The 朝日駐在所 (Asahi Police Station) was a sub station built by the japanese around 1917 and abandoned in 1925. This station was part of an older nenggao traverse trail that connected the western side of taiwan with the eastern part. But due to too much snow in the winter it was moved further down. The lower, newer trail is known as the nenggao traverse trail. The eastern part on the hualien side of taiwan has however been abandoned in the 70s. It used to be maintained by Taipei power as the new government built a high power voltage line from the east to the west coast. The trail takes us from 天長隧道 on the 奇萊路 all the way to 朝日山.
There is a lot of hidden and lost history in the mountains of Taiwan.
The Asahi police station is a good example of Taiwan's forgotten past.
