Sawyer was also my favorite character. Loved him from the beginning when he was a good looking a-hole to the end. My second favorite was Sahid. I like characters that have both good & bad tendencies. This was such a great show & I finally learned to appreciate the ending in time. Glad you're tackling it, I'm in for the ride.

I found it refreshing to see someone hate Sawyer lol. I never hated him, but I do think viewers give him a pass way too often while other characters get all the criticism. It's nice to have a variety of opinions among Lost reactors.

Sawyer was my favorite character from day one but even more so later on. He's not a bad guy. He is just trying to he hated. He is funny and interesting and cool.

So weird watching it with hindsight. My favorite characters are the ones you have to dig into to really get to know. Jack is a do gooder for a reason. Sawyer is untrusting for good reason. John has amassed some wisdom for a reason. They all have backstories that explain not only their personalities but their struggles that made them that way. They represent a good portion of any society (protector, healer, brother, friend, homemaker, hunter, criminal, etc). The people you’d meet on any given flight, on any given day could be stranded with you on an uninhabited island in the ocean. Their character development is the best part of the journey that leads to the answers. The beginning and ending of a book is less important than the contents in the middle. This is a long visual book with many chapters.

I'm so happy to finally watch a reaction to my favorite all time show (and I've watched significantly more shows than most). This show has a bad rep by people who didn't pay attention while watching and got quite literally LOST in the plot by the end (actually much sooner than that usually). Typically when this show gets brought up you'll hear bullshit lies about the ending. It's not a perfect show (in my mind the most completely near perfect show is Breaking Bad) but damn the character arcs from the beginning to end and journey through that is UNBEATABLE. So much exploration into characters and every time they do at the very least a really great job tying in the overall plot to the 'flashback' plot for that episode. At it's peak and best, you can't compare it to much of anything. This incredible piece of storytelling will resurface to a modern audience who are consuming media so quickly that the idea of binging a series like LOST isn't an issue to them. Issue is just the current stigma from those who couldn't see the beauty right in front of them and missed it for their incessant need to understand the mystery (which IS explained, to audiences who paid attention) while missing the entire point of the series; the characters.

I think its funny she hates sawyer for being a dick when I'm pretty sure everyone is antagonistic to him first. I dont think anyone ever asks him for anything, they just demand it from him or try to take it. He really never did anything thwt bad. But on the flip side Sayid goes from 0 to torture in a heart beat and he's a great guy.

The lead actor who plays Jack stated numerous times that he hasn't watched a single episode of LOST because he's too critical about his own acting. He said he'd just be nitpicking what he does the entire time.

29:27 I will be real honest: I hated and loved LOST so many times when it first came out. I cannot tell you HOW MANY TIMES this show thoroughly frustrated me. I believe when it was out, it came close to being canceled. But then it picked up steam and became one of the shows for the ages. Glad you are doing a reaction. This was such a great series. Season 2 and 4 are my favorite ones. All the characters are pretty complex and have their flaws. My favorite character hasn't been introduced yet, but at this point, during season one, it was Hurley.

Regarding the Protagonist/Antagonist discussion.. they're ALL BOTH at some point. Every character on this show is both a good and bad person at some point.. Or if not 'bad', at least EXTREMELY ANNOYING at times. *Cough Claire&Shannon COUGH* With the possible exception of Hurley, who's pretty much mostly cool.

Our taste are so similar. In season 1 of Dexter you said 3 shows and then i see you are doing Firefly and you hit 4 of my top shows. 24, Dexter, Lost, and Firefly. The only one you missed from my top 5 is Supernatural. Keep up the great work guys.

I hate Sawyer, too... and I really don't understand people who like him (and yes, I've seen all 6 seasons). He reminds me of Jaime Lannister (Game of Thrones) in that way. I don't understand people who like him, either. Favorite characters are Sayid, Jack, and Kate. I'm a Jater all the way.

You may have heard about this already, but in the original script, Jack was supposed to be the one to die when they went to rescue the co-pilot from the cockpit. (And Jack was also going to be played by Michael Keaton in that version, apparently?) It was supposed to be a big twist because the guy you thought was the main character ends up dying in the first episode. I still kind of wish they had done that instead of what they ended up doing because it would have been a great "no one on this show is safe" opening gambit. But either way, it's still an amazing pilot episode.

Michael Keaton, originally was supposed to be Jack in the pilot and he was planned to die. Then it was decided that a doctor would be needed in the long run. M. K. could or would not commit to the role. So Matthew Fox was brought on.

I’m glad you guys are Reacting to this. I watched it from the beginning to end of every season as they came out. It was the first Interactive prime time show between tv and online group message boards for fans back in the early days of the interwebs’ sharing (makes me wonder if the Dharma websites are still out there in the ether). Every detail, even the background becomes an Easter egg or something to look up online. The fans took apart the show like true crime sleuths. It was exciting to me because they filmed in Hawaii where I was living at the time so I could go see the airplane crash set on the beach or go to the abandoned Xerox building where they shot the inner jungle scenes (Adam and Eve). If you guys like this series, I’ll jump on board for the journey with you and try not to ramble on but if you have questions along the way, I’m here for the smaller answers, But just know that none of us got the Big Answers until the final Season, so you may frustrate yourself many times trying to figure things out along the way, we all did. Buckle up though, it’s a complicated yet fun ride. I’m looking forward to discovering Sawyer again. 😂❤ Notes: There are wild boar on the island, known to attack when provoked and they are hunted for food. There are a lot more small farm animals than people would suspect too (rooster alarms but no cows). Oahu doesn’t have the terrible mosquito populations that other islands would (which is why they should film Survivor there). The mid-section of the plane crash was set on one of the beaches on the north of the island. Straight through those trees beyond the beach is civilization, roads, beach bungalows, etc. They did a great job blocking off the area and only showing you what they wanted to show you. They hired locals as crew members and caterers and construction workers and extras. Everyone loved being a part of it, the beauty and the danger of a mysterious island. Of course we don’t have polar bears but we do have African penguins at the Hilton Hawaiian Village that you can visit (50 First Dates). She may not need some water but I do now… There’s Jin! 🫶🏻 He’s my second favorite character after Sawyer, followed him to Hawaii 5-0 and the Resident and Sawyer to the movie Sabotage and that craptacular series, The Colony before Yellowstone, he’s always Sawyer and Jin’s always Jin. They show the clothes Dad was buried in as well as remind us that he’s a rich surgeon in comfortable shoes. Jack’s got Daddy issues to work out… Don’t They All? I’m practical and would have gone with the safety and supplies of the cave for living purposes as the scouting of the island begins. Yes, because John Locke was a famous 17th century Philosophizer and physician 😉 Look him up, he’s known as the Father of Liberalism (identity, consciousness, empiricism). Western Philosophy. Just like John’s character, he was complicated; while writing against mistreatment of slaves, he invested in slave traders for economical reasons, laying the foundation for the Founding Fathers to hold two contradictory views on freedoms and slavery. He also advocated for separation of Powers (church and state) that made it into our Declaration and Constitution. He was a Capitalist when it came to supply and demand. He wrote about the tabla rasa (clear the table, balance the scales, peaceful mind, blank slate, sense of self, accountability); people are good or evil, made useful or not, by their education (Nature vs Nurture). But even his Nurture-Self Philosophy was rooted in Biblical teachers like Jesus. Kind of the mindset of… Let my people go, from being slaves building a pyramid to being slaves freed to the dessert for 40 years…. To Jesus knocking over a money collecting table for taxes for the market place outside the church doors, Give to Caesar that which belongs to Caesar, but keep it separate from the Church. The ends justifies the means, when balanced. John Locke is Preaching and he takes that ALL the way, to a System of a Down song 😉 At this point, she’s supposed to Prejudge and hate Sawyer… Give her time, she’s still LOST. 😂 Sayid is my third favorite character because he has the same fatal yet redeemable flaws as Sawyer and Jin, ❤. And You All Everybody, right back at cha. 1:58:38 That’s the HOOK for Season One … LOST in Purgatory, how will they survive and what will they learn along the way? Well done. Several of those maps Rousseau had are exact topographical maps of Oahu but at times they have to change the outline orientation of the island to match the astrological constellations seen at night from the north side of the island from the beach. The island itself becomes a character with a backstory. At that time, Finding Nemo was popular and the ‘Somewhere, beyond the sea’ song was in the movie; as well as the nod to the sea written in French (Jacques Cousteau scientific explorer) and a nod to Captain Nemo who also saw glorious underwater adventures, in a mysterious submarine ship. J.J, Damon and Carlton had a way of sliding a random puzzle piece in for you to study as you slowly get the whole picture. Claire-centric episode… I think your college roommate told you a little too much about the show, probably why you haven’t watched it until now but then again, everyone’s thoughts flip flopped along the way between curiosity and frustration back then too. Wait, one of the reasons you hate Sawyer is because of his Yellowstone character and you haven’t seen what happens to him in that one yet either? Oh Boy! Tighten your seatbelt and put your seat in the upright position. 😎 Ethan is always creepy… he’s real life related (cousins) to Tom Cruise, runs in the family. Oh Crap, it just dawned on me that you guys have reacted to 300 and 300 Rise (Xerxes). What games would I invent… Bowling with Coconuts, Barter poker, Sand Castle competitions, Pom Frond netted sticks for Jai Alia or hockey, the island version of Risk, skim boarding for speed and distance, etc… nothing as boring as Never Have I Ever. 😅 Yes, yes, yes, this is where the music starts to become it’s own character within the show, that’s to the movie soundtrack quality music (new at the time for a tv series too). After the show wrapped all seasons, there was an open air orchestral playing of the tv series soundtrack at the Waikiki Shell with Michael Giacchino. Everyone was grateful that he was involved in the plot change music and emotionally driven parts of the show. Standing O from fans at the farewell concert. Side thought, corner pocket; Jimmy Kimmel really got into this show as it went along, making it a part of his show every week. I think he just wanted free trips to Hawaii. 🤣 I took my kids to that waterfall. It’s actually inside a botanical garden; beyond where they are walking is a sightseeing light hiking trail where you can see and find all kinds of plant life, fruits and animals from snap dragon flowers to blue banana trees to peacocks waddling down the sidewalks. It’s much smaller and more shallow than it looks. Another great job from a directors viewpoint, letting the scenery play part in the story. It’s a pond, definitely not deep enough to swim down to air plane seats but better scenery and imagery than the ocean near the beach. I gotta say… the Kate-centric episode catches a lot of hypocrisy when it comes to viewers biases. Hatred for Sawyer because of the things that he’s Said, and on principal ,with no sympathy for his past remorseful issues with his own demons, while giving female Kate every pass, only to find out Kate is the male version of him, only worse, but you don’t hate her (she killed more than one someone’s, unlike Sawyer at this point). At the end here now, down to the final comments of Part 1. Sawyer would have given it to her if she’d told him the story behind it, instead of trying to beat the crap out of him and take what he rightfully found (possibly a self defense weapon or something else useful). She a dangerous con woman and has been using people to her advantage all along, Just Like Sawyer has, only he uses vinegar instead of honey. It’s Lord of the Flies Time!

IMO, Lost gets inconsistent and boring after the 2nd or 3rd season. So you can skip to the last one when you begin feeling boredom and fed up with the nonsense ... I would suggest "The walking dead" at least 10 seasons of very interesting material to react on and analyze
