I think it's great showing new & older brands. There is always that buyer or buyers looking for that favorite pair of shoes and when they do it really makes them happy. You will definitely pick up a returning customer. I know I feel the same as someone who "favorites" a certain item. 😊🤷♀️👍

Hi great information, how often do you find any of the brands you mentioned. I have not seen these yet but will definitely look going forward. Allen Edmonds is great I found a nice pair of brogue boots in great condition at the thrift for 5.99 and they sold almost immediately for 90.00. Thanks again for another great video.

I find Alden, Allen Edmonds, and Peal & Co/Brooks Brothers the most often! Good dress shoes are definitely more rare than good running/athletic shoes. But it's so worth the profit when you find a nice pair of dress shoes!

These resell through rates are great. What would you consider a “pick up” resell through rate for most items?
@Josh-Kim2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I usually shoot for at least 60-70% in the dress shoe category. Higher than that is always a big plus 😄 I'm willing to pick up items with a little less, like 40-50%, if it will bring in a higher profit amount too though.

Thanks for the list Josh! I’ve only heard of Allen Edmonds and never found it. Do you use 50% STR as your base to buy for dress shoes? I’m not sure if that’s the correct way to ask my question or if you take a lot more into account. I’m sure it depends on asp and your buy cost, but just curious your thought if I make sense.
@Josh-Kim2 жыл бұрын
I try to find closer to 70%+ for dress shoes, but I'm willing to pick up shoes in the 40-50% STR range if they are higher dollar dress shoes. If I think I can get at least $75-100+, then I'm willing to wait a little longer for the dress shoe category 😊

A good sign to look up the shoe if you see that it's made there!
@Chipperd_2 жыл бұрын
Confused! I did an ebay search for "mens red wing boots size 11". Then went to the pre-owned. Result was 448, then went to the solds, results 751, str = 167%. Then I went to terapeak and did the same search and their str is only 39%????
@Josh-Kim2 жыл бұрын
I've seen people calculate STR two ways. Either the way I do it, or they will do STR = (sold listings / (active + sold listings)) * 100. I think Terapeak does it the second way. I do it the first way, because that's how I've seen other resellers do it. Honestly, I'm not sure which formula is more accurate, but I do it my way because it's easier for me to calculate while in the thrift store since I can play off the "100% sell through" benchmark. The way I do it, and how I see most resellers do it, seems to be a pretty solid/accurate way to determine how fast items sell though. Hopefully that didn't confused you more lol
@rollingwithstones2 жыл бұрын
@@Josh-Kim I would assume TP is calculating the STR correctly. You can't use your formula when there are no active listings with 100 sold listings, a true 100% STR.
@Josh-Kim2 жыл бұрын
@@rollingwithstones Yeah Terapeak is probably using the right formula. The "reseller math" gets the job done for the on the spot decisions while sourcing I guess 😂😅

The formula used by most resellers on eBay for the sell thru rate doesn't make sense to me. If an item has 100 active listings and 100 sold listings, wouldn't that be a 50% sell thru rate? There would be 200 total listings, 100 active and 100 sold, so the 100 sold would be half of the total listings or 50%. How can you have more than 100% of anything? Also, if there are no active listings of an item, but there are 100 sold, what is the sell thru rate? If there are no active listings and only 1 sold, what is the sell thru rate???

Research is a waste of time
@Josh-Kim2 жыл бұрын
No problem if you think it is. I personally think it's extremely valuable. I'm either going to look up brands while I'm in the thrift store, or do it ahead of time and already know which brands I'm looking for. Once I learn the brand/styles, I don't need to do the research over and over anymore. We all value our time differently though. The beauty of reselling is we can all approach it differently. You do you!
@Djr852 жыл бұрын
@@Josh-Kim Trends change over time. Time on research becomes less and less valuable as more time passes. I would rather spend an hour listing 10 things than researching things that I can research if necessary when I find them.

Yes, most of these brands have never appeared around here in the 3 years I've been selling. I feel it's better to know good quality and look them up on the spot. I love selling shoes but dress shoes are now very poor to concentrate on. I also have been looking for shell Cordovan for 3 years. Zip. Other niches are much better.
