People always bring up the "flash forward" and "we have to go back" parts. But the biggest line that impacted me the most is Jack telling Kate that he actually closes his eyes and prays that he can get back to the island. The fact that he was the leading person trying to get people to leave the island. And he was willing to let his friends die just to make sure that he left the island. Now Jack, OF ALL PEOPLE, prays that he can get back to the island.

Though I will miss the reactions this month, I think it is good to "not rush" the experience. I sometimes think that the lack of anticipation that reactors have, because they can "binge-watch" the series, undermines the gravity of the show. Hopefully Zola, Hassan, and Audrey were chomping at the bit to begin season 4 after a two month break. It gives them a taste of what David (and many of us) went through when we had multiple months of wait after every season. Cheers gang, and see you in a month.

Another hint I actually noticed back in the day was that Jack's phone for sure is not a pre-2004 phone. Those motorola razr phones were launched in like 2005. That particular one looked a bit closer to the phones in 2007-08

So, I'm just appreciating one thing about how this episode was structured - when Jack successfully calls the freighter and they say they'll send a helicopter to pick everyone up, it appears everyone will be getting off the island very soon. BUT, as watchers of the show we probably aren't believing it and are still skeptical that they will make it off the island. After all, if they're off the island won't the show be over? But then we get the scene with Jack and Kate in the future OFF island and it confirms that at least some of them really do make it off the island. It just ups the anticipation that much more, the show telling us "No, really. They DO make it off the island." Such fun!!

Great point, the structure of that is genius. Makes it even more enjoyable on a rewatch. And just like that, the show becomes about way more than simply getting off the island.

The porthole being big enough for Charlie to swim through is both an optical illusion and artistic liberty, it has to be big enough to see Mikail holding a grenade. Normally, they aren’t big enough to swim through. Then there’s the issue of swimming to the surface from that far down, Charlie would need scuba gear and an oxygen tank… because going up too fast will result in Decompression Sickness (aka The Bends) and Charlie ends up drowning anyway.

I was really sad that Charlie died. I almost stopped watching the show because of it. But because I was already too invested into the show I decided to give it a chance and see it all the way through till the end. I’m so glad I did. I’m excited for the last three seasons! 😀

I think Ben explained well enough why Jack shouldn't make the call. John's "You're not supposed to do this." is vague, but Ben's "If you phone her boat, every single living person on this Island will be killed." seems pretty clear. He could've gone to more detail on who, why etc. but if Jack doesn't believe that everyone is gonna get killed, there's no reason for him to believe anything else Ben says. And if Jack does believe it, then it doesn't really matter who it is or why and he's not gonna make the call.

And John's "You're not supposed to do this" explanation is vague because that's probably all he knows about it. He got told by the island that he should stop the signal, and as "the man of faith" he accepted it as his mission.

I agree, if he had gone into more detail, Jack wasn't going to listen anyway. As for John, I've always wished we got to see everything Taller Ghost Walt tells him. It's a bit funny to me some people hate Locke and call him a murderer for throwing that knife, but everyone else's murders are given a pass. IMO Locke was trying to save people as much as say, Hurley was killing the dude with the Dharma Van. Sawyer is the only one I can think of in this ep that's basically cold blooded murder.

First off, major kudos to you, David as guide for your fellow couchmates. I can't count how many podcasts or YT reactors I've sat through and listened to the only person who has seen the show just ruin it by revealing spoiler after spoiler or asking questions which ultimately lead to an answer that shouldn't be so easily guessed (What do you think the Black Rock is? comes up first in this category). You have let the three of them offer all kinds of guesses and only reply with "I like that theory, or something similar. I could not choose my favorite season ending episode. It would be like letting me eat my favorite pizza and asking me which one was my favorite slice. Enjoy your "free time" away from this, but know we are all eagerly anticipating your return.

I like to think of the Dharma van as an additional character, since it's involved in so many great moments in the series. Although season 3 has always been my favorite, there's a lot of surprises in season 4 and I'm looking forward to those reactions...especially the first episode. Enjoy your break...you deserve it.

I think that due to the pressure of the water going into the room, Charlie could not get out of it. Also, he was basically accepting his fate and also doing the sign of the cross before dying.

You know a finale is good when even Audrey gets only half of her predictions right. And after the raft/not raft debate, here's the fly/no fly! I appreciate the debate around Charlie's death: even if it was just a deus ex machina, the scene made sense overall, because of what Desmond said to him, but also in the moment he chose to protect Desmond, I dare everyone to think something like "oh well maybe if I run we can escape before the flood". I split the 6 seasons in two, S1-3 are mostly "question centered" and full of world building. The amazing thing is that the final 3 slim seasons work with all that material!

I love the moment after Sawyer kills him and Juliet gives him the look, because I think one can interpret that first as Juliet being scared of Sawyer, but I think it also shows her realization of how much they've terorrized these people. Because Sawyer says "I didn't believe him" when the guy surrendered, which kinda shows how paranoid and on edge they've made the survivors, like to the point that having one of the others surrounded at gunpoint and openly surrendering but still being paranoid that it's a trick.

I never get why people don't get Charlies' actions. -he clearly is ready to sacrify himself and makes it worth, desmond clearly state that if he doesn't die, claire out is not gonna happen. - when he sees mikahil he realises that those flashes were real and therefore decide to realise what he was going to do initialy: die. He clearly willingly fullfil its desteny at this moment. - (alternate one) he sees mikahil with a grenade in hand and desmond running to him, first he has no idea what impact a grenade would di in those conditions but it's fair to assume he is protecting Desmond from a blowing up grenade.

Because if he hadn't known about Desmond's vision, he would've tried to run and probably survived. To me this exemplifies a self-fulfilling prophecy - if Charlie had been skeptical and self-willed instead of setting store by the prophecy of his death, he wouldn't have chosen to surrender as his final act.

Other thoughts (no pun): -Mikhail heals faster in proportion with his faith in the cause. -It's been built into Sawyer's character at every step that he doesn't let grudges go easily (he basically has to believe he deserved it, like being tortured by Sayid). He's the last guy Tom should have pissed off. Also Sawyer goes out of his way to protect children. The rudest he ever was to a child was with Walt in season 1, and he wasn't that bad. And he was always okay with Claire.

David, the statement that the head of surgery said, about Jack being a hero twice over, has to imply that the first hero moment was because he was able to get Sara to walk again. It cannot be attributed to saving the losties, because as we know later on, the "story" that they all told, he was not the hero.

We've had tears in one episode so far - Exodus Pt. 1. Audrey and Zola a few times throughout that one. And of course, there is a certain... constant... that may or may not cause some leakage. But overall, I think you're right, the camera makes it harder. Plus, the couch gang leans a bit more analytical than emotional.

I have enjoyed the first 3 seasons of your react so far, but I have to mention Audrey talks way too much during the episodes, I am not trying to be rude, but sometimes its better not to say anything and hold thoughts for after. I feel she ruined many intense moments by talking through them, while the others are sitting quietly absorbing what is happening.
