June 30, 2016 by FELIX CONTRERAS • Sometimes it's necessary to get back to basics. In the case of Los Hacheros, that means returning to the deep groove of Afro-Caribbean music that provides the source material for modern salsa and all of its permutations.
As you'll see in this video, the band's dedication to authenticity is masterfully executed with a serious dose of sabor. In fact, the band was so swinging, it was impossible to sit on the sidelines and pass up my own chance to jump in during "Bambulaye" and perform with the band myself. So clear out the furniture and turn up the sound on this video to create your own dance party.
Bambulaye is available now:
iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/album/bam...
Amazon: www.amazon.com/Bambulaye-LOS-...
Set List:
"Baila Con Los Hacheros"
"Papote's Guajira"
"Bambulaye"
Credits:
Producers: Felix Contreras, Niki Walker; Audio Engineer: Josh Rogosin; Videographers: Niki Walker, Kara Frame, Colin Marshall; Production Assistant: Jackson Sinnenberg; Photo: NPR.

Torn leaves or not, the leaves are strong enough to withstand torrential rain falls. In other words the band is capable and well equipped to play any kind of music. Viva Yoruba

@usergvhhyu1223
@usergvhhyu1223 Жыл бұрын
@@daphne9733 Simple: 1) If you were to study in-depth Cuban music you'd learn that is a combination of multiple cultural vectors: African, Spanish, French, Taino, Chinese, etc, etc, etc. Cuban music, although significantly influenced by African music, is different from African music. The are multiple excellent books on the subject, I recommend you read about it. The general idea to emphasize African and de-emphasize Cuba in Cuban music and rhythms is based on utter, complete ignorance and attempted ridiculous manipulation of Cuban history and disrespect to the thousands of composers, arrangers, folk singers, bands enclave, and academic faculty in Cuban music conservatories since 1492. 2) What they say or don't say, or play in this case is irrelevant. This is a small local band that pretty much recycles, repackages and changes lyrics of traditional and contemporay Cuban music. Meaning, get existing lyrics from authors and/or owners that can not really fight their intellectual property rights in US Courts, change a few words and play it. If they were in the Rock and Roll, R&B, Rap or other forms of American music, they would have received multiple cease and desist letters of had to pay royalties that would probably either take them out of business or forced them to change their repertoire due to copyright infringement.

Serving in the army early ‘80’s at a large base I remember Latino musicians meeting in the park with their instruments, food, families and soul! They would make the most joyous music. Inevitably, it would draw listeners and before long people would be dancing and singing bringing in additional instruments. This organic rotation of performers and audience would take place throughout the day. What a fond memory this wonderful band brings me.😄

Latin American music seems to have one commonality: it is simply sustenance for the soul. Whether , Sones, Mambos, Huarachas, Cumbias, Tangos, Milongas, Rancheras, Norteñas, it is simply impossible to not find a direct relation to the value of our cultures and our life-giving rhythms. And Los Hacheros ar a great example of the incredibly talented people from our Great Continent.

I'm Puerto Rican, and a musician.. I'll say this - if that's how you feel when hearing this, it's all good. For me I hear and feel traditional Son Cubano more than "Salsa" which has a different swing from the 70's style or 80's which has a different sound also. Salsa is really a fusion of the Cuban, Puerto Rican, Caribbean, and American music like Jazz, Rock, Funk, Soul mixed ext... So "Salsa" became the umbrella term for a genera of music that uses various rhythms, and Cuban is usually the base of structure. This is why you probably felt that way when hearing this. But this is Son Cubano which goes back before the Salsa explosion. I like traditional Cuban style, but I love my Salsa too👍
