They've been through so much, I saw the on the hobo walk in Gatlinburg. These two are unreal, I gave a $100 note listening to terrible and true. After rapping with Todd in the middle of the Monongahela river. He was writing a song or lyrics on a big rock, as the river was rising. It's been some years since this event took place. I yelled out "Hey yer 12 string is about to go down the river, he said thank you kindly for the warning but I know this river, it ain't going no where. He told me his name, and I dismissed him for a fool, letting a $500 12 string fender,(if I recollect) be claimed by that river. The water never touched his instrument, and he continued writing in his worn book. I offered him a toke off my spliff, which we shared. He said, "Thank you friend, you ain't from round here are ya". I said "nope wish I was". He told me his name and said" well I best be off, gotta catch a train to get to Colorado". He waded through the water grabed his 12 string with his notebook in his armpit and disappeared above the hollar cut out. 3-5 years later i found him here... so awesome. What were you traveling to Colorado for, i asked. He said" Love, brother, what else"?.... I often wonder if he remembers that interaction....i do

@Gzus70 maybe he remembered it so well because that is a very strange dynamic of the interaction with a total stranger. Something like that would stand out in my memory. So before you get snarky and start creating justification of why you’re right maybe try just TRY to justify how they could be right and see if it makes sense then. An interaction like that would stand out starkly from other simple interaction and definitely something i would remember. Maybe you too.

This song! Whenever I realize I’ve stopped noticing my heart breaking over losing my son I listen to this song.y broken heart is always there. It will never go away. I just can’t explain it. I good days and bad days. The good days are not good because when remember my son was stolen from me by a strangers bullet I not only break again but hate myself for any happiness I let myself experience. People that have never lost a child will say you have to move on and he would want me to be happy. Yes he would. But moving on? There is no moving on! There is only staying alive for your other children. And just staying alive while forgetting about the broken heart that will never heal brings the most painful guilty feeling a human can experience. This song makes me feel right back at home where I belong. Right in that broken life with a broken heart. #justiceforbrae

@d3adc0ps6 жыл бұрын
I stumbled across one of Ben's solo videos (Using Again, I think) about a year ago and I immediately thought of Townes. It felt like all the air got sucked out of the room. To think that someone would come anywhere near THAT level of songwriting was nonsense, I thought. So I kept listening...and listening...and listening. Ben is able to create these songs that seem...simple, I guess (for lack of a better word) at a glance or from a distance. But once you pay attention you realize that there are layers upon levels of masterful poetry. And then you realize that at the center of the whole thing is this nugget of real, true hopelessness with gravity like a black hole in your heart. ^That is exactly what I love about TVZ's songs & what made him the greatest songwriter of all time, IMO. After seeing so much of what Ben puts into his songs, I don't hesitate for a second to put him right up there with the absolute best (Guy, Townes, Prine, Kristofferson, etc.). Now my mission is to show these songs to anyone who will shut the fuck up long enough to hear them... Speaking of shut the fuck up, sorry for the long reply...
@j.dlawhon44736 жыл бұрын
Utah Fitz Good response, I try to show some of my friends these songs but they never understand them. Most kids my age listen to nothing but the fucking radio. About a year ago I found Tyler Childers and it led me to find a lot of folk music and such. The first Townes song I ever heard was waiting round to die. I knew after I listened to that song that he was something special and that I would be listening to him for the rest of my life. I’m really glad I found him. And about 8 months ago I hear Ben sing The Mountain and I couldn’t stop listening to them straight for like 3 weeks. Same thing with Townes.

Ballad of A Broken Man Lyrics I got a letter on a cold lonesome morning Said you ain't half the man you were When I called you my friend I swore by you like an oath You burn the sails to your own boat And said bon voyage, adios We all break a promise or two Only got so many years to live for that excuse It’s a long hard road and a lonely moon Its giving up and it’s no use Sorrows deeper than the ocean Fills the rivers and the seas Joy's as empty as a bottle At least when she’s been thru with me And I’m calling from the well A broken man with time to kill Can you hear me Can you hear me I caught that train, always been a hard luck man Tend to walk away from things I don't understand It’s always one step closer 'til the end I’m always broken and never bent And I lament Lose it all at the end of the race Everything you love will soon return to the place I dreamt of your hand clasped in mine Walking thru the ashes of all time I said I love you Then you died Sorrows deeper than the ocean Fills the rivers and the seas Joy's as empty as a bottle At least when she’s been thru with me And I’m calling from the well A broken man with time to kill Can you hear me Can you hear me I got a letter on a cold lonesome morning Said you ain't half the man you were When I called you my friend I swore by you like an oath You burn the sails to your own boat And said bon voyage, adios
