Locke was supposed to move the island but Ben did it instead. Locke arrives 3 years late in a different time window and doesn't have the time. Even more sad is seeing the repraise of who told Locke he would have to die. What's even sadder is rewatching the series knowing the truth but the viewer can't change the past. Looking at Terry O'Quinn not only puts a smile on my face but at the same time looking at him brings me so much sadness that my eyes will just well up instantly. As for Ben Linus, this fool also thinks he has a purpose but when I see him I can't be mad at him because he isn't a sloppy character. He isn't an idiot one bit. This guy knows what he's doing. He's clever as hell and always a few steps ahead. I've never seen another character on tv that is so certain of his actions that he does it with such justification. This is what I call a perfect character. Yes, his character is a horrible person but you gotta admit, his character is an amazing antagonist. You dont have to like Ben as a person. But everyone likes him because he is the ultimate manipulator. His playing of "the game" so to speak is on another level. The only one on the show up until this point to truly throw him for a loop has been John Locke. And it is because John was kept alive for so long and because the island chose him over Ben that Ben chooses to kill him. I remember people complaining that Jack was starting to grow a beard in this episode (Meaning that seeing John again *wasn't* the reason for his downward spiral). @rxtsec15 жыл бұрын
Episode 4 1 before he ran into locke he told Hurley he was thinking about growing a beard
@Windupchronic5 жыл бұрын
My interpretation was always that Jack was already having doubts, and was also wracked by guilt over leaving people behind, particularly once he found out Claire was his sister. That had to mess him up, knowing he'd left his own family behind, and had no idea what happened to her. It's not fleshed out on the show, but, just on a human level, and especially for such a control freak as Jack, that he had saved himself but left others behind, people that he cared about, is something that would eat away at him. The strength of his reaction is overcompensation for the gnawing in his breast that Locke is right; and if Locke is right, that would mean Jack made a mistake that he's done nothing to correct, and he's projecting his anger at himself outward towards Locke. Again, this is just my head canon, my analysis. It's not something the show directly addresses. But I think it's a human reaction.

LOST season 5 answers guide: 1. The exit point off the island was in that desert. 2. Charles tried to remove or banish Ben in order to have John lead, because he was mad at Ben about banishing him in the first place. 3. Revelation that Ben lied again to Jack in the plane about seeing Locke. 4. The role of the others is revealed in this episode and that is that they were protecting the island and helping or listening to Jacob. 5. The people were moving through time not the island. The island moved when Ben turned the wheel to another location like Eloise said. So Ceasar and the group were in present day 2007 three years after Ben moved the island.

*sigh* Here's my requisite anti-Suraj screed. And he was particularly egregious this episode: Again, I enjoy the real and raw reactions of the ladies when they're on their own and paying closer attention because of it. I like when they try working things out and talking things through. So I take issue with Suraj's presence, not because of his presence itself, but because of the nature of his mansplanation. While he's become better about avoiding major spoilers, he tends to chime in with tidbits that he assumed the ladies didn't catch and he always tries connecting dots FOR THEM, often doing so before they are able to voice it or demonstrate that they've connected the dots on their own. If he could be more like Nahid on Breaking Bad, of course I'd have no objection. But at this point, it's almost like he's constitutionally incapable of restraining himself. He has to blurt out details of the stuff he knows and he sometimes says too much. 3:23 Here, Suraj explains that the "other island" is off in the distance. Not a spoiler, I know. But why not let THEM react to it (or not react to it). Why not let them recall the "two islands" on their own and wonder which one these survivors are on? What was the purpose of this particular mansplanation? Why blurt anything out here and intervene in their viewing experience? 6:44 Here Suraj decides to mansplain the very scene that unfolded before them. He points out the Widmore gave John the Jeremy Bentham name (in case the ladies didn't see what just happened right in front of them). Again, why chime in here at all? What's with that instinct to blurt a play-by-play? 7:14 Now here's a little telling exchange that I know people will think I'm blowing out of proportion (and fair play to them). But When speculating on John possibly taking some drug to fake his death, Nikki jokes "like Nikki and Paulo?" which Rana IMMEDIATELY gets and laughs along to but to which Suraj replies, "oh, the paralysis spider?" Obviously, this is innocuous on its face. But what kind of person responds like that? Rana didn't. She recognized the joke and responding accordingly by laughing along. She didn't have an inclination to differentiate between drugs intentionally designed to fake one's death vs. naturally-occurring phenomenon that achieved the same effect. She didn't feel a need to add detail. It's this instinct to add detail of the nuances of HIS show that makes him seem incapable of watching alongside them without intervening. If I didn't know better, I'd swear he started off trying to correct Nikki's recollection that they took such a drug before realizing she knew exactly what was what and made a fun joke of it. But just in case, she had to be reminded that there were venomous spiders involved. 7:56 Here, Suraj connects more dots for them. This is before either girl questioned the timeline about Sayid's assassin "career". And I contend that despite Nikki asking for clarification after his intervention, she and Rana would've come to that conclusion ON THEIR OWN if allowed to be left to their own devices. I mean, why not leave them to their own devices to notice the things they notice? Why add all these details? I personally didn't need someone to break these things down for me during my real-time watch. And Rana certainly didn't seem to be struggling with it here. But regardless, Suraj had to mansplain the details. 9:29 Here, in response to Rana's natural reaction of finding the prospective reunion between Locke and Walt heartwarming, Suraj mansplains the deep connection that they shared in season 1. He had to make sure Rana was moved by that moment for the right reasons. She had to be reminded of that bond so her "feels" were based on proper memory of the show. Now, to anyone thinking this wasn't a mansplanation, do they really think Suraj would've made the same comment if re-watching with someone else who had also seen the series? 10:06 Rana is enjoying the moment wanting the touching scene to last longer. Suraj to the rescue. He mansplains the "practical" reason why Locke was willing to part ways and didn't ask Walt to go back to the island. Certainly, neither Rana or Nikki could've concluded that Locke consciously made the decision not to ask Walt back to the island. BUT HERE'S THE WORST PART OF IT: Suraj jumped in with his mansplanation before the writers had a chance to broach the potential gravity of the situation. Seconds after Suraj mansplains why Locke didn't broach the topic with Walt, we have the scene between Locke and Abaddon where Abaddon questions this very decision. In fact, it's not far fetched to assume that Suraj himself may not have come to the realization that Locke was supposed to ask Walt until AFTER he saw the subsequent exchange between Locke and Abaddon. So why rob the ladies of that moment where they could process "Oh, that's right! Walt was supposed to go back too? Aww, Locke put Walt's well being ahead of that mandate". Why not let them have that? And, more importantly, why not let the writers present the dot (or present that dot anew) before connecting it for the ladies? 13:22 Here, Suraj interjects, "what are the odds?" This is before the ladies had a chance to process anything. BUT HERE'S THE WORST PART OF IT: This is before the show itself had made clear that it was a "random" crossing of paths. This is before Locke mouthed the writers' words (13:58), "Of all the hospitals they could've brought me to, I end up here. You don't think that's fate?" HERE'S where the writers wanted the viewers to ask themselves, "Oh my god, what are the odds?" They didn't expect any viewer (at least any first-time viewer) to wonder this as soon as Locke opened his eyes and saw Jack. And in the bigger picture, this "innocuous" contribution of his was actually informed by a certain "through-line" the Lost writers had woven throughout the rest of the series. Of course, a veteran viewer would be more sensitive to it. His instinct to direct them to that dot (the odds of the random occurrence) trumped his memory of the scene. He was steering them to notice the "randomness" of that event before they, as real-time viewers, were supposed to notice the randomness of that event. 17:35 Here, Suraj is connecting the dots of Ben learning about Jin and later manipulating Sun with it. Did the ladies connect it on their own? Would they have connected it on their own. Suraj to the rescue. He renders that moot. I low-key wonder if Suraj said such things like, "Oh, Olenna's is playing with the necklace Ser Dontos asked her to wear. I wonder why." And I honestly wouldn't put it past him. 19:08 Now back to the present! Thanks, Suraj. This guidance makes your presence worth it. Oh, I know it's inconsequential because the ladies would recognize this immediately. But it's better that you follow your instinct of providing details, any detail. And again, would he add this comment during a re-watch with a fellow Lost veteran? 20:00 After the episode, Suraj takes a different tact from other Sherpa guides on other Lost reaction channels. Instead of asking questions and eliciting thoughts from the newbie reactors, Suraj decides to summarize what they saw for them. 24:51 So here, Nikki and Rana, the 'Reactors" who are watching the show for the first time seem to be working out the "who can come back to life on the island" question ON THEIR OWN. They seem to be arriving at their own conclusion. But Suraj to the rescue again. He doesn't wait to see if one of them correctly makes points steering the other to the "right answer". He has to be the one who mansplains them through it, even talking OVER them to do so... Talking over the first time viewers... the REACTORS. I mean, why not let them try to process that on their own without intervening in their reaction experience??? 25:33 Here, Suraj interrupts Nikki's question to make sure she understands that other folks "disappeared". WHY??? Why intervene here? Why not let them try to work it out??? 28:41 Now, here's a counter-intuitive complaint of an instance where Suraj should've spoken up. While ALL the time-travel answers are not yet available, I don't think the writers intended viewers to be as confused as Nikki is at this point. One thing Suraj could have (or should have done), is to correct her misunderstanding. She thought Jin was jumping along at a different time line than Sawyer and co. and that he eventually caught up when the "different" time lines synced. Suraj should've explained to her that they were all in the same timelines but on different parts of the island. Why? Because the storyline will not revisit this point AND her misunderstanding is adding to her confusion and inability to understand how the time travel aspects of the Lost universe works. I know it sounds like I'm fixating. I'm not. Yes, I'm obviously taking time to delineate details of certain moments. But I'm not looking out for them. These mansplanations have become like nails on a chalkboard, like hearing someone butcher grammar. Or perhaps a better explanation is this. Sometimes, when listening to any newscaster talk, you happen to catch the rhythm of their inhalations. This is something that occurs for every broadcaster in every broadcast. When not attuned, you hear the smooth reading of the news. But when you happen upon the rhythm, each "subtle" gasp of air becomes grating.

Pretty pathetic how much you're obsessed over a dude enjoying a TV show with his friends. If he bothers you that much, nothing stops you from not watching these videos. Also, get that feminazi shit "mansplaining" and such outta here. You're embarrassing yourself.

I was just wondering if Nikki has seen many time travel movies. I feel like if you've seen a few, you start to get the hang of how things work. I bet she might like "Somewhere in Time". (hehe - now I'm looking forward to see her reaction to a certain conversation between Hurley and Miles...)
