LOTRO: Is Solo Captain OP? - Leveling Dungeons

I find out how strong the new solo captain is in the Lord of the Rings Online! LOTRO Captain gameplay was updated in Update 35 in 2023 and I test if the new solo Captain is OP in LOTRO! In this LOTRO Challenge, I attempt to solo Great Barrow around level 20, among other instances and discuss Captain gameplay!

Captain is sooooooooo mich better now than it was before rework. I nearly quit the game levelling my captain to 140 it was so tedious. Had to double check I wasnt healing mobbs the dps was so bad.

Yeah, I stopped leveling in my 60’s on my cap. It was slower than my guardian so yeah… ouch. Looking forward to jumping back on my captain after I get “Undying” on my T9 difficulty LM.

Yeah im planning on levelling my Mariner with the landscape difficulty cranked up, I'm bored of killing shit in two hits when levelling and having zero threat of death. @@MrWhybull

I like playing Captain, having the Stand Alone skill unlocked later on makes a lot of difference to damage output

I was a captain back at release and loved it.. returning to the game soon (i have a lifetime account.. interesting to see how many shop points it has saved up.) Good to hear they got some love and soloing power, as I am a nerd with no friends to play with. :]

A thing with Traits impacting abilities you don't have yet due to levels: it's weird at first glance, but other than a few truly "leftover" places, it's because *by design* we dip into 1 or 2 other trait trees as we level past around 50. So placing those ability-boosters as relatively easy pickups for a secondary trait tree is there to allow branching and choice for mid-high level builds, where you may only be dropping 20 points into a tree but want to be able to pick up some useful bumps. I just wish that SSG made it clearer in their design or notes someplace that there was, you know... a method to what looks (at a glance) like madness.

Re: GW2, there is functionally not *stat* progression past a certain point. At 80, you are at the level cap, regardless of your XPack. Each XPack gives characters another spec tree to progress through, along with whatever sundry secondary systems came with it (gliding, mount skills, etc). Those can be more focused or more powerful (in the right hands) than things like base specs but it's not a level or stat jump, it's "I have more things I can do, and the ability to specialize further". For stats, the gear levels are also very constrained. You have basic white/blue/green etc leveling gear, then you get good stuff. There's Exotic (binds to character mostly, very strong stats), Ascended (Mostly bound to Account as I recall, a step up from Exotic but it's *minor*) and then Epic (or is it legendary, I forget the name) that is teh same stats as Ascended, but you can freely re-arrange the stats from one spread to another as you need. So power creep there, especially from stats, is just... not a thing. It's very much a case of more options and more ability to specialise or do something new with your spec.

Hey Louey, love the videos. If you need your exp earrings I think some may be retrieved from /reclaim. I know for sure the latest 'fleet merchant' earring can, I did it yesterday

@@Louey7 yeah i deleted XP jewellery on alts and then wanting them back when they changed them to level cap - tried to reclaim but no joy - seems they were in the bundles which cannot be reclaimed. I even tried to get a GM to restore them but no joy!

GW2 doesnt increase stats in new expansions. They have the same stat numbers across all endgame gear but they come out with different affixes that distribute those stats to allow different builds.

So I am new to LOTRO and have been trying to figure out if instances are playable solo but did not try. Can you do a video about what a new player can expect for each instance as solo or a small group? I have yet to find a full 6 man group for any dungeon as I am going.

2 things to understand about Guild Wars 2. 1. When you enter an area in the game, you are leveled down (if higher level) to the range for that area. The advantage is access to powers and utility but you don't necessarily one shot everything even in starter zones. 2. When you reach level 80 (lvl cap) the horizontal progression is in access to sub classes and Stat gear. Exp gained after cap is put into skill trees that typically open up new utility rather than higher stats or powers. Fast travel and mounts are gated behind these trees. I think GW2 does horizontal progression quite well but that's my humble opinion.

ive been trying to get into the game and have like 4 mid lvl 20s now, captain reads good doesnt feel that good at least early early im assuming it gets better, but I cannot get over having a homeless man running around with you, I just cant continue with him lmao it completely throws me off..

You can get different skins for your Herald/Archer. Ive got an oath-breaker Archer. Makes it feel much more useful

Love you content but wish you would pay more attention to your audio quality. you have a very sharp and high voice and a lot of mouth noises. The first can be fixed with some EQ, the second with mic positioning and training. keep it up.
