This one discovered with Shane at @OhioRiverHistory at the field of dreams. We both found rings on this day, 1 silver and 1 gold! 12:55 If you dig a half moon with your shovel and flip the plug, the roots that stay intact will allow it to heal faster and you won’t get a circle of dead grass. Also use the pinpointer on the ground before you dig to locate the target. This helps not miss the target in the plug wall or hit it with your shove.

@@BHigglessome people like using level 1 because it gets so close. But that can’t detect targets deep underground. Set the Garret to level 3 max setting. If you need to lower it as you get closer to target just push the button once as it’s beeping. Then you need to get closer before it beeps. If you keep repeating this you’ll need to touch the target before it beeps. If you keep doing that, it won’t beep when you touch the target at all because you’ve lowered the sensitivity too much. A little trick has helped me save from being off the target by a few inches. I’ll notice when I think I have the exact center of the target with the coil when I go down with the Pinpointer to check I’ll realize I’m off a few inches. So draw a big X over the spot you think the target is from what coil is telling you. Sometimes you’ll notice that coil isn’t always perfect.

I have one better. Found a class ring metal detecting. Then two weeks later met a guy at the tennis court and played a few games of tennis. Then went over to his house. He was home on leave from the Air Force. The house was next to were I found it. He told me where he went to high school and that was the school name on the ring. Yes it was his.
