I love this character. He made the show and as a child forced my vocabulary to improve. I looked up his wide vocabulary and insults as a kid. As an adult, I still know what the words mean.

All the compilations of screams from Dr. Smith are quite hilarious, but in was never explained why did he scream when the Jupiter 2 lifted off from Earth. The spaceship began to glow just before lift off and there is a sound of static electricity within the space ship just before Dr. Smith's first scream on the show, while the Robinson Family and Major West were in a state of suspended animation . Some Lost in Space fan site stated it was because of the anti-gravity drive used during lift off, but was never mention in the 83 episodes. Jonathan Harris was indeed a Great and Wonderful Character Actor. RIP Mr. Harris.
@cryptoxenologist4 жыл бұрын
It was the g-forces he experienced during lift off. You gotta understand, this show was way before science explained a lot of stuff. At the end of the day it’s all physics.
@ellexking6814 жыл бұрын
@@cryptoxenologist I strongly have to disagree with you on this one😆 There's kind of a sound of electrical sound or also the sound can be described as cold water being poured in a very hot skillet giving of that sizzling sound but at a very high pitch just before he lets out his very first scream After he unstrapped himself from the Space Couch and Stood up, He wasn't feeling to well, Almost falling to the floor. He felt some serious pain at lift off and I think for him not being in the Space Couch may have killed him. Listen for that sound I mentioned just before he screams next time you watch The Reluctant Stowaway. It happens right after the final count of 0. According to the Lost in Space fan website, The Anti-Gravity Drive produced 250 mega watts of power also something about the humming sound that started just as Dr. Smith was fully strapped in the Space Couch was part of the Anti-Gravity Drive. With each rotation of the Fusion Core produced a Magnetic Field Giving off the glow around the Jupiter 2 at 100% full power at lift off to escape Earth's Gravity. This is all according to that LIS Fan Site. If I remember the Space Shuttle, even the Space X Rocket pulls some pretty major G'S when leaving Earth's Gravity. 7 to 8 G'S When Mission Control are communicating with the Astronauts as they're climbing into space, You don't hear them screaming.🤣 I'd say what Dr. Smith felt was the energy from the Anti-Gravity Drive. Plus, The Jupiter 2 was barely off atop the Launch Cradle it was sitting on. It was probably pulling only 2 G'S at that moment.🤣The Gemini Space Program was going on around that time, And the Late Astronaut John Glen was the 1st American to Walk in Space. He wasn't screaming at lift off.🤣

There was so much creativity in the design of the spaceships in season plus some of the aliens. The results put a lot of Star Trek's effects to shame.
@superstrangevideo10 жыл бұрын
Star Trek was a far more expensive show and technically far more accurate in terms of what might actually come to pass. Exactly what effects on Lost In Space put Star Trek to shame? You bumped your head...HARD : )

Not to mention Star Trek came AFTER Lost in Space, kinda like a wannabee, but still successful and great series
@ewaf8810 жыл бұрын
superstrangevideo Actually in series one of Star Trek due to budget limitations we didn't see some of the spacecraft (Charlie X both his 'parents' and the Antares. We didn't see the Gorn ship and others we're represented as just points of light on the view screen, I do like Star Trek (probably more than LIS) but many of the aliens were humanoid and ships (except The Fesarius and Enterprise itself) were very standard looking.. The spaceships in LOS especially the one featured in 'Invaders from the 5th Dimension' looked far more off Worldly.

Season one Smith was the best, when he was transforming from an evil character into a comical clown! After that, it got very repetitive. Still funny, though! I can’t think of a single other character who was able to milk those hysterical cowardly screams the way he did. No one did it like Smith. On the other hand, when they focused the entire show around him, it ruined the original show I loved!

This is funny as hell. When I watched the show as a kid on reruns in the early 70’s, Dr. Smith would annoy me. I found him very irritating, especially when he would grab Will and put him in front of him like a shield. But as time went on, I saw the humor in his pompous, high-falooting, eccentric, cowardly manner. Now I get a kick out of the lady-in-distress-screams. No wonder Major West hated his guts.

It is easy -- and appropriate -- to laugh at Dr. Smith's screaming histrionics. But I think it's important to realize that, given how laconic all the other characters were, Dr. Smith bore all the weight of conveying the direness of any situation.
