. And those who would sell out for money are as despicable as the cowardly who give freedom away in fear.

Some of these comments are harsh. Of course what people like or not is objective so you may prefer other singers but I don't think she could be regarded as "nae singer". It is much easier to be a critic than to actually get up there and do it.

I'll take issue a wee bit. I don't think she cut the lines intentionally. It was live and she made a mistake. Watch how her eyes are closed, thinking, and she recovers well. The other point is that Henderson himself said he didn't want it to be thought of as a patriotic anthem. He wanted it to be wider than that. You're right about acknowleding the part Scotland played in empire building though.

Great song but that doesn't make a great anthem. Same, I'm afraid, applies to Flower of Scotland. Superb in a folk club; not so much at Murrayfield.
@CarzorStelatis Жыл бұрын
Interestingly she leaves out the lines "Broken faimlies in lands we’ve herriet, Will curse Scotland the Brave nae mair, nae mair;" Replacing them with a repeat of the last two lines of the previous stanza. Would be interested if there's a story behind this?

to my shame I didn't realise that Lorraine was such a lovely singer, so much more than just a bouncy sidekick to Ricky.

I see and hear this as a socialist anthem - regardless of whether Hamish likes that or not - it has overtaken hids opinion, but not his presence or memory - this should be our national song.
@madstock20007 жыл бұрын
i used to fancy her like mad, still do, the day i saw her "stomp" and with deacon blue almost felt like she would just add in an ad-lib but it worked, i personally think she has a fantastic voice, but i am biased

Socialism is always a disaster and not Scottish. Sad to see people devoted to announcing to the world that Scotland is something it’s not. Socialism can stay in China and North Korea. Scotland is so much better than that

Having personally felt the brutal and cruel excesses of the Black Watch and other Scottish Regiments in Ireland , and YES, brutalalizing men women and children while wrecking humble homes at the same time, Henderson's beautiful lyrics ,as the previous writer pointed out, theses "performers" should look for gigs in English Music Halls!!!!!! BTW the late Alistair Gilles and I became good friends here in Pittsburgh, my nearly 4 years in Long Kesh notwithstanding. Gaughan is the man for me!!!

If this song can be considered an example of Scottish independence, then will you please come make America free in the way that you understand it. We have still got a lot to learn, apparently. Our Declaration of Independence looks half-assed compared to this.

She did muddle up the lyrics a bit! Repeated part of 1st verse in the second: I was there that night and there were plenty in the audience who knew the words better than she did! And credit to Kris Drever for the guitar!
