My first solo outside of airport where I did touch and goes, I mis-calculated my return to GRK. I had already called GRK approach to tell them that I was inbound but did not see the airport in the seven minutes. No problem, GRK called me to ask if I was still planning to land (Fort Hood Flying Club). I admitted I was on first solo and was lost. The transponder did not work so ATC had me do 90 degree turns. They told me to look at the ground. I did and told them their was an airport below. That confirmed it was me. They vectored me to land. I then went to ATC to thank them . The controller was a very young girl which further emasculated me. I vowed never to get lost again. I did not¡ that was some 50 years ago.
