This is by far his best recorded performance of this song. His setup of the song (speech and guitar) is great. The tempo is up more than other versions, which I think moves better especially with that hot solo. Stephen's voice is still in good form at this point in his career (1983). Awesome.

Last thing I saw was his performance with Furay and Young in a Buffalo Springfield performance and I must say I love it although he himself said that his doctor has told him he may not be able to use his fingers as before, when playing guitar. This song was no doubt inspired by the Columbus Air Force (Stills himself has probably said so somewhere but I couldn't find it), a group of veteran pilots who smuggled weed from Mexico in small planes in the Sixties and Seventies. This was a joke name, not to be confused with the Columbus Air Force base back east somewhere. Columbus is a tiny city in Texas, not far from the border. They all got caught and did time. Google Columbus Air Force for some fun stories.

Listening to this I'm reminded once again how much Stills guitar sound shaped music in the 1970s.
