Still working my way through your videos in random order (now). One suggestion for cold weather car starting is to keep some stove pipe and 90 degree elbow in your car. You can warm up the engine compartment by using a one burner campstove outside the car and stove pipe to funnel heat under the car. Would help a cold and slow cranking battery turn the engine over easier. Synthetic oil better to use also. I used to this for a crappy snowmachine that wouldnt start below minus 30 back in the 80s in northern Sask when doing exlporation geophysics. Used a Coleman model 505 Naptha stove. A butane/propane mix stove would not be as effective though. Really enjoying your vids:)

One great tip for you. Use your boots as a pillow. You cross them, sole on each side, under your head, and they'll be warm in the morning.

Korean BBQ is probably one of the better meal ideas for hot stove winter camping. Those hub cap grills aren’t very heavy and are pretty versatile for camping even in summer. Totally worth the effort just don’t forget the soju!

Love that clear winter evening sky. We used to stop our snowmobiles outside town when it was super cold out. The stars and winter sky in northern Ontario are incredible. Only other place I've seen as many stars is in the Rockies. I remember one Christmas it was -60F , the smoke from the house chimneys going straight up, dead still looking out the kitchen window down the street. That might be the year White River hit -72, not sure. You could hear the rafters in the attic banging as the nails got so cold and conntracted. The mornings are as beautiful as the shot Jon shows, wonderful time to be out going ice fishing , for many.

The -36 might not be too far off. I went to work that morning and it was -29 when the forecast called for -19. I find that at the height of a cold, high pressure system the cold settles in the low spots between valleys.

Winter camping, in the sleeping bag, an empty bottle to serve as a urinal is very handy. No pun intended. Saves one from having to get completely out of the bag . I've used a goretex bivy bag when winter camping with no tent. No worries about frost on the sleeping bag in the morning or snow or any weather during the night. People seemed amazed when I didn't use a tent to winter camp. Or thought I was crazy. Didn't sseem unreasonable to me. Way easier/simpler than a tent would you agree?

What a cold night! But the real test in these condisions are the second night. That is when you see if you cope and if you are abel to keep your gear dry and functional. I think the best way would be to prepare a fire in the evening, so you easely lit it in the morning. A place to worm up your hands is what you need dealing whith everything. 😀

It's always so nice to get back to warmth and comfort after being less than warm and comfy for a day or so. First thing I would do is fire up my canister stove right there in the vehicle and make ramen! I've always wondered if that mask works so that was cool. I wear a hard plastic one that attaches to ski goggles for winter cycling, I wouldn't sleep in it though, too much drip.

Great video Jon, but brrrrr that looked cold😨!! I wouldn't be surprised if your trail cam temp was accurate, since forecasted temps are far from 100%. I suppose you probably didn't get a chance to glance at your real thermometer in the night, would be fun to know with certainty since you endured it😄. Also, if you were setup in a little low spot compared to the surrounding terrain, it's likely that the colder air could pool in the low lying area around you. I sure look forward to hot tenting myself, but I have zero desire to cold camp like that. And please don't feel like you have to prove anything and justify yourself to people who question your integrity, they are not worth it! Take care🥰.
