Ironically, a lot of us born and bred Kiwis are doing these tramps and day trips for the first time in our lives now the borders are closed and we don't have to deal with the hundreds of tourists you mentioned crowding the trails. Nice camera work.

thanks for using 'tramp' instead of hike. So many are now saying 'hike'. It may sound picky but it's our tramping culture that is being eroded.

I'd say for a day hike, doing the traverse Avalanche Peak through to Mt Bealey or the other way round is a better trip to do, good views moving along the ridge + isn't too bad for heights, there are much narlier mountain in New Zealand than these (from a fellow anti height enthusiast)
