I know these days, like you said, most people organise themselves and plan exactly what they need to do and where to go before arriving in a big city like Tokyo, but I love the way you arrived and just started working it out. I feel like seeing and experiencing it all like you are is very refreshing. Back in 1992, before internet, my husband and I arrived on a Thursday to start our 2 years there. While we did have one gentleman from the company my husband worked for, take us homeware shopping on that first day, it was up to us to work out the rest. We spent Friday grocery shopping in our neighbourhood just like you did. On the Saturday and Sunday we used the public transport to learn how to do it and for hubby to find his way to his work place. Then on Monday off he went nice and early, and for me it was the start of finding my way and making friends. All of it was absolutely fondly remembered! We have been back a couple of times and plan to have one more trip but hoping for less visitors, as it’s become such a popular destination! Enjoy exploring!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. We honestly like learning this way and it is how we had to learn before all the computers so we do have some experience with it. That’s a cool story about Japan. It’s definitely a challenge tho. Could only imagine back then!

Waaaayyy too hectic for this old fella. The fact that the Greater Tokyo City area has a population that's 1.5 times the entire Continent of Australia just blows my mind. Kudos for working things out guys, especially with carrying kids as well.

Yeah it’s pretty wild to say the least! Yeah that’s wild! Actually the state of Florida almost has the same amount of ppl as all of Australia! And thank you!

Oh my gosh, everything looks so dang cool! I need to see some vending machine footage, because I feel like I've seen so many posts/videos about all the crazy vending machines that they have there! Also, Shane go eat a slug on a stick at a street market (if that's actually a real thing) LOVE AND MISS YOU GUYS SO MUCH
@TheWickmansLife2024Ай бұрын
Yeah we have some vending machine stuff coming up for sure! They are cool, but once you’ve seen a few you’ve seen them all. Idk if I’ll eat a slug after our run in Thailand lol We love and miss you too Jack!

Find yourselves a Family Mart or Lawsons or 711 and try the onigiri's, egg sandwiches, chicken cutlets, milk teas, Pocari Sweat(for the heat).. If you want on the current trend, you put the cutlet in the egg sando. Don't knock the convenience store food, I know how it sounds coming from America, but Japan just gets it right. Have so much fun!
@TheWickmansLife20242 ай бұрын
Okay will do! We’ve heard about the Egg Sando! Thank you!
E-sim is much easier. Great adventure looked so much fun

Even with Google Map help it is not difficult to get lost in the Tokyo train system, due to its sheer size (many lines, stations, connections, etc.) and number of users, the first time. Luckily, ordinary Japanese will try to help you get back on the right train. At big stations there are stores/kiosks selling what you need; you can also ask the station attendants (in the booth next to the gates) for help.

No idea how they work, but there are E-Sims, and world sims, as for Crocs buy a pair and road test them, you might be surprised...just don't trust them on wet slippery surfaces
@TheWickmansLife20242 ай бұрын
Definitely interested in the world sim I’ll have to check that out. As for the crocs maybe we will give them a go one day!

I found that many pharmacists /chemists /drugstores in foreign countries spoke good English. They have to be able to read English to correctly dispense medicine. I was gob smacked at the 40 metro train lines in Tokyo. The map looked like spaghetti! There were only 12 lines in Seoul, and about 6 in Brisbane. If you ever want to visit Kamakura, for the big Buddha that survived a tsunami, change trains at Shinjuku then board a Yokohama train then to Kamakura. Mori Tower in Roppongi where I went offered great views of Tokyo on a clear day. Skytree built later is even higher.

2:53 Yotsuki Station in Katsushika Ward is the hometown of the author of the Captain Tsubasa manga. That’s why there was a big manga hanging at the station.

We are learning. We come from a complete different culture. If you came to the United States we wouldn't expect you to change everything you know just for a visit, but we do repect the culture and want to do our best.
