POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT! I'm not sure if what I've written below really counts as a spoiler but I don't want to take any chances. "I hate temporal mechanics." - Miles O'Brien and Miles O'Brien One of the problems with time travel is what's known as the grandfather paradox. You invent a time machine. You go back in time several decades and accidentally kill a ten year old boy. Worse for you, that boy is your maternal grandfather. Since your grandfather is dead, he won't grow up and have any children. Therefore, your mother will never be born and therefore you will never be born. Which mean you won't go back in time and accidentally kill your grandfather. Which means your grandfather will be just fine and will grow up - leading to your birth and your going back in time and killing your grandfather. The whole thing becomes a never ending loop. Now lets say that in addition to being a genius who invents a time machine your are also bat shit crazy and actually want to kill your grandfather in the past. Since you exist, even before you go back in time it is a forgone conclusion that you will fail in your crazy mission. Maybe you get arrested before you can get to your grandfather or maybe you will have an accident yourself. Whatever the reason, the mere fact of your existence is proof that your grandfather didn't die at age ten. This is why in many time travel stories we are told that the past is unalterable (eg, Game of Thrones, "the past is written, the ink is dry"). That, of course, is limiting and kind of boring. How do writers get around that? One way is to postulate alternate timelines that run simultaneously. With this idea you can go back and kill your grandfather - without it affecting your own birth - because what you have done is create an alternate timeline in which you are not born but in which you (bat shit crazy, grampa murdering you) are now, essentially, a visitor in the new timeline (that you created) from the original timeline. How will Lost handle this paradox. Time will tell.
@reverseBLT5 жыл бұрын
Look up the Bootstrap Paradox. It's a tad more apt to the situation as Lost is playing with it. The most problematic element is the origin of a given loop.

Time travel in fiction doesn't ever make sense so don't sweat it. Even if you think it makes sense, it doesn't. All they can do as storytellers is follow the rules they outline for themselves. Different shows use different rules for time travel. Back to the Future allows people to meet their past & future selves & change their present & future. Avengers: Endgame, on the other hand, allows people from the past to go to the future. It just depends what kind of story they want to tell. Btw Charlotte Staples Lewis: C.S. Lewis. Hmm.

By the way, if anyone was wondering who the people shooting at them was in the canoe.. According to supplementary material in the final DVD compilation, six men from the Black Rock were also in the water, having traveled through time after leaving their main ship. Around December 15th, 1867, the Black Rock had become stuck inside the pull of the Island unable to escape. The crew of the ship began showing symptoms of time flashes. Apparently non-canon, but from other Lost related sources: Juliet's gunshot did not kill her target, but all but one of the sailors later jumped out of the canoe to their deaths, evidently suffering from the same "cabin fever" that plagued the Kahana's crew. The sole survivor returned to the main ship. No further parties entered the water. A few days later, however, a storm began, sending the main ship crashing on to the Island. The entire crew died there. ("Ab Aeterno")
@troublesomebirdsong5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's worth noting that Jin and Danielle never really interacted in previous seasons. She first came to the survivors' camp at the end of season 1, just before Jin left on the raft. The only other time they crossed paths was in late season 3 before everyone went off to the radio tower (but Jin, Sayid and Bernard stayed behind to shoot the dynamite), and then later when Jack's group and Locke's group split up. So it's plausible, especially after having gone insane, that Danielle wouldn't realise Jin was the man she met briefly sixteen years ago. Or if she did, she just didn't mention it, because she didn't understand why he hadn't aged.

I'm glad Suraj is so comfortable with any backlash he gets from his involvement in their "pure" reactions, because what's clear is that his involvement is not for the edification of the two first-time viewers. It's more about his wanting to be the one to mansplain things and about recycling jokes (he heard from his 1st, 2nd, or 3rd viewing) for a "new audience" and about hearing himself "expertly" opine on the show (that he's watched MULTIPLE times). 4:05 Here, Suraj is expressing his "outrage" at the antics of this lawyer. But here's the thing. When a first time viewer responds to a scene, they're REacting. When a veteran viewer responds to a scene he's seen MULTIPLE TIMES and knows it's coming, he's simply acting. So, what's he doing here again? 4:45 This little contribution was his way of mansplaining the scene between Richard and Locke. What he "learned" was not to introduce such contributions with "do you remember the scene where..." 9:44 Here, he didn't spoil the hatch reveal, per se, because a lot of viewers immediately connected that time jump with the hatch light scene. HOWEVER, the writers, thinking that it might've been lost on some of them, decided to add this scene of Sawyer's exposition. And who knows, perhaps Suraj was among the perceptive who immediately connected those dots when he watched in real-time OR maybe he had the dots connected for him via that added exposition. The point being, he knew BECAUSE OF having watched the series MULTIPLE TIMES so he should let the reactors react and let the writers inform. His earlier explanation about the hatch light and timeline was UNNECESSARY and, as it turned out, premature. 10:37 So here, Suraj saw fit to remind them of the Charlotte nose-bleed storyline (before they connect those dots on their own)... God forbid they connect the dots on their own. 13:40 Here Nikki had a genuine reaction... that Suraj was about to say. Nikki should know better than to react to something before he had a chance to give his two cents. In other words, there are times his acting and his mansplanations would've been organic reactions from the newbies. 15:55 Rana has a genuine reaction to a scene. Suraj has to add a little mansplanation... just in case??? 16:22 So here, Suraj's is "speculating" aloud what he's figuring out is behind the nosebleeds. But the ensuing mansplanation session was done ostensibly to "help" Nikki understand. But it wasn't done for her or Rana. In fact, it looked like Rana could've done it herself or together with Nikki pieced it all together (as what first-time viewers are SUPPOSED TO DO). But he robbed Rana of that opportunity. But who am I to say what should and should not happen on a reaction channel. I mean, what reactors like figuring things out on their own when they could leave that all to someone who's watched the show MULTIPLE TIMES and who is desperate to mansplain everything for them?
@neofluxmachina5 жыл бұрын
I watch this specific reaction series mostly because of Suraj being there to geek out alongside with - you call it mansplaining, I just see a fan honestly geeking out over the show he loves and is sharing with friends (he pretty much acts the same way I did when I shared this show with someone). Guess not everyone watches for the same thing. If the girls didn't want his input I guess they could ask him to leave.

She said she would wear it "next time", but they record multiple episodes in one sitting, so "next time" really just means the next time they get together to record Lost reactions, thus she'll probably be wearing by like episode 6 or 7 at the latest...

This dude says he'll be careful about what he says then just straight up spoils Charlotte. He's like a KZbin comment section commenter who feels cool about knowing something because they've watched/played the show/movie/game several times. The whole reaction of Lost with Nikki started FOR Nikki's reaction because she's never seen it. So, saying you're just there to watch TV with your friends is just a cop out. Don't title the videos as reaction videos if you're going to pretend this is just you hanging with your friends.

Order of nosebleeds... Big fan of Lost and I never noticed it. Damnnnnn...

They never answered the boat directly but it's pretty clear who that was. Still, that's probably the only disappointment I've had with LOST: I thought we're gonna see this scene from the other perspective and that it's gonna be important. That maybe Juliet killed herself shooting back or something crazy like that. 1:34 Nikki warging into them ravens.

It's funny how French always sounds off in US shows
@youtpfpm60975 жыл бұрын
For a french, it sounds weird. It was the same with old Danielle's message at the begining of the serie.
@kait71685 жыл бұрын
Lupercal06 how do you mean? Like the accent or pronunciation?
@linainverse785 жыл бұрын
The actors are clearly Canadian. I mean Montand in particular, his accent is just awful.
@Lupercal065 жыл бұрын
Kait Stewart In general, French is a lot more monotone than English. The intonations within words and sentences isn’t as strong. In most US shows I’ve watched, French sounds like it would if it was directed by an English-speaking person; the intonations are way too strong and not were they should be. As someone suggested, the actors might be Canadian, but even then, I feel like French Canadian wouldn’t sound like this. And like someone else said, it was the same with Rousseau’s radio message in season 1.
@linainverse785 жыл бұрын
@@Lupercal06 Some of the problem is due to the translation into French. Their choice of words is so unnatural and stilted (even worse in the next episode). Even with a perfect accent, it would sound very odd to a french ear. I suspect that whoever was in charge of translation is either a non-native speaker or french canadian since the way Canadians speak has lots of specificities (not just the accent).

Probably Jacob's people (what lies in the shadow of the statue) from Ajira Airways, flight 316.
Does Nikki ever tell her stalker (???) story? She hints a few times about being like Jack creepin' on folks.

For all the knowledge and manipulation Ben has access too he just can't trust in the power of jacob and the island. The sheer amount of coincidences surrounding the oceanic 6 right now should be enough for ben to see everything is lining up why else would they all be in L.A. at the same time. His attempts to change things just seams to push everyone away.

I'm glad you were in on these reactions, Suraj. It's fun to see the newbie reactions from Rana and Nikki, but it's also really entertaining and fun to see the reaction of someone who has a strong passion for the show. I love that kind of enthusiasm and engagement!

The more I think about Kate and Aaron, the more I feel disgusted to my core. She actually used an innocent baby to use as her personal comfort blanket and kept him away from his grandmother for so many years. And the other members of the Oceanic Six, along with Desmond, Penny and Frank didn't say a goddamn thing. This is probably one of the worst crimes I have seen committed on "LOST" and so many fans saw nothing wrong with what they did. I find that even more disgusting.
@jimtams7 ай бұрын
lmao wtf... kate lovingly raising a child in a warm and supportive environment is a worse crime than the massacre of hundreds of dharma people whose bodies were dumped in a hole and not even buried?... sounds like this is just some personal issue that triggered you lol
