Part of growing up in the 1960s was special evenings in the Loop, all of us going to join my father when he got off work, and dinner in the pizza place across the street, Pizzeria Due (but a block away from the original Uno, to handle the overflow). It's still a favorite (and the national franchise version actually isn't bad -- not quite the same, but better than any local alternative I'm likely to find). If every you find yourself in the Minneapolis area, Frankie's specializes in a decent Chicago-style pizza. All ingredients are always fresh, never frozen. And while I love the Chicago style, there is one that I prefer more is the Sicilian style. It's rectangular (and we do love our rectangles here in America), baked in a shallow pan, so it can support a heavier load of toppings like the Chicago style, and those corner pieces have the loveliest extra bit of crunchy edge for people who, like me, are fond of the crust. Similarly, there are lots of toppings I love, including a few dessert pizzas (can't wait for you to review those), but my favorite savory combo is; Sicilian crust, garlic Alfredo sauce instead of tomatoes, roasted garlic, mushrooms, chicken, roasted broccoli, black olives, mozzarella, and crumbled Parmesan crisps after it's done baking. Now, if this seems like a health food take, looks can be deceiving. I make my Alfredo sauce with a stick of butter, a cup of cream, and a cup of fresh-grated Parmesan. It's roughly as fatty as a blue whale. The healthy bits are just there to balance the nutritional scales and give the sauce more things to cling to. #yum

You can get thicker Sicilian style pizza in NY also. I live about 13 miles from NYC in Jersey & either regular (hand tossed) or the thicker Sicilian style is popular here. Not many people like Chicago pizza. There's an awfully lot of Italian folks here and this town is largely Italian /Polish. Pierogi meets pizza. My friend's grandmother was from the Naples area and everything was homemade, home grown and fresh.

I prefer Detroit style pizza. Having never even been to Detroit. Though I have been across the river in Canada.

@Oliver stole No, go to Detroit and enjoy it. Just like any other bigger city, there are parts you do not want to go to, but all in all, it is a really cool place to explore. Especially, of your stomach is the guide.

I like all kinds of pizza, just depends on what style/crust/toppings I am in the mood for. If you get brave enough, stop by a Happy Joe’s in Iowa and try yourself a taco or blt pizza-sounds weird, but tastes awesome!

I love Chicago style pizza - but as a native, I didn’t grow up on deep dish, but tavern style thin crust. I grew up with sausage, peppers, onions and mushrooms on top and still prefer those toppings. If I’m having deep dish in Chicago I’m going to Pequods and Pequods only.

My family's from the New York area originally, and I have been to Chicago. I've had both authentic New York-style and Chicago deep dish. Of the two of them... perhaps I'm biased, but I liked New York pizza much more. It's not to say that the deep dish was bad-- it's just a much different approach than I grew up with. Chicago deep dish is too crunchy and bulky for my taste, and while I see the logic of burying the cheese beneath the sauce for that technique, it's just not my thing. I don't begrudge people who prefer the deep dish, though. The sad thing in my case is, I really can't eat either anymore (or pizza from any other restaurant), due to medical issues that arose a few years ago. The only pizza I can still eat now is self-prepared, homemade pizza using special crusts and non-fat feta. It's still better than you'd think, but it's certainly not on the level of a genuine New York-style pizza.

New York Style and a good Italian style pizza are delicious. My father owned an Italian restaurant/pizzeria when I was younger. My favorite toppings on a pizza are black olives and tomato, just so good👌 🇮🇹 🍕 . I've never had Chicago-style pizza. To be honest it looks too thick. Like way too much dough.
