I never found that boss challenging... I did find the kakanas tanks (the 2nd fight with the numara general) to be annoying AF because I needed to get fire proof to get through it

The only reason it's "harder" seemingly is that Lost Odyssey is a JRPG about understanding the battle system so by the time you take on the later stuff you have better stuff and a better grasp of the combat mechanics. The Bogimoray, to new readers of this old thread, is really a tutorial.

Funny thing is Lost Odyssey shares a ton in common with Shin Megami Tensei and Persona because it's about learning the combat system on a deeper level than most JRPGs. Most JRPGs, while deep mechanically speaking are geared towards the casual player at least for the main game since story is usually why casual players engage with them anyway. That's also why superbosses exist in those games; so the hardcore fans have a challenge to spice things up. Lost Odyssey is not exactly for casual noobs but it's not super mean to them either. If you're tactically minded and/or you've played the genre before, you're gonna be fine if not out right excel. SMT and Persona are the same way.

Hehe, one of them. I love how he's like, "They can't hit us if we keep moving," and he's trying to dart around and Kaim and Seth are just standing there like, "What are you doing idiot?" Jansen was definitely the right combo of comic relief and serious person when needed. He was self-centered, but gradually came around and if I remember right, he was the first Mortal to try and block the mirrors during the final battle.

I think this boss was so hard because they wanted you to know how to put antiparalysis on everyone to truly beat him. They didn't want you beating him through brute force, but to beat him through knowledge of the mechanics. Otherwise you'd never survive the game... kind of a harsh way to teach people but it made its point!! XD

I didn't put antiparalysis on everyone, only on Jansen. Killing the little guys before the Bogimoray can charge by giving Power Drinks to Seth and Kaim makes it possible to get through it without having antiparalysis.

Well the only way it'd "teach" you that was via a game-over screen. There's no way you could've known there was gonna be a boss with AoE paralyze coming up unless you were following a walkthrough. Same applied to Grilgan with its poison attack.

Honestly, that's how Lost Odyssey works and the audience it was made for. Tbh, this is something Octopath Traveler and Soulsborne games excel in: if you can't learn the mechanics snd and beat the first couple bosses, don't pick it up. Is Lost Odyssey that hard? Not really, but it's a wonderful litmus test for these kinds of RPGs. Personally, because I play these kinds of games a ton, Lost Odyssey was pretty easy. People just need to get gud. No offense.😅

I brute-forced it, Jansen had the anti-paralysis item, never touched the small guys, and went straight for the bogimooray as it is not in the back row, it takes full damage. Currently replaying the game, along with blue dragon I dropped it because my father died suddenly. It kinda represents my innocence back then, now I'm jaded. LOL look at this mess of post xD

I love how this boss is basically the game saying you can't brute force your way through everything. Oh, you managed to scrape by and kill Bogimoray? Well screw you, do it again, also his Para-Flare is fully charged, hope you found the Yellow Band or else we're gonna be here a while.

This was one of the most epic fights I had on JRPGs, I killed him in my last surviving turn with only Kaim alive with 50hp left and him being 1 turn away to cast his Para flare. I was actually prepared, had anti paralyze with everyone, the issue I had was with the little bugs that started spamming me Force which does even more damage than Bogimoray, like 300.

Surprisingly , I found It very easy and i even thought "was it really a boss" , later i discovered that it is considered as a difficult foe , i don't understand why , the most difficult boss was, for me, "persona" When I tried to beat it just after the end of the 3rd CD . I used a lot of items and at the end, the boss changed his form unpredictably and all my attacks got stupidly absorbed while the boss only had 800 HP left (or about). Then he petrified my team and i tryed to cast "no petrify" ,I thought the casting time was short enough because i read "1S" instead of "2S" but all my team got petrified while the boss had very few HP (something like 500) . I used a lot of items in the fight and it lasted at least one hour, later I crafted a better ring and the boss got killed in no time (less than 10 turns that is for sure).

@doombybbr The trick is the Yellow Bangle, or whatever it's called that negates paralysis. "Teach" negate Paralysis to your immortals and then equip it to Jenson to make them all immune. That effectivly cuts Bogimoray's throat. Paraflare's not TOO damaging if you bring up some barriers and/or level grind: paralysis is the real threat from that attack.

@doombybbr I used Seth and Kaim to gang up on one of his goons, and then had Jansen use Flare or Prism depending on my mood. It worked pretty well. The problem is that one way or another you are GOING to take at least ONE Paraflare courtesy of the second Bogimoray.

Even though I bought this game on release I'm only really delving into now 13 years later courtesy the shiny new Series X letting me play my old exclusives (and man does this game look good on it... they definitely tweaked it). Just beat the bogimorays and man does this song kick ass! NB: I only ate the one required para-flare. If you didn't stack up anti-para after the whole area leading up to it dumping anti-para goodies on you... well, that's on you 🙃

played this game recentrly..the trick to beat this boss is to find a chest with a spell to increase everyone's MDEF, it seems to last the entire battle.. more than that, choose one guy to attack the wyrm while the others keep killing some insects

Oh lawd, it mostly comes down to luck in the end. Have Seth and Kaim learn anti-paralysis and equip the yellow band on Jansen. Have Kaim and Seth focus on chopping up the bugs in the front while Jansen casts aqua on Bogimoray. Once the second one shows up either defend or heal as he'll blast you with para-flare right away. That's all I can really recommend.

Just cast two prisms one by Jansen and spam the bogimoray with aqua take out reappearing bugs as they come second bogimoray defend rinse repeat. Of course it took me about 6 or 7 long grueling battles to get that strategy.
