I don't know how it sounds like acoustically but it sounds like rubber bands with that pickup. Practically unlistenable. This is what an acoustic guitar should sound like: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJTVdqR_pc5pqck

This is by far his best recorded performance of this song. His setup of the song (speech and guitar) is great. The tempo is up more than other versions, which I think moves better especially with that hot solo. Stephen's voice is still in good form at this point in his career (1983). Awesome.

It's hard to over state two things. Firstly, how under rated Stephen Stills is. Secondly, and more importantly, how absolutely brilliant he is. His influence on modern music is enormous. Jimi Hendrix apparently said Stephen was his favourite guitarist to jam with. High praise indeed!
@waveoflight

After 45 years of hearing him in the background, I started listening to this amazing musician. He has chops like very few, and can make it sound beautiful at the same time, a distinction that can not be understated. "Jimi Hendrix apparently said Stephen was his favorite guitarist to jam with. High praise indeed! " If what you say is accurate, it is like being given knighthood by the King of guitar players.

I´m sorry about Stills alcoholism and development because of this, but I´m glad he´s doing as good as he is. Last thing I saw was his performance with Furay and Young in a Buffalo Springfield performance and I must say I love it although he himself said that his doctor has told him he may not be able to use his fingers as before, when playing guitar. As long as he can I love it!!

dear Lord- nobody has abused themselves like crosby! i think this is a great video with great audio. i could listen to it all day. maybe it was his last "good work" because of voice problems, i don't know. but i'm comfortable enjoying it at face value for its greatness

This song was no doubt inspired by the Columbus Air Force (Stills himself has probably said so somewhere but I couldn't find it), a group of veteran pilots who smuggled weed from Mexico in small planes in the Sixties and Seventies. This was a joke name, not to be confused with the Columbus Air Force base back east somewhere. Columbus is a tiny city in Texas, not far from the border. They all got caught and did time. Google Columbus Air Force for some fun stories.

I spent 45 years years in the cockpit of both airplanes and helicopters until my forced retirement last year at age 62. From the geographic North Pole in ‘88, through to India, Nigeria, KSA, Qatar, Yemen and finally Abu Dhabi in the UAE…..it’s been a great ride…… Treetop Flyer is a greatly appreciated tribute to those highly trained pilots who do things just a bit different than the guys driving at United. Many thanks…….

Stephen Stills gets very little credit for his guitar playing. It's so sweet, jumpy and every note is tasty in just the right way. E!citric players are the "only guitar gods". I like electric, I love acoustic. Man edit a hellava tune as well.

Listening to this I'm reminded once again how much Stills guitar sound shaped music in the 1970s. This particular song reminds me of the classic CSN&Y album 4 Way Street (although this was released years after that seminal recording) Stephen has a lonely bluesy quality in his playing that draws you in and perfectly compliments his warm earthy vocals.

Back in my teeny-bopper days I was sure I was going to marry this man. Ha! I had the occasion to be at the TV show "Groovy" filmed at Santa Monica Pier in the late 60's when the Buffalo Springfield played. I still have my teeny-bopper autograph book with Steve's, Neil's and Richie's autographs from that day. I still have a *thang* for Mr. Stills.
