U ain't lying. I come back to this once every year and it just gets better with each listen, especially when you really pay attention to what's actually going on around you. The pledge Greek line if anyone else was wondering since a few have asked me: I will do my best but that is a very tricky line. First, it’s easier to try to take it in the context of the lines surrounding it within the bar. The bar in its entirety says “the Europeans be leveraging opinions through ethnic bias, If you ain’t do no scholarship on this don’t dare speak. This that ether that’s gon’ separate leaders from mere sheep. It’s like whipping on the back of a slave with bare feet, when historically black universities pledge Greek.” The first line refers to historically white European men being the primary influence in western culture and education. So that they can maintain their privilege within society, they continue to promote these ideas. The separate leaders from mere sheep is just saying that annoying willing to adhere to what Los is saying and undertake the journey of doing the research on it and take action will become a leader within the culture rather than falling in line with the masses. All of this leads up to the Greek line...which can have two separate meanings and I honestly don’t know which one he means specifically so I’ll articulate both possibilities. The first one is that black Greek organizations have been criticized by African American leaders such as Du Bois, who I am pretty familiar with (if you haven’t read Souls of Black Folk it’s really good). They are criticized for not being inclusive to all African Americans and creating an aristocracy within their own race promoting an elite class of primarily light skin, wealthy, blacks that look down among their brothers. This leads them to be separated from their culture and heritage and out of touch (Du Bois own words) with the average black person in America. So it’s essentially a spit in the face to your brothers and sisters to pledge Greek. The second possibility, and the one I think is probably a bit more likely given the context of the European line, is that African Americans have their own culture and heritage and it’s important to recognize, remember, and celebrate it. When you pledge Greek, which is a historically western activity related to white Europeans, you not only assimilate into their culture more, you forego your own. That’s why the “whipping on the back of the slave with bare feet” line is a precursor to the Greek line, because your furthering your own enslavement to a culture that has already enslaved you and you’re paying homage to it. Now, I will end with saying I am in no way shape or form agreeing or disagreeing with what he is saying or how he is saying it. I am merely offering my best interpretation of what his bars mean. I’m just a white guy from Detroit that reads a lot and loves hip hop music lol.

Despite Socrates being the father of Western civilization thought and philosophy, it was regurgitated by his students. Leading into the “5th spot is a mockery line...” He’s the father of what he does...nobody can fully comprehend it, and those who are closest, who he would deem to be the likes of Plato and Aristotle, are worthy of being in his prescience, but he’s still leagues above them. Okay, so hear me out on the line below: "But you a smooth criminal, you can make that quarter flip, but off one hit, you could turn a king to a leaner." Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal In the beginning of Smooth Criminal music video (which everyone knows is a HIT song) Michael Jackson (who many say is the KING of pop) flipped a quarter (quarter flip) and also does the famous lean (LEANER). Drug References A drug dealer (smooth criminal) flips a quarter (sells a quarter measurement of a drug), but a drug can turn anyone -- even a good/great person (a KING) into an addict (a LEANER -- some drugs people take make them do the infamous lean lean) Mathematics Reference Make that quarter flip (quarter is 1/4th of something). Turn a king (could be heard a KEY, which is drug slang for KILO aka KILO GRAM which is a measurement of weight) into a leaner (could be heard as LITER, another form of measurement but in volumes) 1 kilo/kilogram is equal to 1 liter. Kilo is a measurement in a solid state, the other is a measurement of volume in a liquid state. Many drugs go from a liquid to a solid when cooked. Some drugs are also "broken down" from a solid to a liquid when the drug is taken. I could be reaching on the mathematics part, but that's the way I took it and MY WHOLE WORD WENT BANANASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. King Los is disgusting!

antonio barton They caught every bar on the surface. But there’s no chance anyone catches every bar first listen. It’s too layered. Like Lupe. I guarantee if they made another reaction, they’d catch even more, & it would probably still be like 30 minutes. That’s how much depth Los’ lyrics have.
@Lwl_Lvl4 жыл бұрын
@@TD31093 I totally agree, king Los is a lyrical beast. I watched I don't know how many reactions to catch some bars. Not gone lie a few went over my head because of the culture difference. But all in all straight fire
