@@RevMonkey My friend, the goal is to never sell it! ... but I _have_ thought about it since I rarely get a chance to drive these days. I've had it out for a proper drive only once (recently) since the pandemic, as my priorities have shifted and my time is extremely limited. I used to take 6-8 hours to drive it up to the nearby mountain roads on weekends. All it took though was that recent drive, and I said to myself "I could never sell this." It's sooo good. Mine has quite a bit of modification from stock though, including a polished and ported custom head, stronger valves and pistons, larger injectors, as well as the supercharger, fans, intake, and Larini exhaust system (with decat). Mine is a more rare Sport Elise that already has some track appointments, including the very excellent Ohlins suspension. My car doesn't sound like the V6/V12 sound as yours does, but more like a demonic scream somewhere between a formula one car and a sport bike. It's hard to describe, but it's definitely intoxicating at those high RPMs, as well as the deeper beautiful pops and burbles on decel. The one and only time I had it on the track I had several people approach me and compliment me on how great the car sounds around the track. No... I cant sell this thing. Ever! I just need more time to get it out!!

@@RevMonkey absolutely agree. In my opinion most newer performance cars are plenty fast for 90% of people on the road but they have all dropped the ball when it comes to the actual auditory experience. It is a close call as to the best V6 in production. The contenders are mostly the Emira, Jag, Alfa Quadrifoglio and MC20. I love the F-Type but perhaps too many pops for others as this has been ruined by boy racers in their Golfs and RS cars. Happy to do a sound off if you are near Surrey! Lotus have reduced the rev limit in the Emira by 500 rpm, it has taken the character out of the exhaust sound! They have also changed the fuelling map on the new car so it does not run so rich on tickover! The stainless steel sports exhaust in the Evora GT410 Sport was absolutely insane at 7100 rpm, deeper, fuller, richer than the raspy titanium version on GT430. The overall experience was more ferral at the top end!
@RevMonkey5 ай бұрын
That fear of them dropping the rev limiter proved to be unfounded. I very rarely hit 6800rpm as one doesn't need to. However, it did take the Larini system to give it that ferral sound you refer to. Standard it still sounds good but not as god as the cars you mention. Still, at the end of day, for rawness it is still Elise > Exige > Evora > Emira but some models do excel. I don't fancy an Evora but an Exige or S1 Elise appeals.

@@RevMonkey The Emira is a beautiful car with a fantastic value for money. The whistling I mentioned, I hope it's not of major importance, as it's common for all newly produced cars to suffer from small defects that engineers eventually eliminate over time. Personally, I haven't tried the car yet, but as I mentioned before, I have the feeling that the gearshift bearings or maybe the differential are very tightly packed. @@RevMonkey Im very much inclined to agree! Engines only sound as good as their intakes and exhausts allow them to be. The more modern the car, the more potentially sanitised the intake and exhaust due to noise and pollution requirements. I remember many yrs ago two of my old cars an Alfa 3.0 GTV V6 and my Fiat Bravo HGT.... i had two Alfas and the 2nd one was a later model with revised fuel inj and manifolds with cats to meet regs and it just didnt sound as sweet. The Bravo was an NA 5cyl and again the 1st run of models sounded more rorty than the 2nd which had VVT and more stringent exhaust/injection. Ive just remembered too that even the Nissan 350Z i had after the Alfas had the similar issue the cars were developed and made better/more powerful over 3x life cycles, but that the first one still sounded the sweetest!

Do you lose warranty when swapping the exhaust?
@RevMonkey11 ай бұрын
Well, technically, yes but there is counter arguments IF the warranty work is reasonably NOT a factor of the exhaust work. You could say the same for any slight modification really but an exhaust is quite a change. Only an engine remap is worse in terms of warranty breaking. Ironically, one could argue the exhaust change is better for the engine as hot gasses pass out quicker.
@tillyfoxtrotter10 ай бұрын
Yes you do. Lotus will delight in telling you how you invalidated the warranty. The dear old Rev' here is behaving like a teenager - I guess its his age.

Are Larini claiming a power increase as well? I had a dealer in the US tell me that a third cat delete would add 30hp….

@RevMonkey7 ай бұрын
Sports. There is not too much in it but, being a sports car, it seemed madness not to go for Sports! It is a little bit more crunchy over potholes and speed bumps but the pay-off on track, around fast bends and general fast street driving it is better.

@@RevMonkey thanks! I remember Misha saying that touring was a bit soft for the track , I just wasn’t sure how that translated to the road. If you’re buying a sports car, it makes sense to go all out I suppose.

You hear about 20% more of everything and a loit more than that at full chat, especially with the windows down. None of the original character is lost, just improved! In the standard car, I always thought the car sounded best with the windows UP, as you hear those 3 nuances that I talk about (ruined by wind noise with the windows open) but with the Larini exhaust it is such a big difference I can leave the windows open and absolutely love it.

You either replace the system temporarily (I have the original) down your local exhaust fitter or use an emmission 'friendly' MOT station. This is something I will need to worry about in 2 years time as I have had the car for 15 months now.

@@RevMonkey They also had orders cancelled by people who had paid deposits and were promised their price was locked in. Some of those people will never consider buying a Lotus ever again, yet the cost of the interest free scheme suggests Lotus could have kept to their word.
