Damn, landing the pole vault back then looked pretty treacherous.

Dr Pat O'Callaghan became the first person representing Ireland to successfully defend his Olympic title, having also won the Hammer throw in Amsterdam. This feat was not repeated until the Paris 2024 Olympics when first the rowers O'Donovan and McCarthy and then the boxer Kelly Harrington successfully defended their titles first won in Tokyo in 2021. If either Daniel Wiffen or Rhys McClenaghan win in LA in 2028, they will become the first individual Irishman to successfully defend their Olympic title since 1932.

Out of all the sporting footage that I have seen from this era they never show any cycling. Before WWll track bike racing was one of the most popular sports in America. If you have any footage I would love to see some.

In 1984, a simulated TV broadcast of the Los Angeles 1932 Olympics was made. Does anyone remember it?

Absolutely. The olympics are a celebration, not a nightmare.
