@baileym47082 ай бұрын
I'm serious, what is it with ICE drivers against EVs? Makes no sense. EVs are almost 90% efficient compared to internal combustion engines (ICE) which are about 30% efficient. Making the electricity and transporting to EVs need to be considered but refining oil and transporting gas on trucks isn't more efficient in any ways. Yes, manufacturing requires an EV to be driven 3 years at 12,000 miles to catch up to the carbon footprint compared to making an ICE vehicle but after that, it is all a gain. I'm not going climate dude on this isn't the point and is debatable but ,just saying EVs are more efficient so what is the big deal with them? I do agree, government shouldn't ban ICE vehicles either but EVs are not the bad guys here.
@mrtopcat22 ай бұрын
@@baileym4708 ICE research and target is closing in on 50%. E-fuels are in the works as well. Power transmission accounts to ~10% losses. Charging another ~10% (hence the cooling requirement while charging). Modern EV engines are also just slightly above 90%.

@@techshabby0001 yeah plants are good for the planet, they clean the air we breath, keep the outdoors cooler, keep our homes cooler etc. the high rises shouldn’t be built in places where it affects air flow, another natural way of cooling areas we live down, especially ocean breeze. I believe we shouldn’t be cutting down trees and removing plants unless we absolutely have to, like building a house or whatever, leave the trees alone, build the roads around them, deal with the maintenance of trimming the tree or allow them to grow like they have for millions of years and maintain themselves. It’s only going to get hotter. We need the shade, the clean air they create, and it’s proven people are happier around greenery, whether that’s on a farm or city’s with parks and tree lined streets. I live in Los Angeles and they just released a study on the greenery around the city, areas that have more greenery and trees have cooler temperatures on average, and the areas with less greenery have hotter temperatures. It looked nice for a minute. It's softer than old fashioned astroturf. How did they not know about the "forever chemicals" before the government approved the product to be put on the ground?
@jakemarlow89982 ай бұрын
I live in southern California and have seen hundreds of yards convert from natural grass to "California native" landscaping. Without exception, each of these yards looks like crap. It is possible to have a low-water landscape, but you need a very good landscape architect who really knows plants. But instead, people just hire day-laborers/gardeners to install the landscape. Succulents look nice for a year. But after 3 years, they look horrible and can't really be pruned to look good. Luckily, a few years ago, I knew the drought would end so I kept all my natural grass and other plants. My yard looks primo. And we have so much water, I take bubble baths every night!

Native plants are a lot of work. I thought today’s synthetic turf was created to make better use of limited land for sports fields, safer playing surfaces for players ( if installed on a proper base), and the ability to be used virtually around the clock (if used with athletic lighting), in almost all weather conditions, without needing replacement for 10+ years. Synthetic turf does use less water than a natural grass field, even if you have to wet it down for temperature, and it does not require the use of pesticides like natural grass. However, was today’s synthetic turf ever really intended or studied for wide spread residential use? Recycling facilities for synthetic turf are limited and it is resulting in more plastics in our environment. Is a ban the only answer, or do we need additional research for ways to make synthetic turf more environmentally friendly and recyclable, especially for residential use?
@willieverusethis2 ай бұрын
Good questions. Since we will have to recycle water more and more, we have to be more cautious about what's in our runoff. California was just cut off from a bunch of Colorado River water, so it's going to be tough in the next drought.

Why do they need to add more laws? Why can’t they just issue advisories based on the latest research. So much energy on non-sense bans that require more resources to enforce

So they can stop the sellers from selling in the area, and reduce the amount of money we have to pay to treat the water at the treatment plants so we can reuse it.

They just hurt my ears to listen to. I am so tired of these ‘35-something’ cute things in tight dresses, shrieking out the ‘news’. It is everywhere! Could we PLEASE have more maturity and gravitas?

The point of all of this is…. Your governor, your legislature , your mayors , they never thought this measure and countermeasure through. They just gave you all marching orders. And to make matters worse , Californians started to adopt the edict and rolling Astro Turf in their own lawns. Taking marching orders from people they despise. Meanwhile , in the Netherlands , farmers revolted against the parliament and the prime minister for measures against their way of farming , and dumped tons of manure in front of the Assembly, all at once. It made news and bad press for the PM and his cabinet. You see the difference ? You can complain all you want in forums, until you take matters in your own hands in an organized fashion , no one will care.

This is precisely why I don’t live my life around what these empty suits say. One minute it’s you should do this and the next minute okay now that’s banned so do something else. Too much overreach. Just like with hybrids. You should get hybrids, then everyone does it, and what does California do? Okay now we need to tax you per mile since people are buying less gasoline. After they told us to find a way to buy less gas by buying into hybrids. Now it’s we’re going to ban new gas car sales so buy an EV. Get ready for another ban.

Exactly- and the fools living there eat it up. The people like it. The people are so stupid they need the government to tell them how to live. The government knows this - and like you said- are banning the sale of ice cars- yet some people have no way of charging them- Example- older apartment buildings in LA- the current electrical system in those old buildings are not designed for 30 cars to be charged every night. Yet the people will still do as they are told and then be f’ed once they realize it’s 4 hours to charge the batteries. And California plans to raise the cost of electricity so high that the average family can’t even charge their car-
@willieverusethis2 ай бұрын
To be fair, they are trying to control the unintended results of technological change, and it's not easy. How do you pay for infrastructure for water and sewer when people are using much less of it and your revenues go way down? How do you reduce carbon but not destroy the jobs created by the auto industry? Every time I think about these issues I thank my lucky stars that all I have to do is work hard and keep my nose clean. I'd hate to be a politician.
@DaveEPie2 ай бұрын

So artificial turf that needs no water uses as much water as natural grass that you have to water everyday? Don't you have to add fertilizer to natural grass? What about the pollution from the lawn motors that cut natural grass. The policy makes no sense.

Priorities are not in order. You get no respect when you allow crime to destroy people’s livelihood and then you make laws about banning artificial turfs. This sounds like lazy blanket bill. How hard to identify and regulate the specific substances used in artificial turf? We can't just ban use of asphalt or brake that we know having negative impact on environment and health.
