I have sprouting sunflowers unexpectedly, so now I'm searching them up! I had a planter on my patio, and apparently some of the sunflower seeds from my bird feeder fell into it. That's good. I hate it when I have setbacks like that. This autumn some lawn mowers came into my backyard where my garden was. My father told them I had a garden there and to be careful. I went outside 2 hrs later... WHOLE GARDEN GONE! They ran my cucumbers over my potatoes everything!

@@TitiDianapetsitter I started mine late in the year. The flower heads are just starting to open. I have them in big pots on the deck. I'm about to transplant them outside and see how they take off before it gets too cold. I will plant the other seeds in the ground spring. I see folks grilling and baking the heads. They say it tastes much like corn on the cob and under the tender seeds is like an artichoke heart. I want to try. Can't find anyone who sells fresh young heads online for consumption... only for crafts. God bless! 😊

We put some wildbird seed out for dozens of birds who visit our yard each day. A few weeks ago a single sunflower plant started to grow. Now it has 5 or 6 lovely flowers on it. once a week sunflower can stand heat to a certain temperature any hotter and they will sunburn and die. if you go online they tell you at least 6 hours of sunlight and then they can be brought in to avoid over exposure to heat.

actually, I'm pretty sure its when a seed is exposed to the proper conditions, such as optimum temperature, water and oxygen, are taken in through the seed coat. As a result, the embryo's cells start to enlarge which causes the plant to grow.
