It's amazing as many times as you walked that mountain you never saw or had a clue anything was over there just a few hundred feet away. The woods can be mesmerizing. Some days it gives up its secrets and some days it doesn't

How amazing, a ski run out in the woods, I bet that was a lot of fun going up the part of the mountain. Exploring is so much fun, seek the impossible and if you're lucky you will find it. You and Waynos found it lol. Thank you for taking us along with you both Mary-Ellen LFOD

I am rather surprised that people walked past you both without seeing you. I would have thought that they would have been looking around them, I know I would lol. I liked to stop and gaze about me in the woods and often found some wildflowers or an animal or two. The wood I would have loved to explore had bluebells every where we looked but was private so we couldn't enter but it was a joy to stand on the road and just look at the beauty of the place. Terry still drives me once a year and parks so I can enjoy the sight, sheer bliss. Take care my friends, Mary-Ellen LFOD

As a avid skier ⛷ and snowboarder 🏂 I found this really interesting. I work in the industry and live in Tahoe. There are places like this here and and I was fascinated by the wheelhouse. I would guess it could have been a rope tow.

I guess they used oxen to pull up the heavy iron. And since the ski slope was cleared, that is the route the oxen took? I don't know, just a guess. But apple orchards at the top of mountains! great. Free fruit! Great trek guys.
@Stealthdiggers6 жыл бұрын
Not sure Mary, back in the 1940s they would have had decent motorized equipment to move that stuff, although it still would have been a real rugged route to move everything.

So, my question is, can you ski in NH?. With all the boulders from the glaciers in the way. Looks like it would be a task.. thanks for the hike in your neck of the woods. We have a man made ski area here in mo. Called snow creek. Ive been there but never tried out the skiing
@Stealthdiggers6 жыл бұрын
Oh yes there are many Ski mountains in NH Norma. This small old private ones must have been very dangerous because they really didn't have the means to move all the rocks.

Ok DC, you got my mind twirling when you mentioned they used old car motors, etc. When an old car is found in the woods for no apparent reason, other than a future target, would someone that couldn't afford all the fancy gears etc. from Maysville, KY have jacked the car up and used the rear wheel to drive something like this (Predator movie style)? Maybe I just need another pot of caffeine...LOL. ; )
@Stealthdiggers6 жыл бұрын
You got it Tyler and thats how they did it back the. Wait till you see the episode coming up in a couple weeks where I find another lost ski hill and the car that pulled the tow line is still out there.

I would say like do some online research on thus land yall walked on. And see where exactly the ski resort was and where the lift pieces were. Maybe that could give you evidence on if it was there or not.

@dryheat852556 жыл бұрын
I did a little research on the internet and found pretty much the same info that you found. Internet comments are a little confusing but it sounds like there is still something of the rope tow to be found at the bottom of the slope. Perhaps if you went back after there is a decent snow cover it would be easier to find (follow the fall line). According to the internet text and topo maps there are a number of different trails on both sides of the mountain and that some of the trails have been relocated several times. I was a little confused which side of the mountain you hikes when I reviewed the internet info. I assumed you were on the south slope but ? The strange rock you found looks a lots like a Native American grinds stone. Wish you had discussed this more.
@Stealthdiggers6 жыл бұрын
There was nothing of anything left at the bottom. We did a lot more walking and searching then I put in the video. There was nothing but a lot off rocks at the end of this run. we thought that might be a grind stone at first but not to sure about it.
@lesahanners50576 жыл бұрын
What an awesome adventure and cool find. I thought that looked just like the old rope tow equipment we had out here on Mt. Hood in Oregon. I couldn't find a picture tho so will put the link to a similar piece of equipment. www.nelsap.org/ct/canton.html I can believe your foliage would easily hide such a thing and am so glad the person who knew about it sent you word. This was so much fun, and I'll bet lots of people enjoyed it in its day. I used a rope tow many a time on Mt. Hood when I was learning to ski, and while the thing would nearly pull your arms out of the sockets it sure beat having to climb the hill with your skis on. Thanks for a lovely adventure with Waynos, Charlie. Happy NOT THURSDAY everyone!

Isn’t it amazing what people did with their wealth, they still do this today to some degree but how perceptions have changed towards attitudes of achievement. The recognition of success is measured and viewed very differently today. So sad what we are becoming. If this was the attitude all the way back in time there would be no history to explore and reflect upon.

Funny how what having trees with its foliage can do to its surroundings. I wonder how many people passed each other like ships in the night fog without even knowing who or what was nearby. Nature is incredible, but God is even more amazing.

Motors always at bottom from what I seen. Model T 4 banger for small rope pulls, Ford flathead 8's for big runs & T's. There were a shit load of them once & they stood out. I bet hundreds of then in almost every small town with a 200' hill. Most now built over it seems LFOD !
