I actually think that Nott is the parent, but she knows she has to portray herself as a sibling in need of protection in order to bring Caleb out of his haunted mindset. She's nurturing his need to help someone so he gains confidence and becomes a stronger wizard. It's Nott's way of helping him get over his demons without him realizing. At least that's what I think. She's basically being whatever he needs at that moment without suffocating him since he's been alone for so long.

Personally had it been me my instinct would be the same as Molly's: don't touch this thing with a ten foot pole. Matt knows what plot hooks the players are likely to bite on and plans accordingly, obviously, but in character I can't imagine playing any character that would see this as worth getting involved in. I remember a few episodes later Vex was making fun of the 'what's my mother's name' line and Travis (not Grog) had to briefly explain what Scanlan truly meant behind his questions Funny how most of the characters antagonized the character then and did so again here. I personally believe Tal's characters especially tried hard here and there to sound the most intelligent one in the room and both times they failed spectacularly (he went as far as to metagame twice and make up some bullsht excuses just to give the false impressions that Percy was right all along. I dislike that he was never called out for it in-game at least) I don't mind tension and mistrust between team members, it all makes sense to clash. First time viewer, please don't ruin this for me in the replies. I love how the revelation of Nott and Caleb's relationship here adds so much more context toward what we've already seen in these past 12 episodes. While it is very mutual, the aspect of Nott checking in and asking permission of Caleb comes across as a mother being mindful of the boundaries of their son. Her asking if he's okay to venture on his own, her asking if she wants him to come with him, her asking if he needs gold/giving him gold whenever; it's like a mom listening carefully to her child's wishes but also being willing to step in. Of course she has her own needs and "itches" to satisfy, but she's always mindful of Caleb's opinions and respects them. (Just wanted to share my thoughts. Sorry if anyone is gonna reply but I'm gonna mute the replies on this because I love you Critters but I don't trust y'all when it comes to spoilers)

Nott's reveal about being Caleb's protector so heavily pulses with Sam and Liam's friendship in the background. To remain spoiler free: towards the end of campaign 1, a very honest and touching emotional moment happened, demonstrating the intense love these two have for each other. And though Sam's character Scanlan would have had believable motivation to do the things Scanlan wanted, it was Sam in the driver's seat, thinking about what that moment could have meant for Liam. Something similar happens here, where the relationship between the two is portrayed, at least partially, through their characters. It's just heart-warming to watch.

@@jacobw.6744 SPOILERS for C1 During C1 Liam's character Vax died and was reborn as the champion of the Raven Queen, he came back to the group to help defeat the BBEG but once the crisis was over he was going to have to return to death/undeath in the service of the Raven Queen. Sam's character Scanlan had access to the Wish spell but I believe only had one use of it left, he had planned to use the final cast of it at the end of the fight to free Vax from servitude to the Raven Queen so he could return to life. However towards the end of the fight the BBEG was about to escape via a portal spell (iirc) and Sam had to use Scanlan's last high level spell slot to counterspell the BBEG so they could defeat him (the BBEG was a world ending threat so couldn't let them get away). Sam clearly didn't want to lose his opportunity to save Liam's character but he had to do it or the entire campaign could have ended in failure, he basically broke down in tears because preventing the BBEG's escape meant that he couldn't save Liam's character. I can't recall which episode it was but it was right near the end of C1, you should be able to find one of the many clips of it by searching for a combination of Vax, Scanlan, Liam and/or Sam, be warned if you're an emotional person because it'll hit you pretty hard in the feels, hell I'm getting a bit choked up just remembering it while typing this.

One of my favorite all-time moments in CritRole. Sam is just stunning: NOTT: There's a bit of a misconception here FJORD: OK? NOTT: Caleb and I have a very special relationship. It is that of a parent and a child. But *I* am the parent. (Liam smiles warmly. Everyone else just looks shocked.) NOTT: You do understand that? I protect HIM. He's MY boy, and I keep HIM safe. Normally Fjord and Molly have the moral high ground, but I full heartedly agree with Caleb and Nott this time. Is anyone going to point out that they were willing to KILL Caleb for taking that scroll case? When they dressed up as the High Rector and so many other things that were obviously worse? Their characters argument was BS and the players themselves knew it. They were just as excited about the scrolls as Sam. I must admit, it was a little frustrating to see the “good guys” of the group holding a sword to Caleb for a stupid reason.

@@calvinjohnson6242 Their arguments were definitely a biased unhealthily to caution that had long been thrown out the window. But honestly, I think that was intentional. Sometimes when you play a character, you KNOW they will think something that you will disagree with. As much as the players Travis and Marisha want to know what was in the scroll, Fjord is cautious occasionally to a fault and Beau doesn't like taking falls for other people.

Joseph Ralloma I know that. It was a good role playing scene. That’s why I said that the players knew that their argument was BS. This is something I realized after I commented that, but I will say that Marisha looked actually offended when Knott said that the group didn’t trust them to Caleb.

Calvin Johnson not to be a Marisha hater cause there’s already enough of them, but Beau wasn’t even in the room when Caleb tried to take the scrolls. Not gonna lie, I'm siding with Nott on the whole argument in the tavern. Molly, Fjord, and especially Beau have questioned every little detail that Caleb and Nott have done. Every time they want something or try to do something for themselves, they're immediately put under the microscope. All that stuff about trust and how they need to trust the group: Why would they trust a group who constantly shows no trust to them?

My problem with the whole thing is that Jester, Beau and Fjord do stuff that will potentially get them jailed or in trouble quite a bit (Jester, more so later) but everyone passes it off as "oh well" or "when I do selfish acts, deal with it". The others really do seem like high school bullies who pretend to be friends with a meek little nerd to feel superior or better about their own insecurities while taking advantage of them/ their talents. Do as I say not as I do and, with the exception of Beau, treat NPCs better than people in their party, even drow assassins (which are scary children's story baddies in nearly every realm). Caleb has done some shifty stuff (and Nott) but no more than the others. I expected Fjord to see this better than he has, maybe its payback for the way Grogg was taken advantage of because of his intelligence. Oh well! I still love the show and everyone on it. This is as close to a soap-opera as I will ever get. I don't know many people who I have played with that would be able to keep their emotions in check during the accusation scene. I have a lot of respect for the whole crew to keep it in character and not start yelling at each other. I need to find a group like this! Sam, you are a saint! ...a dirty minded saint.... haha

@justanotherguy5602 жыл бұрын
@@Teh_SiFL it kind of makes sense for these characters though. The M9 are a rag tag group of vagrants, criminals and outcasts, so of course they’re all selfish and have different philosophies. Canonically, they haven’t even spent a lot of time with each other. They spent a few days at the first town and were basically forced to work together out of convenience. After that, they spend half a day on the road before they make it to all field, where they then sleep and complete a mission. After that, they spend a few hours on the road before they finally make it to zadash where they currently are. So all in all, they’ve been with each other for maybe 3-4 weeks, so of course they don’t know everything and have a few misconceptions. Now take into consideration that they’re only really sticking together because there’s money in it. They’re thieves and outcasts, they can’t trust people outside of their circle, so they need to make sure that their circle is trustworthy enough. And in the first few days of entering zadash, nott has tried to steal from fjord twice. Hell, it was nott that activated the carpet. So I’d say it’s fair that they’re irked and want to speak to nott. Now, this is where the differing philosophies come in. The players aren’t trying to enforce their ideals on nott, these are the characters speaking from their experiences. Molly ran with the carnival, so he believes that if you can’t trust those outside of your group, you should be able to rely on and trust your group. Beau worked mostly alone from what I gathered. So she relied less on trusting the individual, and more on trusting their sense of self preservation would deter them from going behind their colleague’s back. Two very different ways of thinking, but it kept them alive, so they believe they’ve got it right. P.S. Molly and beau are awesome

Travis at 34:00 with his "did you hear that important detail?" Just had me rolling on the ground laughing. He became a Dad before the baby came. XD

The nein performing a heist they’ve been planning for three sessions: disaster. Shitshow The nein stealing an extremely powerful magical object from a group of crownsguard WHILE surrounded by a crowd, ON THE FLY: barely a fucking HITCH

i think the reason being that the obvios heist is pre planed by Matt and the on the fly not leading to more points of failure in the pre planned

I think Fjord was initially correct in telling them to leave the scrolls. I also think Nott was right to go back and fetch it after things went south. But I think Molly and Beau were very hypocritical and wrong. (The characters not the players.)

Yeah they were hounding nott and caleb about almost jeopardizing the mission. They literally just let the High Richter waltz right in catching the party.

@@sleep5153 yes, but it's their CHARACTERS that are saying it. When you mess up bad in real life you dont say "it was a bad roll", to their characters, they just let her in.

Matt's reaction to the barkeep getting a gold is how every townsfolk should react to the usual "Adventurers giving out gold as tips to people who make coppers"

Yeah, making a couple weeks of wages in the span of a short conversation should affect anyone.
@dzioooooАй бұрын
@@DwiteLoot Let's not exaggerate, 1gp is the daily expenses of a person living a modest lifestyle. An unskilled laborer can make that in 5 days, and a skilled one (like the owner of a tavern) makes 2gp per day. It's definitely a significant amount of money for most NPCs the players meet, but it's not a "shocked silence and tearful gratitude" kind of money.

What makes this better is him literally facepalming while Marisha STILL grabbed a handful of dice. Parenting is hard.

I believe Caleb's dream was meant to be the further inspection Matt was pushing for in the sewers, but then he made it work when Caleb went to sleep with it. I was thinking he messed up when he said Nott was sleeping next to Caleb, but Sam went with it perfectly. Such good improv from these guys.
