The fun fact is that this is the 3rd time Los Angeles will be hosting the Olympic Games and thus some older facilities will be used and updated, besides newer ones that's been built in the last decade. In many ways Los Angeles is now pretty much iconic to the modern games. That the city is insisting that the venues can be used by the public after shows that the city is not just about the games but really wants to ensure its citizens are able continue using the venues long after the games are finished.
@redletter20082 ай бұрын
It should have been already. The 1984 Games in L.A. made extensive use of pre-existing facilities. It’s one of the reasons those games actually generated a financial profit. The model for success has existed for 40 years. In that span, it seems only Paris, just this year, followed with a similar approach. I believe L.A. ‘28 will be another huge success for the Olympic movement.

I am very excited to be taking in as many sports as I can. Especially since I am in Southern California. I am not a big fan of the TV sport’s most popular to the masses like track and field, swimming, and gymnastics but love the newer sports like skateboarding and BMX. not sure where your figure came from for LACC if you google the LA convention center expansion the budget is $1.4 billion not $54 million lol! maybe $54 million only covers the budget of just the olympic side of things for the venue. Also after doing more research 54million is only the pre construction work that needs to be done so yeah much much more than 54 million...

They also need to finally house the homeless with permanent housing, because it would be a shame for the guests to see the plight of the homeless being so expansive throughout the city making it a legitimate third world city!
@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent2 ай бұрын
We can start by indentifying homeless that was transferred over from other cities and states. Identify the families or people that had them and fine the cities and families until they are able to take back people they literally dumped into California cause they couldn't care for them or didn't want to care for them or provide help. That's several thousand homeless right there.. Better housing for the rest or providing them a new opportunity in a new town or city might help. Installation of state run Mental facilities could be useful as well.
@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent2 ай бұрын
Also Los Angeles is not a third world city. There are other cities back east that fits the profile far far better. Ironically probably the same ones that dumped their homeless to California.
@danmur27972 ай бұрын
The metro area is over 1000sq miles with a 13 million population. They've usually been concentrated near a few locations like Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Downtown. You can visit many parts of LA and there isn't any such issue like any other city. Not to say it isn't a problem that should be addressed. The poster above also has a point. We need to send many of these people back to their own states and cities, whether they come from Texas, New Orleans, Arizona, Las Vegas, etc. And yes cities on the east coast like NYC or Philly have been truly in deplorable conditions compared to LA.

If they can spend billions of dollars for this Olympics, why can't they spend that amount on a housing project for homeless people?
@danmur27972 ай бұрын
Billions are already spent on that issue. But many other states and cities also need to account for the population of transients they send to California. In Texas, when the sheriff's threaten to arrest people for loitering and nuisance, they give them 2 options--spend time in jail or a bus ticket to California. Guess which one they choose. We need to crack down on cities that do that.

@thevoyager632 ай бұрын
Less click bait title please. There's no "saving billions" of dollars in this video. It's all spending.
@danmur27972 ай бұрын
It's saving compared to the spending done for the event at other Olympic cities where they build venues specifically for the Olympics, with taxpayer money, and then don't use them anymore. No new stadiums are being built in LA that weren't already being constructed. The SoFi stadium for instance was built to house the Rams by the Rams owner--no taxpayer funds were used. The Intuit dome was built for the Clippers not the Olympics--again built by the owner of the Clippers. That's another thing--many of these venues, airport remodel, and transportation were planned years before LA was selected to host the Olympics because LA needed them. So a lot of that wasn't budgeted with the Olympics in mind. Public transit construction and people mover at LAX were happening whether we had an Olympics or not. Public transit construction has been ongoing since the 1990s. The Athlete's Village will be hosted by UCLA where needed new dorm buildings are being constructed--and will house students after the Olympics. So a lot of that isn't Olympics spending, but regular private industry spending, and regular municipal transportation spending. The most being spent with the Olympics budget, is to rehab existing facilities. Which is negligible compared to building whole new stadiums just for one event.
@DrMJT2 ай бұрын
JUST ANOTHER GAME DAY at each venue... the Olympics will come, the Olympics will go... and LA will have NOTHING to show for it! All the things you try to present as being FOR the Olympics have already been planned/under construction for decades as the traffic is the problem with LA. The SAME traffic that had athletes miss their events because 'stuck in a tail back on the 5, 405, etc'. LAX was planned as it was long past due a refresh/upgrade and had the kick start with the biden infrastructure act! ALL total BS. Each venue will be no different to the venue or the surrounding areas than a NFL, NBA etc game that night. People will DRIVE to the venues and they will DRIVE AWAY from the venues. NO net benefit. The 2700 buses, have yet to be ordered. They will not arrive in time. The major already stated they would be sold immediately AFTER the games = again NO Gain in they could be used for increased public transport in the world's most congested city. 1984 was an absolute disaster. The IOC said LA would never host again. I am shocked to see it there again.
