I pre purchased this deck and so happy the day it arrived. It started working for me right away. I’m thinking of moving to the coast so I pulled a card - the Heron! I just saw your video today a few weeks later and you pulled the same card! Confirmation! Thanks. I’ve added it to my Latin tarot and Oracle decks collection and love it!❤

Being acquainted with Xelena's work, I was excited about this deck and picked one up recently at Hayhouse 1/2 price sale. I have been working with a Don Clemente deck for some time and enjoy it as a divination tool. This deck modernizes the Don Clemente style Mexican Loteria deck into a lovely tool for self reflection. The guidebook is well written for that purpose. I love the matt finish of the deck. The art is lovely as well. However, where it falls short l for me is the cardboardy cheap cardstock that does not even have a blue or black core. It's thick, if you riffle it will eventually bow, as the cards do not have any snapback to them so after you rifle it a number of times, it will bow. And disappointedly, I picked up another deck with the same cheap cardboard cardstock so it appears this is Hayhouse's new model. This cardstock makes the deck is thick and hard to handle for me, it does not feel good in the hands. Definitely I have had a number of Hayhouse published decks over the years but this is the worst cardstock of any of them. At least with this deck, the printer cut all the deck with the same size because I have cards of different sizes and/or bow cards right out the box with Hayhouse which is why I never buy a deck from them unless 1/2 these days. I think this deck would have been even more lovely if borderless and hope in the future that they will do a bordler less pocket size deck (more poker size). The backing design seems uninspired and just does not match the spirit of the deck in my opinion but that is a small thing. However, this cardstock is not a small thing and the deck with worse cardstock in my current collection is the Shadowland Tarot but another publisher. If the deck does not feel good in my hands and easy to shuffle, then regardless of how pretty it is or how much I might like to work with it, I typically move it on. I like the art so much in the Loteria Remedios deck, but equally dislike the cardstock so I will probably try trimming it down to maie it easier to handle and making it borderless to boot. I would like this deck more typical sized vs so large as I do divination with Mexican Loteria decks. The reviewer, who does excellent reviews and walk through of decks, just has a different opinion about the cardstock than I do. I do not like this cardstock. It is sad, and I am sad about that because it affects me working with this deck.

That's so great to hear! I think that's part of the magic of the deck, that the images alone are familiar/close to home and therefore open the heart up to receiving ancestral wisdom.

Loteria is a bingo type game and I’ve played it since I was a kid. Just about every Mexican household has a loteria game to play for entertainment but it’s also used to read fortunes. I’m so excited to see it made as an oracle deck because it is very commonly used this way in Mexico and here by practitioners of Latin folk magic, curanderas and our grandmas 😊

Thank you for sharing. The deck I used while writing the remedios belonged to my great-grandmother who was a curandera. I'm not sure if she ever used these cards in her practice, but I have heard my whole life that healers work with the deck. I just never found a collection of meanings, so I decided to manifest them and received a lot of guidance in the process ♥

I love when a deck has more than the almost standard 44 cards. I like the simple artwork on this and at least the card you read seems law of assumption friendly (which I live by), so this might actually be a new deck on my list. :)

I received this deck a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely love it! Need to find a latin themed tarot deck to pair with this. Any ideas? I have the Secrets of Paradise tarot but it doesn’t quite resonate with me much. So need another hispanic/ latin deck . Any recommendations are welcome. 🙏 thank you 😊

I wonder if you would vibe with the Sugar Skull Tarot by David R Ross and illustrated by Carolina Martinez? It's beautifully illustrated and has Hispanic/Latin roots and themes - celebrating Dia de Los Muertos. The Herbcrafters Tarot by Latisha Guthrie and art by Joanna Powell Colbert also has a bit of a Latin theme, but it isn't focused primarily on it if that makes sense - it's more focused on herbs and their properties. Those are the 2 off the top of my head I could recommend. I also have unboxing videos of them on my channel if you want to further investigate. I hope that helps! Thank you so much for watching! ❤️

You need to understand mexican culture and the history of the Loteria as well as using this term in Latin American culture, which is used affectionately. Not of Mexican culture, I found it an odd card at first, but did a lot research about Mexico and understanding the history of the Don Clemente Loteria, the basis for this deck, to understand. In Latin American being call this term in either the masculine or femine version of the word is a term of endearment and not offensive as it might be perceived in another culture.

@@Teresa-rg8pt I'm glad there seems to be good intention behind this card but as an American, I'll definitely ask questions around any card that is specific to the color of a person's skin- and I'm okay with that.

@@gingerblue I completely understand that being from the US myself. However, this deck is a step into Mexico's history so to speak and as such as I spent a good amount of time learning about Mexico and its history. I even watched documentaries to learn about the land. And doing so I have a great fondness for this deck and Mexico although it is probably I wont be able to ever go there.. But I wonder if I was using it to read for someone else how Little Black Man and even the Apache card would be take as they are truly race oriented cards. You can always remove those two cards from the deck. However this is Xelena's culture, and as such, she took an old game (yes the Loteria is a popular game in Mexico from I think the 1700s) and she breathed life into it by retaining the structure but changing it more to a way for personal reflections. The art is alot more modern the the Don Clemente version. And as such there are other versions because it is a game, sort like bingo, in different themes such a bridal shower one for a bridal party as an example.. As a parting though, I buy alot of different kinds of decks and I use them as a stepping stone in different cultures or topics, so sort of a jump off point to learn more about something. And I was curious a while back as to whether the Mexican Lotiera could be used for divination. To understand some cards, I had to learn the history of them and about Mexican culture. I have a Loteria deck based on the Day of the Dead also and I must say, that is such a lovely tradition and quite different from the attitude in the US. If you want a quick (1 hour) introduct to the history of the Loteria deck, I would suggest this video by a professor: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZK0qp2np9acn7c You may see things differently or decide, nope this is not for me due to structure based around a caste system in place in the 1700s I believe. But viva the revolution, Mexico has come along way as well as the US. History is important in understand that as well.

I wonder what the difference is between this and a regular Loteria deck? I've been wanting to learn to read Loteria cards for divination, and if this deck is standard Loteria illustrations with traditional card meanings, I might just go for it instead of getting a regular deck and trying to find meanings online.

It is based on the popular version of a Don Clemente deck but with more awesome artwork. However, there are lots of version of the Mexican Loteria, some more modern ones such as the Milena. I use the Don Clement for divination and put a lot of work into coming up with more own meaning before running into Xelena. I got her book to find out I had a lot of the same type of meanings, but she helped broaden other cards in her book (prior to this deck), Loteria Remedios. Xelena's work is very soulful. However, there are a few cards where the art differs so much from the standard Don Clemente deck such as El pajaro I will have to change my interpretation slightly to work iwht this deck. However, most are similar enough or the art allows for even more expansion. You can find some meanings on the World Divination site, but I just found them a good starting point but wanted more. So I put in the work and research to expand the meaning lots more. It is fun.

@Teresa-rg8pt Ай бұрын
It follows the structure of the Don Clemente deck. The difference in my opinion is updated art, an updated way to use it from personal reflection and personal work and just not a game. This particular deck is just the cards and a guidebook, no game cards. However, there are some more modern and spiritual takes on the old cards that could expand meaning from a divination stand point, but for me the bird card in Xelena's deck is much different in terms of divinaiton meaning that bird sitting in a tree singing its song as one example. But two oracle decks, as an example, can have a term with different artwork and you might interpret the meaning slightly different due to the art work particularly if you are visual. A Don Clemement deck just comes with little sayings so it can be used as a game, sort of like bingo (so a deck for the caller and game boards with markers for the players). And you can use those game boards for divination was well combining with things such a s dice or charms as an example, but you do not get game boards with this as it was intended to be use in a different way. Lastly, there are many variabion so the Mexican Loteria deck from different artwork in a Don Clemente tradition take to themes such as Disney is putting them out for movies now and of course one of my favorites, The Day of the Dead Loteria which in working out a system with that deck, I started to see it might be used to indentify qualities of someone deceased or the person you might be reading for but that has been hard one to bring together in a cohesive divination tool but shows so much promise. I hope this starts to answer your question.
