Quite a dramatic episode. Relieved that your stay at my place appeared to be stress free and a big thanks for all the nice things you said about it. You managed to light a turf fire - fair play. Turf burning may cease to be part of the Irish way of life quite soon so that could become a real archive clip! Come back any time and good luck with the rest of the Wild Atlantic Way. Sandy

Fortunately Ireland doesn’t really get the extreme weather conditions but it’s very wet and windy. We are constantly at the mercy of the jet stream and Atlantic storms. The region you are in now is strongly influenced by the Gulf Stream. But the jet stream influences all the weather over Ireland and the uk . It’s good to see you guys staying positive and always smiling. Between busted drones and winter weather. Happy travels .
@Dreyno2 жыл бұрын
2010 the Gulf Stream paused and we realised our true latitude. -12° to -14° by day and -15° to -20° at night. It was an eye opener. Still, by the end of the month everyone had learned the value of layering, proper gloves and a proper winter coat.
@norwegianzound Жыл бұрын
@@Dreyno Ummm....LOL. The Gulf Stream didn't pause. The whole North Atlantic gyre doesn't ever "pause". The reason for the awful weather was the movement of Jet Stream further south. As Prof John Sweeney of Maynooth University said: "The jet stream is the carrier of weather to much of Europe and across Ireland. Conventionally, it brings us mild and moist Atlantic weather -- 2010 has been characterised by a jet stream which is much more loopy and wave like and when that happens we tend to get a lot of anomalies so we've been having extremely strange conditions,"
@Dreyno Жыл бұрын
@@norwegianzound Do you take everything you read so literally? It must be exhausting. The Jet Stream usually takes moist, warm air from the Gulf Stream towards Ireland. In 2010, a negative North Atlantic Oscillation of -6 brought Artic air towards Ireland rather than the usual positive NAO which brings blustery, damp weather from the Gulf Stream. This is what’s called a blocking pattern and yes, it “paused” the effects of the Gulf Stream to all intents and purposes as the warm, damp air could not progress in it’s usually direction. So take your “lol” and stick it where the sun don’t shine (unfortunately that’s usually Ireland too ☹️)

Hello, Iz and Tom! Started watching your videos because my partner is Irish, and in Dublin atm, and I am in Chicago, waiting to move there. We have traveled a bit in the west (and NI- he is from there) and I am dying to do more exploring! Both of you are so naturally good at narrating your travels and I enjoy your enthusiasm so much. (Also, I drag my partner to charity shops whenever I can 😅)Anyway, please oh please Tom for the love of god, resist that urge to crawl into tiny spaces in rural areas!!! OMG, my palms were sweating!! I was picturing the rescue effort to locate the man trapped in the tunnel in Co. Kerry, everyone glued to the news coverage for days 😅 Seriously, nearly gave me a panic attack 😅 Anyway- thanks for sharing your travels! ❤

Hi Guys, and Isabel nice to randomly bump into you in Bantry the other day getting supplies :) I now know why Bernadette has been following you so avidly, brilliant videos and great fun to watch - really enjoying. Hope you got through the storm no problem and hopefully the sun 'll be back out in the coming week. If you're planning a sea swim in West Cork you'll find the bigger beaches easy enough, but if you fancy a smaller more intimate setting check out Ballyrisode (west of Schull towards Goleen), or possibly Tralispean or Tragumna in the Skibbereen direction. All accessible in the van and I'd guess no problem parking overnight at any of them. There's plenty more hidden about the place and I'm sure ye'll get tips if you ask around. A walk up to Three Castle Head is also a good one if you get a chance. Tom, great that you're exploring the history of the country, whilst down in the SW check out the tales about piracy around here, t'was a veritable stronghold back in the day :) Also look online for a brilliant blog called roaringwater journal. Many articles about West Cork and beyond that delve into much detail - perfect for an evening read. Anyway, thanks again for the videos and great to see you enjoying the adventure. We're enjoying it along with you :)

Do visit Co. Wicklow, too!; it’s well worth a trip. Glendalough and its Spinc trail are breathtaking, and, Powerscourt gardens and Estate make a superb day trip. And since you won’t be far from South Dublin: be sure to take a stroll up Killiney Hill; the views from the top, especially when approached via Vico road, are just beautiful. Sandycove and Dalkey villages are close by and have a great food and coffee scene, particularly the former. Enjoy!

Making us feel inspired to get over there too! Your so brave in every vlog with what you get up to. Well done and keep it up, hope you are safe with all this bad weather xx

Love our weekly escapism to Ireland. Although the weather didn't look that different to how it has been in Cornwall lately. We've been dodging our sea swims too so this has reminded us if you guys can jump in (with what looks like such ease) we defo need to get our butts in a bit more frequently! Safe travels and looking forward to catching up again next week xx

Hey guys aww thank you so much for watching again!! hope you were ok in the storms in cornwall yesterday- they looked so bad! maybe not the best time to be doing sea swims lol! take care xx
