Well. That was one hell of a ride. Very interesting concept. I can't imagine the amount of work it took to get the photos and arraying them. And the graphics of the moving train... Wow. Well done, you!

My Father worked on this line in the relay gang during the 1950s ,the track was in excellent condition when they closed the line in 1959.

Excellent video. Obviously the result of a great deal of research; so much better than the usual land-based views.

These are fabulous and this one so far is my most favourite. The pictures, the way you share the journey, the music and even the background noises are so well done.

Hi Laura I don't know all that much about Melton Constable the only video featuring it are my railway ones as Melton Constable was an important railway junction once. Sounds like you need a trip to your library!

Superb....any railway history is of interest...makes one wonder why these rural lines should have been mothballed for future use...but I guess this is what they call 'progress'...NOT?

Mothballing is expensive. Not only do you need to keep the track and infrastructure in a reasonable condition to allow quick reopening but mor importantly you need to maintain driver knowledge of the line and that is harder to do if the line isn't kept in running conditions (especially in the days before computer based simulation was possible). And just how long do you intend to mothball each line for? The March to Wisbech line is still in place, except for all the level crossing, but will take months to be reopened due to all the trees and shrubs growing in the track bed. Then they'll need to re-establish the track circuits and signals and the level crossings especially the one over the A47, which the Highways Agency and local council will oppose unless the line terminates south of this major road or a bridge for the road is constructed. But what will take the longest time will be the training of the drivers, provided sufficient drivers can be found within the current workforce. In the last 20 years the route knowledge will have been lost through drivers leaving the industry and for those that remain not having driven along the line in almost quarter of a century (and that was with freight trains in the main). The M&GN lines were always poor financial performers, the only thing that really kept them alive was the summer holiday traffic. Many of their stations were a good distance from the villages they served making local bus services more appealing. And when people started buying cars the local buses disappeared.
