Started BJJ at 73, six month of training, 85 training days, one stripe on my white belt. Lots of past injuries. Most significant of which is a low back injury which is not fully resolved. Bad shoulder, bad knee, need to lose 15-20 lbs. Grappling with teen agers, 20, 30, 40 somethings. I have a long way to go and a short time to get there.

@@andrewkarl5174 At 18 thru 22-23 I was in the USAF gym every night. Judo, TKD, Boxing, Wrestling. Got a brown belt in judo, a 2nd degree red belt in TKD. Couldn't afford to continue both while in college so I opted for Judo. College and trying to learn to fly ended my judo. Fifty plus years of no martial arts then a couple of years of Krav Maga and I hurt my back badly. What ever you do, don't injure your back.

This video of you being a normal guy that hits valleys like the rest of us old guys came right on time! Thank you my brother.

Rick is humble…”I’m just a dude” Knowing him for several years now I can tell you that he’s more than that for sure. He possesses many talents, some hidden which constantly surprise me. However, it’s because he gets on a path and just does it, as he spoke about in this latest video. I can’t say enough about that philosophy…just doing it. Following that path has paid dividends for me personally. Complacency kills. Momentum is life. Get out and get after it. 👊 BTW, he wasn’t kidding about his video skills. Legendary! If anyone has a project needing a videographer Rick is the best in the business.

Thank you Rick ❤. I’m approaching 40 this year been training for 3 years and I’ve been feeling the entropy. I’m looking forward to the next phase and this topic is perfect timing. Rage against the dying of the light

Thanks for the inspiration 42 year old new to BJJ, just fought off pneumonia, not contagious but my first day back was last week and I could barely drill my lungs are still clogged. But I didn’t want to lose momentum hearing this really helped. Thank you!

Next year give a longer heads up on the old man camp. I would have gone this year with another month or two of notice

One of the advantages of getting older is that our experiences teach us that there will be rough patches and trials, but they will pass if we just keep at being the best we can be. Thank you.

Hi Rick, your videos are very helpful, you can make one sharing your experience of how beginners can remember so many techniques when they start their path in bjj.

Started BJJ 5 mos again and was going consistently until I got a concussion. Then, had to take a couple wks off. Hated it! Wanted so bad to keep going. Thanks for the wisdom, Rick.
