Lotus Europa Powered by Cosworth FVA (1)

We were one of the 1st to put an FVA Cosworth in our ex Gold Leaf Team Lotus 47 in the winter of 1969 which was run under the Mike Spence Racing banner in 1970. Bought the engine from Frank Williams after it was used in Formula 2. The 47 was a brilliant car and won many races in 1970 driven by Rex Bates. The brakes were a bit marginal with the extra power of the FVA, so we managed to obtain some March F2 front brakes which cured our problems. Happy memories - Dave Hunter

I've owned both a Type 47 and a WW II radial engine plane, still have the latter- and it's hard to tell which sounds more lovely!

Great car. You obviously talk a lot about the great motor, but I see you also did quite the Type 47 treatment with suspension and Hewland gearbox, and I'm sure more too that can see from the video. My brother built up a Type 65 S2 US Federal spec car into a track car, optimizing the original suspension and cherry picking the best from Renault. That engine dynoes at just under 200hp. It's a very quick car. Can't imagine what yours is like.

I agree, I prefer a standard Europa S2 that you can take for a visit to the shops or on a fast drive. Not many type 54^'s ( Europa S2) left in UK right now.
