Its hard to blame just the fishermen when cruise ships have been abounding for years, overtourism and lack of environmental regulations, corruption and lack of enforcement, coupled with socio-economic desperation of local inhabitants and always it seems, the ruthlessness of international corporate enterprise...

Monte cristi is no a tourism center. There are not cruise ships there. The problem is that Haitians are illegally crossing the border end destroying the mangroves to produce vegetal coal. They already don’t have have trees in the side of the island and it can be seen from space the contrasting difference between the two countries. It sad, because Haiti needs help, but Dom Rep is also poor.

How many cruise ships go to Haiti? Corporate enterprises? Have you ever been to Hispaniola? Blast fishing destroyed the reef in both countries(along with Jamaica) and it's a shame as they would of had gorgeous reefs there 100-200 years ago.

@@bluefish4999 not many cruise ships in Haiti but lots in DR on the other side of the island, and in the Region.. People seem confused that the ocean is interconnected. You dump your garbage and toxic human waste in one part, it's not like it stays there. You sandbag one shore and it erodes somewhere else. You chop down all the trees in one area or bulldoze dunes, hose everything with DDT, whatever and you can change the entire eco system. In other cases you starve out people, for $3/a day like Assange revealed in Haiti, where HRC supported sweatshops (for Hanes, Levi's etc.) Pay literally 20% of the bare minimum to survive, then people do what they have to feed their kids. Look at the tourists at the 5 star resort dead in the Bahamas the other day, from carbon monoxide poisoning in the hotel room... No oversight and no care all the way around. The whole region has been over fished not climate changed although climate change has prevented the ecosystem from replenishing.

Yes….less consumption of fish. And is there any way America can help. Like maybe send you 33 billion dollars?
