Thanks for acknowledging that some of us ARE born here and not EVERYONE works in "The Industry" Los Angeles is an actual city with working class people and families just trying to live their daily lives.

Been in Hollywood since 1998... This is the most worried that I've ever been... Proud of my community... Love to All. Thanks, gents. p.s. I'm a fan of silly and schlocky... Like MIRACLE MILE and L.A. STORY

Bravo! Excellent episode idea for a tough, harrowing week. You two are Cultural First Responders.

OMG, I love Tangerine! One of my favorite movies, it's a tie with Bagdad Cafe! I had to go over to my boys on FishJelly to watch their review of Tangerine again!

The Perry Mason reboot on HBO, The Big Lebowski, and lately, the movie Thelma. Delightful little noir-lite comedy now on Hulu. One reviewer thought it had a good sense of LA geography.

Heat, strange days, collateral, american gigolo, the long goodbye and the player are some wonderful LA movies!

The first movie I thought of was the last movie Ira mentioned, "Collateral". Don't kno wexactly why? I'm not from L.A., but that movie conjured up a very different vision of L.A. than I was used to seeing in movies.

I think one of my fave LA movies is Speed haha. Also agree on Clueless & Insecure as seminal LA media. Maybe Curb Your Enthusiasm even though its basically White Lotus-level rich people escapism for me so I doubt it's representative of the city, but it's certainly a character!

"In the line for the bar at the Golden Globes, that's when that convo's sposed to happen" - Hey, we're talking about LA here, don't you mean "in the bathroom having a line at the Golden Globes"? ;)

"Breathe" was Michelle Branch (2003) AND Anna Nalick (2005). Also Faith Hll in 1999, but then The Corrs released "Breathless" in 2000, so it was a confusing time.

1975's "The Day of the Locust" is worth a look- creepy and compulsively watchable look at Hollywood in the 1930s.

I think Robert Altman's Shortcuts is a good LA movie. You got to see LA people of different classes all in one film.
