@ssjichigo6663 жыл бұрын
no, I'm not pissed at leakers, I'm pissed at nintendo for having that corncob up their ass so far that they cancelled it out of spite, who cares if it got leaked, they should've just road the hype train and used the leak as a promotion, if it was gonna be a hit from the start, then it would've been a hit, regardless of leaked content
@Dreadjaws3 жыл бұрын
@@ssjichigo666 Nah, Nintendo is in the right here. They most likely demanded secrecy, and once they saw someone working at Netflix itself was not following procedure they realized the company was not to be trusted. This is very standard procedure, particularly when companies make deals with other companies from overseas. If you can't trust a company with such a basic task, what else can they ruin later? It's not a case of spite as much as one of professionalism. Remember that Nintendo's track record with adaptations of their work wasn't particularly great, so they were probably very cautious. Now if Nintendo was really spiteful they would have simply taken the projects to some competitor. They're just being protective of their IPs. They're certainly not worried about it being a hit as much as they are about leaving their IPs in the right hand. I do think Nintendo is overzealous most of the time when it comes to this sort of thing, but in this case they had all the right to do what they did.
@ssjichigo6663 жыл бұрын
@@Dreadjaws protecting your IP is one thing, but when your own policies cause you to miss out on huge profit and what you are protecting your IPs from would've made you profit, you might want to rethink your policies, the leaks they are protecting themselves from as I said would've increased the hype of the shows and made everyone want to watch the show, but pulling the plug before it even gets out the door is what ruined their profits, so while they are allowed to protect their IP, just dropping a project that had potential for millions or billions of dollars hurt them and their fans that were excited for it

@@Dreadjaws IDK, I can't agree with the second part of your response. You're indeed right that lack of professionalism is a serious issue. Taking from that that Nintendo's reaction was perfectly balanced and reasonable is another thing. Nintendo is a hysterical company that treats matters that should be commercial as if they were personal. (Many other companies are; I'm not singling them out. This does seem to be rather prevalent among Japanese companies, actually.) The testimony featured on the video said itself that Nintendo "freaked out". This happens all the time, too. They famously "freak out" about miniscule fan projects that are merely homage and couldn't possibly hurt their bottomline, enter the warpath, scour the surface of the Earth of everything, to the last remnants, then sue the parties involved as an example to others. They're just irrational and unobjective like that.

2017 was the year Sony Animation would not stop taking Ls: Emoji movie, The Star, Smurfs: Lost Village, Surf's up 2, and on top of that losing both the Sonic and Mario licenses to their competitors.
@mightyfilm3 жыл бұрын
It took a while for Sony to be anything near a respectable CGI movie producer, and then it blew it all by rushing Emoji Movie into production. Smurfs was poor timing looking almost EXACTLY like Dreamworks's sleeper hit Trolls in addition to the hybrid movies having the dumb "fantastic creatures... but in our world?!" concept ruining any success they could have had. But Emoji didn't need to exist. Not at all. Something tells me they knew Wreck it Ralph two was going to be based on the internet and fast tracked the project so it didn't look like they were ripping Disney off. Had it had the right script, Emoji could have been a "well, I guess I'm the jerk" surprise hit, but they favored speed over quality and became a laughing stock that not only confirmed what the internet complained about, but was worse than anyone could have imagined.

@@JoeContext Yeah, it was from a while ago but luckily I have a pretty sharp memory. It was in the pretty early stages, but there was a lot of push to make Mario less explicitly Italian. He would have a "universal" accent (which would be invented by the writing staff) and wouldn't make any of the usual references to pizza or pasta. Although the plot was never fully developed, Bowser was to be the main antagonist and Peach would have more of a role than simply being the damsel in distress. Since I wasn't super high up in the company at the time, only one of my suggestions ended up being penned in for the pitch. I wanted the movie to take place in a live action New York with the Mario cast being 3D animated, and it was a hard yes from the rest of the team. Could have been epic, but honestly I'm glad it came and went because I was later picked up for the Sonic Movie and I was responsible for his original design.

The live action Mario movie's problem wasn't exactly so much not embracing or wanting any involvement with Nintendo, but more along the lines of the directors being complete auteurs that were full of themselves and basically just making another Max Headroom style cyberpunk movie with Mario character names thrown in. Cyberpunk as in NONE of Super Mario game media ever stepped into that genre at the time and was still thoroughly a semi-medieval fairy tale world. They had NO interest in actually making a Mario movie, but were somehow roped into production and bullies their way to making the actual movie they wanted to. But by then, the production company already spent the money on the license and all the press media junkets, so they HAD to release "Generic Cyberpunk Fantasy Film #52" as Super Mario Bros. And NO ONE was happy about it.
@JT55553 жыл бұрын
the director didn't even know what mario WAS until his kid showed it to him because he was making the movie.
@mightyfilm3 жыл бұрын
They were hacks who SHOULD have been fired from day one, but I'm sure they threatened a crapload of legal action if they were to be removed from the project. You see, the thing about video game based media back then was that no one knew or cared what or who these characters were. And that's why early video game cartoons felt off. But what cartoon writers did what these movie writers didn't was that they somehow found a way to make these characters matter to them and changed just enough to make coherent programs for the kids that actually liked and knew who these guys were. The filmmakers refused to bend and forced their vision onto a project they were only associated with because I'm guessing by their behavior, no one else would want to work with them. Even if you take the Mario-ness out of the movie, you still got a C-grade Cyberpunk movie that wouldn't even be the cultiest cult film had it not been for the name. Probably wouldn't have been theatrically released.

they are staring to slip into interactive movies/shows where you choose what happens: netflix "recently" did it with the new carmen sandiego in a special called "to steal or not to steal" and you had to make choices for carmen and if you chose the wrong thing (honestly a lot easier to do than you'd think) then you can get what's basically a game over (though you get to go back and try again and winning gives you a special bonus scene that is both weird and great at the same time). but ya,interactive movies/shows are kind of the next big thing.

@@JT5555 Really? Had no clue. I never watch TV, so I wouldn’t know. Anyways, that sounds like a fad.

Charles Martine better be voicing half the cast in the mario movie. Dont go hiring actors for that shit keep it in studio. Also I think all Nintendo movie properties should be animated or atleast motion captured. Even zelda and metroid.

It really hurts, hearing all these potential projects canceled for seemingly frivolous reasons, they all sound like they could've been really cool :( Maybe if the Mario movie somehow turns out to be good, Nintendo will consider being less stingy.

I'm not even a big fan of Star Fox and I wish that show had happened.

A DiC Entertainment-made Super Mario film might have been too powerful.

The lust of what could've been is so strong that people are seriously outraged over an obviously terrible idea never coming to volition.

I think Illumination may be the wrong people for this Mario project.

There was a cancelled Metroid cartoon and though not Nintendo, there were a few cancelled Mega Man projects.
