The Robinson's decide to take the Jupiter 2 and get the hell off this alien dumpster world.
Too many alien vikings, knights, IDAKS, dragons, pirates, & floating green girls have taken their toll.
It's time to head for outer space...until they crash again!

The model was attached to cables and filmed taking off and landing. They didn't have CGI in 1965. So to hide the cables was great feat at the time. Filming in canyons made it actually looking like crash landings and takoffs from alien planets. The island in the sky episode was an initial crash landing that still looks impressive given it was 1965 technology

I agree about the sounds. If you think in terms of retro future alternative evolving realities, the Allen reality (pop satira put apart) is more human, more mundane, in a certain sense it is much more realistic than the Roddenberry's reality -- which is a much more dated simulacrum of real (Soviets versus Americans and UN Federation versus Klingon etc). Star Trek is a fabula (fable) aiming some moral and Lost in Space is a fairy tale aiming nothing in particular, nothing moral most of time and nothing truly new about the (and supposed well known) ultimately human soul. This video is a little more realistic showing the power and speed needing to be maintained for quite a while to reach escape velocity in order to be free from a planet’s gravity. Often we would see that as soon as space is visible, you are “free”. Mr. Allen often threw out already known scientific facts in favor of drama, (like comets giving off heat like a sun hurtling through space like a flying sun, or supernovas flying through space like a comet)!! I still ate it up as a kid and loved it when they went back to space travel in season 3!!!

WONDERFUL! ... The original series had mostly lousy infantile plots, but it was spot-on in it's main, terrific theme, and which one film and two remakes failed to understand and capture: the Jupiter 2 was a cozy, thrilling, snug-under-the-blanket Winnebago-like camping ride with family and friends through the Galaxy!! .. Even the clumsy WOKE creators of the recent Netflix redux were totally clueless as to this joyful camping charm of the original, but instead gave us dysfunctional characters and a ghastly-looking Jupiter 2 that looked like a cold, lame thermostat dial! ... Please re-do LiS and don’t fret about incidental scientific and technical inaccuracies - allow the child-fantasies in all of us fill in these gaps! … Who doesn't fantasize, late on a rainy night, under the blankets, being with family and friends in the original Jupiter 2 visiting wonderful worlds through the galaxy?!

I am with you, the Jupiter 2 does need to be a bit larger so as to visually contain all that stuff - but keep it's overall shape and it's CAMPER features. ... because, as you allude to, it gives a warm family and friends comfort feeling! ... They should RE-DO LiS and don't let WOKE touch it!, and please, writers, don't feel awkward about possible technical and even scientific gaps - Just, PLEASE, allow the child in all of us fans to participate in filling in these gaps with our wonderlust fantasies.

You can also see the smoke going backwards toward the "volcano" because the scene is played backwards (ship originally sliding downwards) also passing by the same rocks 3-4 times! G forces also a mystery, must be going around 60mph max😅 best they can do to the limitations of the effects of that time (and budget) better effects obviously existed, take for example space Odyssey 2001 of the same era.

The Jupiter 2 is closest to the "Sport Model" Bob Lazar talked about. Take off would be much quicker, silent and the occupants would not feel any acceleration at all. Time for A51 to make everything public domain so we can build lots of real life Jupiter 2's, only better.

When the Robinsons land on Earth in the early 30 s, their ship is mistaken for a flying saucer. And when u look at it today, it still looks like a flying saucer.

When it was announced they were making a Lost in Space movie 20 years ago I was hoping it would be in the same spirit of the 60s tv series. The movie was a disappointment

0:52 You knew it was almost over for this show when they introduced "The Bloop" as a character. I couldn't stand that thing!

That's just a reversal of the original crash scene. Somehow it doesn't look right with the ship going in the wrong direction.

The early part of the lift off looked like they used the landing of the Gemini II landing sequence in reverse.

Are these the original effects? They are pretty good for that time on a Tv show. It looks like they were improved. Does anybody know wich episode was that?

The angular climb segment is identical to the footage used for the crash landing in season 1. episode 4 (but played in reverse and in the original color footage).

PS, I love the way, in which the Jupiter 2 reaches escape velocity, that some of the 'stars' appear IN FRONT of the spacecraft! Lol

I am not going to pretend these effects hold up today, but I would rather watch this than much of the lame CGI people throw together nowadays.
