Tom Bradley deserves a lot more credit for establishing the modern metro system in Los Angeles.

The subway lines were Tom Bradley's idea, the light rail lines were Kenneth Hahn's idea.

It was in 1963 when the last street car ran in Los Angeles. Los Angeles made a huge mistake by dismantling the Pacific Electric Red Cars and the Yellow Cars. In the following years, Los Angeles would suffer congestion and heavy traffic. This is when Los Angeles decided to bring the trains back and as a result the blue and red lines were built.

@@Futbol-z9w Los Angeles once had the Pacific Electric red cars and the LARy yellow cars but they were dismantled in the 1950's and the 1960's. I can't wait until the new Regional Connector opens next year in 2022!!!

When Blue Line opened, people were still shocked at the now-famous shocking cliffhanger ending of season 3 of the popular Star Trek Next Generation series. This grand opening had hopes for most people to relieve themselves from the cliffhanger.

@LAOCTransitFan The Staples Center is a block west of where the Militant was standing. Today there is a parking lot in between Staples and the Pico Station, back then it was a post office, which you can see briefly, and is covering what would be the site of Staples & LA Live. Staples Center stood on what used to be the site of the Los Angeles Convention Center's North Hall. It was a smaller convention hall and it was a simple steel structure, so knocking it down wasn't a big deal.

@LAOCTransitFan And on the site of LA Live was a bunch of old stores and apartments. When Staples opened, that land became a flat parking lot for the arena for a number of years, then it was excavated to build LA Live.

+Alanzo DeLuca A 65-cent increase in 25 years is actually pretty good. Consider the price of gas in 1990 -- it was about $1.09 a gallon -- roughly equal to transit fare then, but in 25 years it's gone up to just over $3.00.

The Green Line opening just had a simple ceremony at the Imperial/Wilmington station. The Militant was there, but it was kinda too crowded to see anything. It was nowhere near as fancy or dramatic as the Blue Line's opening!
