Los Ebanos and the Hand-Operated Ferry, Texas

[Texas] Los Ebanos is located by the Rio Grande about 20 miles north of McAllen, Texas. It is a slumbering little town full of smaller homes and beautiful gardens. Los Ebanos is the place of an international border crossing into Mexico using a ferry! The town across Rio Grande is Gustavo Díaz Ordaz in the state of Tamaulipas. The ferry or El Chalán is hand-operated and has been operating since the 1950s. It is the last of its kind! A great experience for sure!

What happens when you get off the boat? Are people checking passports & documents? What part of Mexico do you end up in? Do you have to walk far to get to a bus or transportation to get to other parts of Mexico? Thanks!!

Hello, you are coming to the state of Tamaulipas, MX. Gustavo Diaz Ordaz is 1.5 miles away. You can walk, or get a ride with someone or bus I think. They check passport when you go back to the US, but everything is laid back.
