Larry Stevenson, I'm 60 and you took the words out of me, in fact as kid back in the day the series was premiering, like every Wednesday evening broadcasting I recall my brother and I hurrying to finish eating our dinner and then go charging into the living room to catch it on TV. But as you say those were fun days hands down....And what's more, considering the lifestyle back in those days was nothing to compare with today, like there were no such things as VCR's, DVD players, Personal Computers etc. those were the days it had kind of a more challenging kind of excitement as in many of us boys back then would be hurrying home from school to tune into many other good TV series alike. And also those were the days when in the evenings you had the whole family in the living room watching TV.

Space was an obsession in the 60s, from auto designs to entertainment. We were sure we'd be flying, not driving by 2000. Here it is 2022, and the only thing that has changed is that you can make a right turn at a red light.

Definitely. I was in the same boat, but starting in the late 70's for me. I watched all these shows as reruns back then. This is what got me involved in astronomy. To this day, I'm still watching these shows on MeTV and still go out with my telescope and look at the stars, and a lot of other stuff as well.

It seems like there was a whole TV trope revolving around astronauts vs.Ignorant hillbillies. "I Dream of Jeanie" had another episode like that, and some other shows of the late-1960's did too. I wish I could compile a whole list of these types of episodes.

This is the first time I have seen an interview with the performers behind the robot character, Bob May and Dick Tufeld (voice). It is refreshing to see they were enthusiastic about their roles and worked together with mutual respect.
@Geezer-yf8hv
@Geezer-yf8hv Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it seemed rather difficult. They did all their initial dialogue with Bob doing the voice of Robot, but was all dubbed in later with Dick’s voice. That Dick Tufeld voice is one of my fond memories I always associate with the show, also as the narrator in the early years! The Robot was definitely a 2 man team that became one of the favorite characters of the show!

Loved Lost In Space. There was an innocence offered but also it offered the exciting opportunity of what potentially existed out there. For a six year old kid it was amazing. That was followed up by Star Trek. What a time for a young kid. Plus Marta Krista made this young Male realize there was something special about females lol.

Back in the late 70's when I was a kid, I loved the show so much I wouldn't miss a single episode, even though it was just reruns by that time. I absolutely hated Dr. Smith, but then again, if that's what his character was supposed to do, he was one heck of a great actor. Nearly 50 years later, Lost In Space is part of the Sci-Fi Saturday night lineup starting at 7pm with a full hour of The Three Stooges, Svengoolie, Batman (1966), Star Trek, Kolchak, and then Lost In Space starting at 1am. Amazing all the time & effort it took to produce this show. Friday's used to be my favorite day of the week. However, over the past several years now it's been Saturday during "Sci-Fi Saturday nights on MeTV. I set up my vintage 17' lava lamp & Fantasia Sunburst 4000 and run those from 7pm until the conclusion of Lost In Space at 2pm. Channeling that generation Lost In Space.

I; as a kid growing up in the 70's, loved watching "Lost In Space". It was my little escape from reality. I'm only sorry it didn't last longer than just 3 years it was in production... or that it couldn't give ALL the characters, more in the way more juicier roles, and more for the spaceship. Otherwise I really loved it! To this day, I still love it! My love and admiration to the cast, crew and the production artist here, and gone from us!!! BRAVO!👍🏽

@ Maples01; Maybe it's just me, and my bias against the feature film, and made for T.V. remake, the destruction of the original Jupiter 2, that just killed it for me! I was born in 1964... I was even fortunate enough to even have my father watch the show with me from time to time. I have so many memories growing up during the 60's, and 70's. This show was my escape! *I especially love the all the essentials; Spaceship, Space Pod, Chariot, and The Robot. #OriginalLostInSpace4Ever!♥️

On that very first show of "Lost in Space", that show when I grew up born in 1965 when they show on television and that's why I was only 5 years old watching the show and it was the greatest television shows of all time.

I loved Lost in Space. I however have always been disappointed that Dr. Smith was given the opportunity to take over. The orginal storyline of a family in space using their wits was far more interesting than the comedic direction. Originally John, Maureen, Don and the children were the stars. The lovely relationship between the parents and children were much more interesting than leaving science for bubble headed booby comedy. I so enjoy the original episodes that were the pilot of the show. The spaceship, the sounds, the excitement was all there. The music, the location shots! Amazing.

You were not the only person disappointed that Jonathan Harris' character of Dr. Smith took over the show. Harris admitted, during an interview, that Guy Williams, who was cast as the lead, grew very upset with being upstaged by Harris. As Harris mentioned in the interview Williams was smart enough to stay on the show and take the money; despite his role being reduced significantly. I personally grew tired of the show after it went from 'Lost in Space' to the Dr. Smith / Robot Comedy Hour.

It started as a good sci-fi and turned into the smith/robot comedy hour.

@@markgiardina1303 .. "Yes indeed my dear boy" On a serious note tho' Zachary Smith started out as a scene stealer, then went on from there with his witty bubble headed ning-kum poop comedic stupidity antics, that stole away from the original sci-fi Show, basically he was running the Series and changed so much Shit with the agree-ment/permission of the Show's Producers, that lead to a lot of us Fans to Go watch something else, M.A.S.H was just starting out at the time I think and that was a real Comedy Show and a Great change .. .

I also agree that Harris would ruin the show with his upstagin antics with the robot. It became inpossible to find any drama in the stories once he became the Don Knotts type character with his robot sidekick. Its not even like it was original, it became more like Barney Fife or Gilligan go into space. Characters like Gilligan and Barney Fife work in comedies because otherwise, we all wonder why Andy wouldn’t just get a compitent deputy or why the other cast aways didnt just kill Gilligan within 2 weeks of being stranded? They were comedies, so we accept that without the comic releif, there is no show. Dr.Smith on the other hand is a different story since LIS began as a dramatic Sci-fi series and his character was dark. Jonathon knew this too and knew they would have to kill off his original character to stay dramatic and believable. In deep space with no witnesses, they didnt even have to make it look accidental, evn though that would be easy to do in space. Irwin Allen allowed him to turn it into a super campy drama/comedy for Harris’ job security. I cant believe that Allen let him do that.

Agreed- If it weren't for Dr. Smith's antics, there would be no show. How many times did the Robinson's or Don need to save him, even if it meant problems for them?
